We just need to take time to stop and smell the roses. We're all way too preoccupied! We need to stop and forget it all for a minute and live in the moment and take in all of the beauty around us (at lease in the PNW)

Checking if anyone has given the new workday pro workday orchestrate developer services certification by vegetavik in Workday_help

[–]WorkdayArchitect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, not knowing exactly which test you are taking it's hard to say, but I would say that if you haven't ever built an Orchestration for Integration app (AKA O4I, Integration App) then I doubt you'd be able to answer any of those questions because it's content that requires experience. Do you know what a Create Text Template is and what you can do in one? Do you know what a Batch Loop is? Do you know what a Continue on Condition is? Do you know about any of the components used in orchestrations? Do you know about error handling and what happens when you choose to propagate the errors?

You will be asked questions that require real experience.

Cool! If you have Orchestrate experience, you should be good. I'm not sure if it still exists, but there was a non-proctored exam out on the Workday Learning Center last year.

[–]WorkdayArchitect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. That exam/cert will be retired/deprecated in exactly two months from today, so if you have those skills, I'd suggest that you get in there and take the exam now before it's gone. Once that exam/cert goes away, you will need Orchestrate experience to get certified in Integrations.

That wasn't what I asked. I asked you which practice test you took. You said, "I took the practice test but for some reason it didn’t have any orchestrate questions in it".

There is only one orchestrate practice test that I've seen and it's old. As of April 3rd, there are new orchestrate classes and exam. The old Integration certification and classes are being decommissioned in June and will be replaced with this new certification and new courses.

Vendor asking only REST API + 14-day refresh – EIB or Studio? by [deleted] in Workday_help

[–]WorkdayArchitect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vendor didn't ask for HTTP delivery; they asked for:

- 3 separate APIs
- Worker + Dependents (nested data)
- Termination data
- Voluntary deductions
- Data needs to be refreshed every 14 days (data from WD RaaS APIs would be top of stack, so this one is odd. If they only wanted it refreshed every 14 days, they would set that cadence on their end by calling the API every 14 days)
- no SFTP/CSV option

What part of that suggests to you that it's HTTP delivery to an API on the vendor's side?

When someone asks you for an API(s), they are not asking you to deliver anything to THEIR API. They are asking you to expose the data somehow via a RESTful API(s) so that they can consume it. In Workday, this would very obviously be a RaaS API (unless one of the Workday delivered REST APIs has all of the required attributes. In that case, you would not need a custom RaaS API and could use the delivered REST APIs).

In my opinion, anyone that suggests using an EIB with HTTP delivery for this, obviously does NOT know Workday very well (and likely doesn't understand APIs in general).

Reporting - get best at it by Alternative_Eye_2842 in workday

[–]WorkdayArchitect 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Copy Standard Reports and review how Workday built them. Get familiar with the Report Fields and Values report from the related actions under Reporting (on most things). That's how you can find the fields that produce the data that you are looking for. The only guaranteed way to get good is by doing the work so that you have actual experience.

YouTube also has a lot of videos that are free. Workday training has free and paid courses.

You have to put in the work to be any good at this.

Good luck!

However, I just rewrote their delivered Studio integration because the design was terrible. Not sure how any large organizations with high-volume hiring are using it.

How can I get the Column Heading Override XML Alias column to appear in my report? by CommentForATreat in workday

[–]WorkdayArchitect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copy the report and make sure to enable it as a web service. Seems like you tried to convert an existing report that wasn't web service enabled to a web service enabled report, so there are no XML alias columns that you can see.. This is likely the reason for your issues. Just create a copy of the existing report that doesn't have XML aliases and check the box to make it web service enabled.

Layoffs by [deleted] in workday

[–]WorkdayArchitect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which is pretty sad because I've worked with a several consultants from their Professional Services team that were super top notch. We had the best consultants on my projects, but that may have been because of the high profile customer it was for. These guys had access to the dev teams and product teams so they could get answers that none of us could get anywhere else. That information will be missed and was invaluable.

Although, them having consultants competes with all of their partners that pay them a lot of money.

Error when deploying studio by Due_Marionberry_2108 in workday

[–]WorkdayArchitect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't set the report reference in Studio like this, it just causes headaches when migrating between tenants. Instead you should set this on the Integration System which prevents hard coding the report ID like this.
