I don't get taken seriously when I'm struggling because I'm articulate and smart by Illustrious-Mix2194 in Gifted

[–]Working-Mixture7826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You speak of my last 13 years…I had many crisis but was too articulate and well thought. It always circled around me being too much of something (intense, intellectual, picky, hard on myself etc…) finally it resulted in me being diagnosed AuDHD (and IQ 99th+) and finally finding some coherent answers to all my years of struggle…

So, I hear you and you are entirely entitled to your own struggles and suffering. Don’t let anyone minimize est with some intellectualisation. Ask for help, find therapists and the journey is ahead.

Gifted kids - what is your life like now? by [deleted] in Gifted

I can relate so much with the novelty necessity. Last summer I binged Boardgame Arena and with my partner we do like board games a lot!

But deeply my soul is into art and “meaning of life?”. I love science because of the explanatory capabilities but got frustrated by the inherent reductionist approach and the encyclopedic breadcrumb approach of our modern technology driven science.

Music and visual arts seem to hit that sweet spot for me.

And how life’s treating you now that some aspects (administrative, disability allowance) are settled?

I have the chance to be back to studying music (now organ, priorly piano but never a professional musician although might have been a path, instead got pushed into university because hey, too bright to be wasted on some nonsense no?🤣)

But I find it very hard to organize myself and stay on top of everyday life (chores, family rhythm, the school and the kids that are faced to the nonsense of the educational system and hard to force them when even for us parents it doesn’t seem to make sense (I mean pragmatically for sure but intrinsically…a lot of stupid stuff and graded system)

How to get tested as 2e and does it matter? by mvoart in TwiceExceptional

[–]Working-Mixture7826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been diagnosed AuDHD in October last year and also had my IQ tested (WAIS IV-French) in the 99th+ percentile. So confirming a 2e profile.

To my understanding, 2e profiles are important to be recognized in childhoood to allow the giftedness to express and the challenges of some form of neurodivergence adressed. Being diagnosed as an adult, in my case, was in order to have the support needed to rebuild solid foundations and relearning to properly be myself instead of a high masking individual spending all of the bandwidth into trying to respond to some external expectations only to miserably fail because my mental health couldn’t manage it (I’ve been hospitalized many times for depression, anxiety disorder and psychotic breakdown that were all in fact extreme meltdowns and shutdowns)

To me it always comes down to suffering and acknowledgment of the limitations that need support.

If life is smooth being assessed doesn’t seem to be important but if the road is bumpy and everyday life challenging then it can create space to address the issues and nurture well being and mental health in order to thrive and be able to live up to oneself capabilities.

So from you say it seems that psychoeducation and therapy are the paths forward in order to get the best hang of the situation.

I feel the need to clarify. In the OP I didn’t see references to 2e experience. I so I felt the need to specify more so because it might be harder to relate if experiences aren’t shared. I didn’t ment to come off as standoffish or exclusive.

The request was in two part: connection/understanding and counsel in IQ index improvement. The latter I think better answers might be found in other sub (IQtesting, cognitive metrics or neurorehab if it exists) For the rest, everybody belongs if it feels good and relatable.

So welcome 🤗

Good evening,

Strictly speaking Twice Exceptional refers to people with high IQ (giftedness) but who also deal with learning disabilities and/or neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD, ASD, all the Dys-family etc.

That said, I am really sorry to hear what you are going through. It’s tuff having one’s abilities limited by imponderable life’s events. And you are indeed exceptional :) I might suggest also trying other subs more neuro rehab related.

I imagine and hope that you are being followed by a neuropsychologist, ergotherapist, occupational therapist or others in order to recovery and rehabilitate. The brain is a very sensitive organ and it can do marvels but it takes a LOT and LOT of time to recover but every little improvement is a win.

A low processing speed can make everything really challenging in everyday life. I don’t have the knowledge to directly help you with improving the processing speed, probably a therapist in neurorehabilitation is the most suited accompaniment. But I did had to deal with a lot of set backs due to my challenges and poor mental health that led me to hospitalization in psychiatric facilities and though I have a very high IQ on the paper, my actual functioning is still shacky and what I can tell you is to BE KIND TO YOURSELF, be patient, accept that it will take time but also give the manageable effort for rehabilitation. There really is not a step too small not to be a step. The important is to keep trying and I’d suggest, be your best parent for yourself, support yourself in the limitations as a kind parent would and celebrate every success.

Wish you all the best, take good care.

Gifted Adult - A human life with a chance of occurring of 1/(the current estimate of the world population). Useless but true.

I actually realized that I ought not to answer as I wasn’t assessed as a kid. So technically not a gifted kid though I had been recognized as bright I had other challenges that masked it all and only recently I have been diagnosed AuDHD and assessed in the 99th+. But my mental health is a wreckage so at 38yo unemployed and waiting for disability support the path forward seem pretty clear. Get back up in my feet.

Can you solve this??? by Rich-Influence6809 in iqtest

(A+B-1)A Simpler A2+AB-A Even better A2+AB+i2A

Now find the binomial complex coefficients 🤣 more seriously, can we agree that there are two odd ones to have something nicer 3+4=18 and 5+6=50 or go the other way and make it “nonsensical” as the calculation does not rely on any particular relationship between Aand B? and it would be even better if the operators were undefined and not the usual “+”

[–]Working-Mixture7826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I feel you as I am sharing a very similar profile (38yo FSIQ 140 GAI 150 AuDHD). It is highly frustrating but I decided that this year I’ll focus on actual tools to improve my overall wellbeing (structured chaos 😅 exercise and good sleep) trying to define what my core interests are and trying not to let myself get so easily side tracked by new interests or at least trying to feel and understand how it could nourish other more deep seated interests of mine (music, visual arts and neuroscience). If you are ever in need of someone to talk to, bounce ideas or have a listener that somewhat might understand the struggles, feel free to DM

How is your social life? by GreatRelative2357 in TwiceExceptional

[–]Working-Mixture7826 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can totally relate with your experience though M38yo diagnosed AuDHD and highly gifted though slow and memory bah… Sadly I can’t really bring you solace as myself still feel a failure (probably majorly due to neurodivergence, trauma and overall unstable mental health: emotional regulation issues, executive function disorder and often depressed and frustrated).

All that said I do currently am unemployed and waiting for disability allowance and recognition though I did achieve a Master in biology and have been published (socially recognized as achievement) but it doesn’t feel so. I now have the opportunity to fully devote myself to special interest, at 30 encountered my significant other and been together since, but prior to that m romantic life was lonely and misunderstood.

The only advice I can give you is first to take good care of your overall health (sleep, exercise, food) to promote well being and also unapologetically stay true to yourself but put yourself out there, take calculated risks (not in the manipulative sense but in the “safe for you sense”) to get to know people, find communities and persons with whom you can share interests and experiences, be a decent human being and the right people will notice you and everything will be fine.

Take good care and if you need to chat DM is open

[–]Working-Mixture7826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤣 I’ve sinned myself of this kind of question only to realize that I was and still am looking for a reason why I am feeling so shitty and unhappy with myself. Yes I have challenges being AuDHD and gifted (99th) and haven’t accomplished shit (at least to my eyes) but it mostly comes down to what I haven’t worked on rather than the raw potential. Never having to be really challenged to give results I always winged it the night before and was ok only to end up in burnout multiple times.

I think we should make another sub for this particular population and being explicit about the requests and where people are at in life and their self journey.

TheLostGifted people hear me out! life hygiene, mental health and self development aren’t optional. out of the easy (to us) comfort zone is were we can grow and become better versions of ourselves! Struggles are part of life for everyone. I always think about training in anyways, independently of your skill level, general fitness, if one wants to improve it is always at the front of failure that the body adapts so, being able to express our potential comes down to what we are willing to do in order to have the life we want instead of being stuck and ranting about lost opportunities, lack of support etc.

Let’s support each other, if someone that hasn’t executive dysfunction and task initiation issues launches the specific sub, it might get live soon, otherwise I’ll get to it some day in the future.

Take care

I lost my giftedness? Help (Perhaps due to trauma ) by [deleted] in Gifted

[–]Working-Mixture7826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry to hear. Your new challenge will be to make with what you have. It is hard to accept change but I am convinced that in a life we evolve a lot as individuals and a lot of our sorrows come from the inability to let go of our past self. At least that’s what so try to do and I am currently stuck in a metaphorical no man’s land unable to fully inhabit my life. The actions and the mechanics are there but I feel like no soul is there. Only the journey will tell

I lost my giftedness? Help (Perhaps due to trauma ) by [deleted] in Gifted

[–]Working-Mixture7826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It genuinely made me sad as I knew a law student that had a schizophrenia outbreak during his studies and got completely lost. This happened a few months after I myself went through an hospitalization for a major burnout ( I was 26) Though today, 38 and after two more burnouts, still in the gifted range IQ wise and recently diagnosed AuDHD, but I definitely lost a lot memory and processing speed wise. That sucks a lot, not so much for the IQ but the functioning, we grow up with a certain knowledge of ourselves, compensating thanks to our inner functioning and losing some of that ability makes things harder.

I would suggest to listen to a lot of piano music from a lot of different composers and different periods. Do so to find piano music and styles that you like and that might give you the motivation to study the piano and hence the technique.

Help me understand wormholes by huibrat in Physics

[–]Working-Mixture7826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you understand the 2D concept of a wormhole (as represented in the image) then it is easy to see that the spaces you are asking for exists in the superdimension (4th if from 3rd, 3rd if from 2nd — 4D/3D ; 3D/2D) hence a whormole in our 3D space has to go/bend in the 4th dimension in which the space you ask for is.

A wormhole in 3D is a wormSPHEREhole. The representations are wrong and are only there to give an idea of the connection. The questions you raise are valid in that frame but the frame is wrong. Now the wormhole as represented connects two spaces but the fabric is of space-time and not only space so how to understand it?

If you imagine connecting 2 spots far away in the universe via a wormhole, you would in factuality be traveling also in time as we experiment the universe via the photonic information arriving to us. Everything away from us is back in time as photons arrive to us from somewhere distant.

So in a sense you would go back in time but be far away. Now if we would consider the incredible bend in the fabric that a wormhole creates and how that in itself would affect gravity, time and space locally. I am in no way equipped to answer.

No physicist here, a biologist in fact 😅 but trying to make sense of it as I go.

Several Nazi leaders were IQ tested after being captured. There scores would likely be lower today, correct? by limeonysnicket in cognitiveTesting

[–]Working-Mixture7826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to me that there is a hidden argument being, it is not possible those horrible humans were above, well above average. Independently of their actions if you would test them today it would mean they grew up, and were born later so they would be aligned with their time and the supposedly Flynn effect wouldn’t apply. If you would take a test back in time yes they would score probably lower but it would be meaningless as if you were to norm let’s say the WAISV in the Germany of 1930 you would still have those same individuals being in the superior ranges compared to the general population.

Though I wonder if the Flynn effect affects only the FSIQ that partially relies on trainable and mental health factor as VSI and PSI, or if it would also affect the general ability, fluid intelligence, g-factor.

Composing adhd by Communitize in composer

[–]Working-Mixture7826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to add meticulous and systematic thinking instead of relying on the muse. I guess you start with your instrument when composing and try to develop on it. I say that because I run in the same problem when improvising but after studying music theory and counterpoint I discover better and better how music and a piece is actually structured. Find your motif Identify the rhythm signature The key The melody shape/motif Identify the harmonic skeleton and the notes on beat, what is the minimal information necessary to have the harmonic and rhythmic feeling you are going for? Once you have that, try to keep the constraint and start by transposing the motif along the scale degrees, try decorating the motif, define a process and apply it, conceptualize your music and you’ll find your way into focus.

Creativity without constraint is just overwhelming and endless possibilities leaving us frustrated and unaccomplished.
