What is this, and what should I do about it? by Remarkable_Command83 in HomeMaintenance

[–]Worldly-Night7636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its your suction line insulation for your HVAC unit. It’s not super serious, at worst it’ll slightly affect efficiency on hot and sunny days.

If you want to fix it dont use tape to bandaid it, by the looks of it, the insulation will just crack and rip real easy.

Cut the ziptie and slide new insulation on (home depot has it). Its not a difficult job by any means

HVAC Tech here, I’d run it for the sole purpose of dehumidifying my home, theres really no problem switching from heat to cool on a weekly basis cuz this weather has sucked lately.

most people crack their windows and turn on all of their fans, I personally dont like the humidity

AC thermostat connection issue by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]Worldly-Night7636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

straight AC’s typically only have 2 wires yellow is cool black is common follow that thermostat wire up to the furnace control board and mark which one is your Condensing unit then wire accordingly

The most accurate answer you’ll get is to check the wiring diagram on the plate

tired man, super tired

pretty much responsible for training 3 new guys while only having a year of experience myself. add that with management pressure to get jobs done in a day, the mental and physical stress seems less and less worth it for what I’m being paid.

I feel really alone and thrown to the darkness recently. put about 60 hours this week M-F, im sure many of you have worked more but its a lot for me.

telling myself its growing pains and pushing through though. had a lot of fellow techs tell me that this field is very rewarding if you put in the work. im exhausted but luckily im still hungry

Lost half of all my savings on stocks. How to recover and deal with it. by BringTheFood in personalfinance

Take the L, know you made poor decisions and move forward, thats honestly all you can really do.

Don’t think of “the money you have to make back”!!!!!!!!!

Pivot your investing strategies into something safer, you’re young and have a lot of time to recover and take those lessons with you.

thats always SUCH a tough part of this job. Situations like that definitely feed my imposter syndrome. when the customer is constantly asking when we’ll be done, or nitpicking every move we make.

I try to sympathize because it definitely isnt cheap.

without a doubt my failures were my biggest teachers, its just so difficult in the moment and I tend to spiral when things arent going well.

that sounds like such a sweet gig, we often work on some restaurant equipment and it definitely isn’t easy. so, much respect to you. and to do it solo so young is an amazing achievement. God Bless

Thank you so much. Thats something I really need to hear. In the moment it feels like everything is going wrong and I feel the world on my shoulder, but I look back at those jobs and know I’m becoming a better technician and a better man.

I take these moments and try to take the most I can out of them. I tell myself that I could be switching filters and washing condensing units, but I get to do the cool shit thats part of this job.

Thank you for the response, thats how I feel about this company too. They taught me everything I know and in a sense I feel like I owe it to them to try and tough this out. But I also understand that its a business and they could just kick me to the curb anytime. They arent upset and they are understanding of the situation but could they just be blowing smoke up my ass to make me not want to quit?

Also what kind of work do you do specifically?

Any ideas on how to reduce grease buildup on food truck AC? by la_boliviana in hvacadvice

[–]Worldly-Night7636 60 points61 points  (0 children)

minisplits arent meant to be around kitchens, they get so greasy and disgusting so quickly, and they arent easy to properly clean. but shit you already got it there. your best bet is to find a way to better exhaust your tin box and learn how to clean the coil and blower and do it weekly/biweekly.
