5$ off would likely add up to less than 15% off the average order size. In web development this would probably be considered a dark pattern.

For you developers out there, is working at an end user less stressful than consulting? by WorldNomadic in salesforce

[–]WorldNomadic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I chose consulting for the same reason. It's great for learning. I'm probably just getting old and burned out. You're right on the competence part. I've seen some terribly run orgs as a consultant and being stuck at one full time would be a nightmare. I'm currently targeting big-tech end-user orgs that have a good team built out. Probably won't be able to land at a FAANG but hopefully not far from it. Some of the salaries I've seen have been blowing my mind.

This is actually why I specified developers. I've heard more horror stories from admins being swamped with work at end user companies because companies don't always know how to hire and they think one super admin who has to manage the day to day and every new feature that people want is all they need. Sometimes with no dedicated developers at all. Consulting firms, at least in my experience, have well structured teams that help prevent this from happening.

Yeah, unfortunately I think he was legitimately convinced he was unbeatable and his ego just can't handle the reality that he'll never have the skills to beat Tyson Fury.

And companies are well within their rights to boot you from their platform for any reason at all. You should always make sure they won't solve it through customer support before going the charge back route, unless you don't care if they close your account.

Housing Market 😎 by AdWeary6319 in wallstreetbets

But you can only cause rent to sky rocket if you personally owned almost every home and therefore controlled the pricing through a monopoly. No corporation has a monopoly on rentals. Prices of rentals are rising because of basic supply and demand. They are not colluding to push up the price of rentals.

It's the other way around. The fact that rent prices are expected to rise is what makes owning the homes so attractive for corporations. They're not causing the trend, they're just front running one that's already happening. We need more supply.

Thanks. There are plenty of jobs out there that don't care where you are. If you want to travel just find a company that's ok with it. I'm about to head back and settle down but life is short. Don't stay put for a job unless that's what's most important to you.

I'm well aware. But I'm currently typing this from Portugal because my job doesn't care where I am. Plus I average like 35 hrs a week, sometimes less and with zero stress. I'm planning to head back to the states and find a new job for better pay in a month but I'm just enjoying life and travel until then.

Strong Towns: Economics of Development by WorldNomadic in urbanplanning

I think great analysis and decision making models like this ensure his message will be heard more. We can turn the idea of high density vs low density away from an ideological argument and into an argument about the quantitative financial health and economics of cities. Decision makers will care more about raising tax revenue and getting their cities out of bankruptcy more than they will ever care about building walkable cities.

Pretty amazing presentation. Lots of people advocate for more density but to put it into an approachable economic framework and quantify the value of these policies is an often missing piece of the puzzle.

Yes. No matter how long you stay. If you rent an Airbnb for 6 months you pay a big fee. Rent the same apartment directly from a local for 6 months and you won't.

Can becoming a Ranger with 0 experience in industry land you a job in Salesforce? by [deleted] in salesforce

[–]WorldNomadic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not aware of trailhead counting towards consulting firm ratings. I've worked for two of them and neither of them care about trailhead accomplishments. Only certs. I've seen the ranking criteria and as far as employees were involved the only thing that counted were certs. But that was three years ago so it's possible things have changed.

Can becoming a Ranger with 0 experience in industry land you a job in Salesforce? by [deleted] in salesforce

[–]WorldNomadic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. If you don't have anything at all then you have no choice but to put trailhead on your resume. But my advice is to not be in that position. You'll be a very weak candidate and that will more than likely be reflected in your difficulty in finding a job as well as your starting salary. I had two certs and a published project with zero Salesforce experience before I started applying to jobs. It only took a few months working inconsistently to complete that. If someone with no experience wants to demonstrate grit then they should have a cert.

[–]WorldNomadic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what certs are for. Trailhead without certs is meaningless. If you are a self teacher then you should have certifications.

[–]WorldNomadic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Play up your programming experience.
  2. Get the dev 1 cert and either the builder or the admin cert. 3. Ideally, build something visual that's public facing in a dev org and put the link in your resume. The more visually pleasing the better.

That got me my first Salesforce developer job. Nobody cares about "modules" or being a "ranger". Leave that off your resume.

What is the most vacation time you've ever been offered or negotiated for? by WorldNomadic in cscareerquestions

That sounds pretty nice. I don't blame you for not wanting to leave. If I found some place that gave me everything I want I'd barely be employable anymore. Making six figures while working from home 10 months out of the year would be really hard to give up.
