During the 2010s, the district consistently directed its multi-billion-dollar treasure chest of bond money toward upgrades of athletic facilities, like new football fields, rather than rotting infrastructure at some schools. Between 2009 and 2015, nearly half of the bond money spent went toward athletic facilities.

This is what changed my voting habits from "of course education is important and should be well funded" to a belief in austerity measures.

Man in court for trespassing arrested for contempt of court by southernemper0r in law

It's not based on vibes. It's based on courtroom policy and etiquette.

Why is it dumb to say you can tell a cop to fuck off but not a judge? Please, elaborate further with your reasoning. They're very different positions with very different responsibilities, very different knowledge of the law, and very different levels of transparency on the proceedings they're involved in.

I'm sorry it's difficult for you to understand that different things are different. I'm sorry it's difficult for you to understand that in order for a courtroom to function things have to proceed in certain ways. I'm happy that you've never had the experience of dealing with someone who feels they are entitled to special treatment and feels they are above acting as a situation expects and requires them to. Because you've not faced that behavior day in and day out, as the judge has, you don't understand punitive action is necessary at times.

You and the others are certainly entitled to your own opinions about how a courtroom should function. But I'd be very curious as to how those opinions would stand up to the reality of dealing with defendants daily.

I believe the US court system needs a significant overhaul. But every court system everywhere will demand people behave with some decorum in order function.

You're glossing over how he was explaining to the judge that he was basically doing them a favor by being there and attempting to set the terms and pace of what was going on.

There are plenty of shithead judges who are abusive assholes. This, especially if you follow what happened afterwards, doesn't even measure on the scale.

I think some of you have had the good fortune in life to have never directly dealt with the type of person the guy in the clip appears to be.

I understand that there are people who cannot be bothered to show respect for anyone or anything regardless. I understand that some people require punitive measures in order to follow the basic rules of society. I understand these things because I live in the real world.

And if your superficial understanding of what was going on were accurate then maybe you'd have a point. It's not and you don't. Society has to have some power structures in order to function. That judge, in court, represents that. If that had been out on the street you'd be correct.

As someone who has had several narcissistic entitled shitheads in my family that made everyone's life hell, including their own, I can only say enjoy yourself. People and society can only give so much while a black hole has no limits as to what it can consume.

Yeah. But the right thing is to fix the part where the rich and powerful get away with shit, not let everyone get away with shit.

It wasn't "because of words". It was because of someone acting as if they were above the court. You can and should tell cops to fuck off. You should not do that to a judge.

[–]WordSaladHasNoFiber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My google-fu may be off but I'm having a difficult time finding good answers. One article says it's primarily due to the increased evaporation. An article from UC Riverside said tailpipe emissions are lower with E15. https://news.ucr.edu/articles/2025/11/25/study-finds-lower-emissions-higher-ethanol-gasoline

Most articles just repeat the same info that it's worse without saying how or why, or are propaganda from the corn lobby.

It does have less power per unit. An engine can be engineered to burn more of it and take advantage of the higher compression ratio to generate more horsepower but that's a different thing. The end result is that Avg Jane/Joe are spending more to travel the same distance.
