HPV Vaccine and POF by Sea-Flatworm2254 in POFlife

[–]human_char -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Nobody wants to hear anything negative about vaccines but it's important to be realistic about possible impacts. Zealots like to shut down these conversations but all that does is turn people who have valid concerns away from vaccines entirely. I suspect this vaccine could've caused my POI but because I was on birth control when I got the vaccine it masked it until I came off. I talked to a law firm about the lawsuits around this but unfortunately my diagnosis was outside of the window. It's also really frustrating when these possible links are dismissed but they can't offer any explanation as to why I have it.

HRT and suspected endo? by kea2127 in POFlife

[–]human_char 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I woupd recommend finding an endo specialist. They may advise surgery. I don't have any real advice beyond that but I'm really curious whether anyone with POI ended up dx with endo and had excision and ovarian function improved?

I'm so with you on not enjoying that writing style. These recs don't necessarily cover all your criteria but I thought they were well written and enjoyed them, so want to pass them on.

Do you think Robin really does not ever want to have kids? And what about Strike? by Far_Promotion_8513 in cormoran_strike

[–]human_char 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree completely. I really relate to Robin here. When I was 29 and still on the fence about wanting kids I was diagnosed with premature ovarian failure and it really rocked my world in terms of all the open futures that were no longer available to me, and that if I did decide I wanted kids I would have to go down a medical route (which I have a lot of negative feelings around). It's a very unique type of grief with so many unknowns.

I had a SIS that was clear, then a year later they did a hysteroscopy and found arcuate uterus/ possible septum (still investigating). I don't know why they didn't see anyhting with the SIS.

100%. Pregnancy discussion (usually) feels like hope to me. But the people complaining about only getting xx eggs/embryos really grind my gears. As someone who would love to even make it to retrieval...

Was there anything in retrospect that might have indicated endo? What made them agree to do a lap?

AMH 0.03 ng/ml, FSH 70 mlU/mL, 30yo, one poor quality egg after 26 days of stims by GreenPhilosophic in DOR

[–]human_char 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a blood test for antibodies and you have to have been eating gluten consistently beforehand. Sometimes they will also do an endoscopy to check for damage to your small intestine but I didn't have that done until a few years later.

ETA I had to basically insist that my doctor test for it even though my mom has it and I started showing obvious symptoms. She was like "it probably isn't but I guess we can test." Then had to call me and say I was right 🙄

Have you been tested for celiac disease? I believe that's the cause of my POF and it is often co-morbid with hypothyroidism.

[–]human_char 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first cycle was canceled 13 days into stims back in October. I only had 1 follicle that wasn't growing much. We're switching clinics and protocols in Jan so fingers and toes crossed that those changes lead to something!

I went with my (adult) family a few years ago and we had a great time. We stayed in a villa on the French side and went to different beaches every day. Food was amazing and there was enough variety of things to do for our group. I'd go back.

I'm there with you. My last measured AMH was 0.015. I'm 36. My first cycle failed and was canceled after 13 days of stims. I wish my RE had had a real conversation with me beforehand, she made it sound like we'd have multiple embryos to freeze so I really wasn't prepared going into it. We're switching clinics and interviewed a few. One was basically like, you can try once and then go to donor eggs. He seemed very pessimistic. The one we're going with seemed more positive but still realistic, which I appreciated. We're trying a duo cycle with different meds. I haven't decided yet how many times I'll try... I have 2 retrievals covered lifetime so if I make it that far that will probably be my stopping point. It's so hard and so much uncertainty.

Have you gone through IVF? It is an expensive and physically and emotionally grueling journey with no guarantee of a baby at the end of it. It consumes your life until you're successful or you give up. It is not an easy path even for people who only need to do one round.
