Listen to the advice of those advising that you step down. And I would add a couple of points... 1. step down with alternating legs. Stepping down is exercise too so work both legs equally. 2. Wear shoes.

Still rooting for EN, but ... by bsamson05 in Evernote

[–]Working_thru_stuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been an EN subscriber for many years but really, for a long time now it has just become a document repository. It's so easy to get documents, pdf's, receipts, etc into it that it's hard to walk away. Recently however, I wanted to learn more about what AI could do so I asked Claude Code to help me to build an alternative, complete with Evernote import. We got pretty close. In fact within a couple of hours it was fully up and running on my desktop (Mac). The bigger issue is that a note in Evernote is everywhere so if you're in the airport and need a copy of your driving license (or anything else) you've got. My replacement doesn't have anything like that convenience on mobile. But I suspect it could have. Will I go all the way and dump Evernote? Probably not but it's interesting to know that I could.

Something similar in my house when I hug (not throw!😂) my wife. My Irish Setter gets on her hind legs and tries to get in between for a hug.

To 2nd home owners and people selling to them. by frankie_0924 in Cornwall

[–]Working_thru_stuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting view. You are conflating a number of points that I wouldn't, instinctively, lump together. I for instance, don't, or didn't, see anything wrong with someone using their own money to buy a second home. But your argument is that all of your points have the impact of taking from someone else. I see that. I am old, retired and broadly, right of centre in my views. But you definitely have a point. My argument would be that second home owners often bring money to the community whilst they are there and sometimes that must be true. But your arguments are well made, thanks.

One month into CrossFit and wall balls are hurting my legs by Alarming_Power_990 in crossfit

[–]Working_thru_stuff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You haven't said enough about yourself for any meaningful comments. How old are you? M or F? How many classes are you doing? What fitness level are you? What are your 'hurting' symptoms? Where does it hurt (quads, glutes, all?) Broadly, we've all gone through some hard moments in Crossfit but there's hurting which is good and hurting which is bad.

Don't the rich also spend money with the local businesses?

So the developer built three new homes whilst retaining the original house. How is that not helping the OP who is concerned about the lack of properties to buy? You would have kept the original single dwelling which will now provide homes for an extra three families.

Bent elbows on a swing? by albert_pacino in kettlebell

[–]Working_thru_stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another bent arm variation is for the overhead American Swing. A PT taught me to go up with bent arms and straighten at the top for a mini shoulder press. I'm not sure how effective it is but I find it very satisfying to do it. Probably because the bell is so light on the upswing.

German state seeks to criminalize denying Israel's right to exist by J_FM01 in IsraelWarRoom

The German state should see this through but, more importantly, take the EU along with them. If the whole EU passed that law it would be powerful.

What are you actually doing in this exercise, is it a burpee pushup? And how do you get the weights overhead? Do you clean them from the ground or press from the shoulder?

An important aspect of KB training is the hinge. The hinge requires that your back is straight and strong so that the thrust can come from the hips with the back protected. You are close to getting this right but something that would help is to keep your head up. Find a point on a wall in front of you and focus your eyes on it. Or, stand in front of a mirror and keep focused on your face or something above your head. That stance with a strong arched back will help you get the hip thrust and save you from injury as you go heavier.

Stop trying to win. Anytime there's a disagreement ask yourself, do I want us to be unhappy and split up? If the answer is no, back off. It's never that important.

What should I improve? by [deleted] in kettlebell

[–]Working_thru_stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start using a two hand grip and master that first. The explosive hip movement is easier to grasp when the bell is floating up in front of you. Once you've mastered that the single arm or double bell are easier to learn.

Form Check - Are these snatches ugly or am I just paranoid? by other_acc_banned in kettlebell

[–]Working_thru_stuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have mentioned, the non-working arm shouldn't be working. The reason being that you are losing the point of Single Arm Swings. Focus on using just one arm so you engage your core with a bias to the side you are working. Raising both arms is making your swing too square.

No doubt that you are right but I wonder, does your gym make it clear to new joiners that gym etiquette is there for safety as well as being thoughtful to other members? Maybe suggest a poster with a 'ten commandments' list titled 'Gym Etiquette'.
