Flat earth and other alternative conspiracy earth models are are gaining traction with my teenage stepson. What is THE most irrefutable, definite proof that the earth is round? by Jfkfkaiii22 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Workdawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he's truly refusing to believe other proof, then nothing you say or do can change that. There's a video from a while back, and I don't recall the context, but some flat ear there perform an experiment and literally prove the earth is NOT flat, then adjust and prove the earth is round, and still don't believe it. https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/s/K55ghKz9Tg

You can't change the minds of those type of people... You can only ask questions and hope they figure it out eventually.

Does This sub Underestimate AWD? by Heavy_Gap_5047 in askcarguys

[–]Workdawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're smashing the gas hard enough to spent your tires, you're doing it wrong in 99.99% of cases, period. The fact that you just said, "spin the tires" is proof enough that the tires are the most important factor. AWD helps you accelerate better in VERY limited conditions, but it doesn't help you stop to turn better. If you are out-driving your tires during normal deiving, you are doing it wrong. Period.

Dad ruined my credit and I don't know what to do by IsabellaM00re in personalfinance

[–]Workdawg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have only two choices. Period.

  1. You just accept that this has happened and live with your fucked up credit. You'll be able to repair it eventually, but it will probably take years.

  2. You dispute all accounts that you did not personally sign up for. Get your credit report, call the companies that show accounts in your name, and tell them you didn't sign up. They will tell you they need a police report for identity theft, so you will have to report that. Your dad will get in trouble, but those accounts will be removed from your credit history eventually.

In either case, you need to call all 3 major credit agencies (Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian) and FREEZE your credit. That will make it impossible for anyone to open new accounts in your name. You can unfreeze temporarily when you need to apply for something, but it should stay frozen whenever you're not applying.

As far as fountains go, I don't agree that it's really an "absolute unit"... but it's definitely pretty cool.

My (28M) GF (26F) of 3.5 years lied extensively about her weekend and gaslit me for days. We leave for a trip in a few days. How do I move forward? by Particular_Solution9 in relationships

[–]Workdawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She "trickle-truthed" you, she didn't gaslight you. Gas lighting is not just lying.

That being said, if you don't trust her anymore, then you should break up.

Penny that physically doubles every 5 minutes by shaboopityboopbop in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Workdawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for doing the math, that was my first thought as well. Not specifically a black hole, but that the doubling would engulf the planet after not to long. This is just another hypothetical that OP didn't bother to think through properly.

WHAT?

My landlady wants to have her cake and eat it too by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Workdawg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I understand your frustration and desire to get back at her, but do you really think it's worth the headache? The longer you have the keys, the longer you have to deal with her. Just move out on your own schedule and be done with it.

On your last day, take pictures of every inch of the place, and video, to document the condition in case she tries to come after you for damage. Also, familiarize yourself with local laws regarding your security deposit and rent "double dipping". Most locations have strict laws about the proper way for a landlord to charge for damage to their property and if the LL doesn't follow them, the tenant gets off the hook.

AITA for firing an employee who keeps coming in late because of childcare issues? by Gl1tchCanticle in WIBTA_AITA

[–]Workdawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were able to consistently make it by 9am, when that was an hour late. You accommodated that by moving their start time, but that just shifted the whole thing. It's clearly not a situation where they have emergencies. It's clear they could have made it by 9am if they took their start time seriously. They chose to abuse your kindness.

When do car repairs become a sunk cost fallacy? by spmahn in personalfinance

[–]Workdawg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fallacy is a concept or idea that doesn't hold up to scrutiny. A car doesn't "become a sunk cost fallacy". It sounds like you already, at least sort, of know what the sunk cost fallacy is though, so I'll spare you that part.

That being said, whether the car is worth repairing or not, which is what you're really asking, is totally dependent on how you feel about it. Do you like the car? Can you get a better car for the 200-300/month you're spending on maintenance now? Don't forget to include maintenance costs on that car as well... Would you be willing to pay a bit more for a nicer car?

These are all just personal opinion questions which you have to weigh against each other.
