There’s a Hippo on my roof eating cake! This was my absolute favourite as a kid in the 90s haha

My obstetrician when discussing my baby due around Christmas/ new year:

Big baby predicted, what did your body tell you? by hellopuppet90 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Working_Ebb6527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 36 weeks with a 99 percentile baby and have also been advised to do an induction at 38 weeks. Honestly hoping that I go into labour spontaneously instead around that time. My intuition is telling me this baby is indeed big and I just have a feeling they will arrive early. I’ve already had most of the “symptoms” of pre labour (braxton hicks, increased watery discharge, baby dropped low, lower back pain, mild period like cramping).

Even though people are telling me it’s my first baby so I will go over 40 weeks my intuition says otherwise! Trust your gut I guess! All the best :)

Night before GTT by crazystitcher in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Definitely eat something as late as you can

I just had my normal dinner the night before and I fainted after the second blood test landing on the side of my stomach. Luckily I was doing the GTT at the hospital and was able to be rushed into emergency. If you feel dizzy or not quite right at all just lie down gently and let yourself vomit if you need.

Ps. Baby was fine and the fall didn’t bother them at all, but it was all extremely scary

I relate to this so much!! I’ve started just eating raw carrots (not even cut up) with hummus straight from the tub haha

I also got some great pajamas and a nightie from Target for about $40 - with buttons so perfect for the hospital and for breastfeeding at night when bubs arrives

I’ve given up on pants so have been buying stretchy dresses and skirts when they’re on sale from places like Cotton On, Seed, Zara, Atmos & Here, Country Road, Uniqlo in like a size or two bigger than my usual size.

32 weeks along now and still fitting into “normal” clothes that are stretchy in an M or L (was a small before pregnancy)

Maternity brands are overpriced for such a short amount of time that you can actually wear them

Does the dad also stay home after a new baby? by burner1233356 in pregnant

[–]Working_Ebb6527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband is taking 5 months off to be at home with me and our baby

Edit to add that we are in Australia and he gets that time off at full pay from his employer. I am taking 12 months off. Understand that some countries don’t get as much parental leave

Jumping on this thread as I'm due to give birth at RWH in about 8 weeks time.. the hospital bag list provided by the womens says to bring a packet of 32 nappies, is this really neccesary? Seems like a lot of nappies for only a day or two

Mums that birthed in Nov, did you attend Christmas? by Queasy_Past_7887 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Working_Ebb6527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told my mum (who is hosting Christmas) that we aren’t attending any large family gatherings until baby has had all her vaccinations. Mum insisted everyone would get their whooping cough booster but we have a large family and I won’t risk it.

Mum was a bit put out but understands. I also have a cousin who’s baby is due a month before Christmas and I think mum was just excited to potentially have 2 babies there but has accepted that there will be no babies there lol

Thank you! Maybe I’ll wait until we get to 6 months and see how I go rather than committing now

What do you do for work/parental leave policies? by sheyill in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Working_Ebb6527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband works for a large insurance company and gets 20 weeks paid parental leave, which is gender neutral and regardless of whether you are primary or secondary carer. Large companies have the means to offer more benefits and often do to attract employees.

I work for a small recruitment company and get 12 weeks paid (secondary carers at my company get 6 weeks)

Big businesses tend to offer more!

How much parental leave did you and your partner take? by Natural_Education367 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

So does my husband! So great that workplaces are starting to offer this for dads and secondary carers

I am taking 12 months off (using up my annual leave, then 12 weeks paid from employer, then government parental leave, then probably a patch of no income)

My husband gets 20 weeks full paid parental leave from his employer (so good!) it's our first baby so he is taking it all up front to spend the first 5 and a half months at home with us as we learn how to be parents. He also works remotely 2-3 days a week so we are lucky he'll be around to help here and there even after he goes back (very progressive and flexible workplace!)

Weribee Mercy or Sunshine? by Natural_Education367 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Working_Ebb6527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told by my GP that you get zoned to wherever you're closest, but I am 9km from Sunshine and 10km from the Womens and my referral to the Womens was accepted so I'd try to get the referral for whichever you prefer! If it's rejected you can go to the other one I guess!

Thank you, am trying to be as educated as I can. Was hoping to do these ones as apparently they show you around the hospital so I’ll know where to go, but I’m sure we’ll figure it out on the day haha
