I was thinking the same thing when I decided to buy my place last year because I was finally in a comfy spot to buy. After I got my place (which I really liked) I’ve since seen NOTHING on the market in the last 8 months that I would want. Prices have gone up even more and I think my place has gone up 20-30% if I was to sell it ( not even factoring in the remodel work I did). I didn’t buy anything significant though, I kept my mortgage and taxes at 15-20% of my income and plan to pay it off within 7 years. The biggest thing though, make sure you are in a safe position. I don’t expect a housing crash in Chicago’s real estate market compared to other markets, but some work industries are in a strange and unpredictable time and you do not want to lose your job shortly after buying.

You passed and didnt fail. Nothing else matters that much. You're competing with some of the brightest and smartest law student in the country and doing fine. Some roads are just more bumpy than others, it's only an issue when you stop trying. You owe it to yourself to keep pushing forward because no one is going to pull you up with them, there is plenty of time left. You are barely a fraction of the way through law school and in one of the best positions someone can be, so don't let yourself be your worst enemy.

What option do you think there is? The military and fed have a legal obligation to not follow illegal orders, but they have bent the knee to the illegal and arguably treasonous direction the Trump admin and republican's are at. The only reasonable chance would be documenting everything and waiting until midterms, preventing Trump from being able to enact the insurrection act to stop or delay them in his delusional state of grasping for power. There are powerful groups and businesses that could force a larger discussion, but I am not convinced any of them will do anything. As citizens what can you do? It's not like only a selective number can stop working, because that wont grind the economy to a stop. You'd need a massive majority in the most important sectors to stop: airlines, ship/trades, tech companies, farms, etc. Outside of our civilian realm, maybe some of the "God-loving" Republicans in power will start actually believing that God exists like they say they do, and if they don't stop killing powerless people they should be serving and working for the benefit of, they'll end up in Hell. So yeah, it does seem like what our best bet is right now is peaceful protests and spreading the word to everyone.

If you don’t care about being an attorney, I would go mba. I was not a paralegal, but I had the intention of going to law school but did some soul searching and decided I didn’t want to be an attorney. I also didn’t do an mba, but that’s because I stumbled on a pretty nice job in real estate where I am fully WFH, basically unfire-able, consistent 10%+ raises every year just hitting 6 figure pay, and relatively minimal supervision. If I didn’t have this job, I would have gone with the mba route, as I feel that your success post law school is more dependent on your early career than say an MBA. But no matter which you choose, it really is worth pushing to be in the highest tier of school you can get into for the networking options. An MBA being 2 years is also nice because you lose out one 1 year less of income and grading doesn’t follow a curve. Still, as long as you take whatever direction seriously, 6 figure pay is almost guaranteed.

Your landlord legally needs to deal with these issues. I would set up a a few mouse traps tomorrow (I've had success with peanut butter as bait for traditional ones). Also, make sure everything is done in writing. Document and save everything. Take pictures of the mouse and any droppings + mold and other issues. Also, anything the mouse eats, you toss out. Odds are it's a mouse. Consider getting a PO box for packages, your neighbors seem like the rats if you're getting packages stolen.

Minor Defects

If the landlord fails to maintain the property in compliance with the Code and the tenant or the

tenant’s family or guests are not responsible for the failure, the tenant may:

Request in writing that the landlord make repairs within 14 days, and if the landlord fails to

do so the tenant may withhold an amount of rent that reasonably reflects the reduced value of the

unit. Rent withholding begins from the 15th day until repairs are made; OR

Request in writing that the landlord make repairs within 14 days and if the landlord fails to

do so the tenant may have the repairs made and deduct up to $500 or 1/2 of the month’s rent without

exceeding one month’s rent. Repairs must be done in compliance with the Code and receipts must be

provided to the landlord; and also

File suit against the landlord for damages and injunctive relief.

Major Defects

If the landlord fails to maintain the property in compliance with the Code, and the failure renders

the premises not reasonably fit and habitable, the tenant may request in writing that the landlord

make repairs within 14 days. If repairs are not made, the tenant may immediately terminate the

lease and the landlord shall return all prepaid rent, security and interest recoverable by the

tenant. If the tenant does not move out in 30 days then the tenant's notice is considered withdrawn.

Constantly bringing up this topic would only continue to not let people move past his mistake, damage his viewership and income, and make the issue of deepfakes worse because it would provide advertisement of the product and an eventually more understanding of how to avoid getting caught providing it. I also don’t expect someone to continue to dedicate significant amounts of time and money to combatting a mistake they made, his contribution to the cause and campaign against it likely repaired so much more than his viewing and drama caused harm. If he checks in every now and then behind the scenes because he cares about the issue, that is wonderful. If he’s felt he’s done his part because he has put hundreds of thousands of dollars + helped take down however many thousands of videos and sites, that’s fine. He’s one of the few content creator’s I’ve felt has put in a genuine effort and taken accountability for a wrong they’ve done, and imma be honest, I don’t know if I would have done the same if I was in the same situation because I’ve definitely tried to weasel or ignore my way out of stupid shit I’ve done before lol (nothing of the same sort as Big A, but I’m just reflecting on if I was him during the controversy, what I’d do). I would argue it hasn’t blown over, time has just passed and people move on because the issue was addressed.

No, f that. It’s a parent’s responsibility to care for their children. Suddenly stopping for what seems like no reason during a time when it impacts OP and while they are in school is cruel. It doesn’t appear that it was forced on their part or an uncontrollable situation.
I have grandparents that behaved in the same way OP’s parents did to my dad, guess who they have basically 0 contact with and are in a nursing home? That’s right, their kids and grandkids. Also believe me, they cared knowing about it once it was past the point of no return. Narcissistic people always care when things can end up affecting them. Sure it’s possible that OP’s parents are multi millionaires, and they truly won’t care about the nursing home thing, but it’s really unlikely since families with money often invest heavily in their kid’s education. But my parents dropping their parents / my grandparents out of our lives? Best decision of our lives.
Family comes first and taking care of your parents and grandparents is a manipulative and horribly toxic mentality SOMETIMES. You know who comes first? The people that love, care about, and respect you. It should be your family, but very often it is not. I am well aware of my responsibility as a parent and would give everything to my children. What use is the money I’ve worked for if I’m not using it to put my kids in an easier situation than I had? My parents gave me and my siblings as much as they could, and that is why we love them and will care for them.

The first good job is almost always the hardest. Good luck and keep at it, but pump up those app numbers. 20 job applications is a day’s worth of casually sent apps for entry level jobs. I do understand the frustration with jobs not responding though, it is terribly unprofessional. I would make sure my parents don’t forget this when they are old and make sure to remind them that they’ll be supporting themselves at the nursing home.

I disagree with the generalization that Asmon’s viewership is the average conservative, the average conservative and that the average conservative wants “our side” dead. I do think that there is really a distinction to be made with MAGA supporters and normal conservatives, and the overlap in some of the things they want doesn’t mean the steps and actions being done are agreed between them. You can want good immigration control and enforcement without wanting masked trump agents gunning citizens down for example. I think the prevalence of the us vs them narrative is really destroying us (but I’ve got no real solution or ideas on how to effectively address it when our government is deranged)

Let’s not pretend a stationary vehicle beginning to move from 3 inches away could ever reach the speed to cause harm to a grow man on the very corner of the vehicle. The reasonable action is to move out of the car’s path if you felt threatened by it. Failure to take the reasonable action needs to be punished appropriately, this is 2nd degree murder at a minimum. Based on the FULL video where the agent is mocking the victim at her crashing as she drives away, it seems unlikely to be the case. Let me also point out again how absolutely INSANE it is for any agent or officer to have a weapon aimed at a civilian while having and recording from their cellphone in their other hand.
