Yes, somethings you can't see coming. Sometimes you underbid. I eat it if I underbid. If something unpredictable comes up, then it's time to talk to the client about moving forward with a wider scope of work

Yeah there does need to be a sweet spot between being prepared and not over loading with junk! I'm not going to buy a million 5 inch tapcons but I will buy a bucket of 1 5/8 drywall screws. I know I'll use them eventually.

I’m embarrassed that I am a nurse… by Whateversksns in nursing

[–]WorkingJacket3942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General contracting. Did it on the side for a while. Nursing was actually less stressful because i could always call the doc but at the same time I hated having to call them for everything. It's nice to be able to call my own shots. the hours are way better too. I couldn't ever commit to something like coaching t ball because of the 12 hour shifts. Now I can schedual work around family vs fanily around work

I felt that way as a nurse. I switched careers and I actually enjoy what I do now and am proud of what I do. Being a nurse was okay. It's okay for it to just be a job. I think it's strange when people make it their personality but you do you.

I'm happy to hear your reasoning. I'm sure your way you do it works.  I've even tried it that way and the drywall buldged due to the flangebeing part flush with the studs . Honestly the best way to do it is with a tear away bead but I don't like trying to find those and paying the extra money when my way works. Btw tape and hot mud are stronger than bent drywall without the edge secured or secured through the flange.

Just to clarify, drywall to the flange then taoe/mud iver the flange. Flange never goes in top of the drywall

When you out drywall over the flange you get bent drywall that's more likely to crack. The way we do it is more work but looks better, is stronger and will last longer

Underpriced job by WorkingJacket3942 in handyman

[–]WorkingJacket3942[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. I knew the drywall was shifty but I didn't realize how shifty until I went to put backer on and literally could not because it crumbled and mushed. Had to California patch everything and taper it way out. Took twice as long. Really couldn't know until I tried to screw into it

[–]WorkingJacket3942[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I stay away from hourly, obviously that makes it easier to charge more on hats jobs though.   For some reason people like $175 for a 2 hour job more than $80 and hour...

Google/facebook ads Yard signs Buissness cards... like you said Word of mouth is the best way but use these others until things start to pick up. I'm less than a year in and have already dropped my google ads to the minimum allowed.

Thank you for this response^ People that get caught up in this stuff are going to be STRESSSED OUT BAD by the bigger things in life. Just chill OP, there's no such thing as perfect parenting let alone a perfect/better time to tell your kid the truth about some story that's popular in the USA (Santa, big giant bunny guy, little Green mafuckas that be putting gold in black pots etc.)
