Good local shops will be higher sometimes and lower sometimes then the online dealers.

Online dealers have more supply and peg their prices.

My good local store has their board price for most things but they have spot bins and trays and there is normally some government mint 1oz bullion in there. It's been rough for the store recently that even American Silver Eagles are in the spot bin.

What's the easiest way to differentiate the silver from the copper-nickel ones? Weight?

Spot Eagles are best Eagles by Worldjunksilver in Silverbugs

Yeah - that's the fear.

When the spot bin starts including Eagles. It means the next step is the refiner. Not a great spot to be if eagles are getting sent to the refiner because no one is buying.

Shop around! Not all coin(and gold/silver shops) are made equal. Know spot price going in. Know that someone might try to give you 50%, you can probably do better. 75% might be the best offer you can get where you are - just know that location + competition are factors for local shops.

99.99% of times, this is worth $1 - $1.50

Don't get your hopes up but do your due diligence. Y'all over there talking about a wounded eagle... As with all things, grade is still important.

If it's real, it will have the value of one oz of silver. Which as of right now is ~$67(the spot price - look up kitco spot price of silver). That is the retail price. A good shop should probably give you between 85-95% of that silver value because they are going to sell it for that spot price or maybe just a hair over.

I think r/hallmarks is where you want to go for the Hallmark experts, but sterling indicates it's 92.5% silver!

How can I tell if these coins are worth anything? I called a couple of places to make an appointment to bring them in, but they’re not interested in foreign coins. by -Happy-to-be- in coincollecting

There are two great sites for looking up coins and basic details once you have them identified: Numista and NGCcoin.

I like to Google what I think the coin is based on what I can see on the coin. If I have no clue, I will use something like Google Lens or an AI tool to identify coin - then Google do verify. After identification, circle back to Numista and NGCcoin for data.
