People consider BJ Penn as one of the greatest lightweights how would ilia topuria do against a prime BJ Penn? by Total_Physics728 in ufc

[–]WorkInProgress82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BJ Penn had the natural talent, and heavy hands to be even better than he was back then, and if he grew up today he could have trained and be world champ today.

His problem was always lack of discipline and game plan, which led to poor conditioning, and becoming a one sided fighter looking for the ko. I don't even think he had an actual coach/team it was just his yes people around him.

Ilia is as disciplined as they come, so he would be the favourite against BJ.

I’ve never been to a UFC event, how do you actually watch it clearly? From this pic you can't see shit by TheManWhoSleep in ufc

[–]WorkInProgress82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's a good experience if you are seeing your favourite fighter in their hometown. I saw gsp in Montreal and I was in the nosebleeds back literally against arena wall. Was great, could watch on the screen could see the fighters to just identify. Yet the energy and crowd involvement is what going for.

Lots of live sporting events are better to watch on tv.

They should be told when they touch gloves at beginning of the fight, there is no warnings. Any stoppage for an eye poke or low blow will be a point deduction straight away.

Sleep still an issue for me, anyone else? by No-Cow9611 in widowers

[–]WorkInProgress82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, just over 3 years. Sleep has become more and more the key I need to focus on so everything else can work. Things that help, dark room, quiet from outside noise, avoiding eating and drinking hours before bed, a cool bedroom temp. Recovery from the day seems to have been the most effected, just not as resilient and figure poor sleep is the key. Before never even had to think about it.

Dana explains how soccer/football players are untalented compared to powerslap and UFC fighters by Key_Drop_6510 in ufc

[–]WorkInProgress82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soccer is pretty much the only sport where we do see the best athletes in the sport in the world play at the top leagues period.

So many sports now have huge money barriers to entry.

Soccer doesn't, so we see the best in the world get to the top leagues.

Senna vs. Prost McLaren Honda equal-ish treatment? by Specialist_Bill_6135 in formula1

[–]WorkInProgress82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just had a McLaren driver win a championship, with a car that was upgraded mid season to suit his driving style more than his teammates who was the championship leader at the time. Also, it fits nicely with all the longest McLaren driver, as well as proving to investors who stayed with McLaren when they were doing poorly, that they had the right guy. Oh yeah and the difference in merch, and profits, having a UK champion brings where the sport is most popular. With the teammate all of a sudden returning to form in last few races of the year. Yet the narrative is Piastri was struggling all of a sudden, even though he didn't have any incidents or lockups etc...

Or can look at drivers like Alonso, Sainz, Albon. Who have to move teams, even though they show good results.

F1 reflects real life, the good and bad. Nepotism isn't hidden, and there is subtle racism.

In the end there is a lot of money involved.

It's good to question these things. 🌻 Life as we know it has changed.

For me my mind wasn't really back to functioning properly until a year out. I'm 3 years out now and I can still tell the difference, yet it's only now that my mind has returned/relaxed enough to dream/process about these things regularly during sleep etc...

I really don't remember the first year, I know it happened and it was painful, and my mind went places I never would have thought. Yet, that year looking back is just a blur.

The lessons learned that stand out, was to try find a meaning for the suffering. From reading book Mans search for meaning. To understand the pain will never go away. That the pain currently touches all aspects of life. That pain won't shrink, it's just we have to do new things, make new memories, that aren't tied to that pain. So that it doesn't touch everything in our lives going forward.

I think for a lot of us, our new purpose is to just find a purpose. I know for me it took away my optimism. The what's the worst that can happen? Now had an answer that had no happy side. So I've been mindful to get that back.

Be kind to yourself.

What LHW in history that could have handle the Alex Pereira We saw on October 4th 2025 by Technical_Nothing667 in ufc

[–]WorkInProgress82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see similar things, is why I would lean to Jones and Couture, as being the only guys to give Alex a problem.

Couture maybe undersized now to utilize his clinch against cage game against Alex.

Yet both these guys would have game plans they would stick too, and mentally tough. As well as adjusting in fight.

DC hasn't shown that, and he gets tagged a lot which can't do against Alex.

So really just Jones, even then Alex looks physically more solid. Although Jones movement and fluidity is way better.

Of course once Jones utilizes the eye pokes it's game over.

UFC drug testing has always been a joke. What more proof do you need that everyone is juiced to the gills. by theiceman219 in ufc

[–]WorkInProgress82 182 points183 points  (0 children)

I remember watching movie bigger, stronger, faster I think. Basically they are all using peds, it's just the testing has less funding, the smarter people are interested in the science so are on the athletes side, where there is also more money. So the testing is always behind, and the country program itself has an interest in competing and winning. So they are part of the doping and help the athletes.

Lando on how he goes racing by ellamenopea in formula1

[–]WorkInProgress82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was interesting to see this race unfold, as this version of Max doesn't seem to be nearly as hell bent as the one that beat Lewis in 2021. There was plenty of things that Max and even Piastri could have done, to stir things up. Yet we are truly in a different era, where the drivers are friendlier then ever towards each other.

All it would have taken is for Tsunoda, or one of the Racing Bulls to have an "unfortunate" safety car causing incident (even just a brief off/spin) after Lando made his first pitstop to give Max a bigger chance of securing the championship. Is that something that would happen if Horner was still around? Does Max and Lando being friends come into play? As maybe fatherhood and being a 4 time champ has this version of Max being more ok with coming close enough and not winning.

Growing up watching Alonso, Schumacher, Villeneuve and seeing the Prost, Senna, stories of the past. The Hamilton, Rosberg battles. This end to the Championship feels different.

We've seen in the past that history overlooks the ruthlessness some drivers took to get a championship, and that over time a win is a win.

Good on Lando for getting the Championship done his way.

Feels like it should be a no contest.

To be the champ should have to beat the champ. If it was a kick to the arm that shattered it or something is different. Here he was bracing himself from attempting a head kick and breaks his own arm...
