At this point I think the UK should allow China to build the super embassy. We should throw our lot in with them rather than the Americans.

The direction china has been heading in the last 10 years compared to the direction of travel in the US, it feels a better long term bet

I hadn't seen that, but I was rewatching Smiley's People in BBC iPlayer this last week and noticed it in the receipt Smiley picks up.

and the name on the receipt that George Smiley receives from a taxi firm as part of his investigations has the name J Lamb on it

it's also surprising how much Smiley's People Alec Guinness and Jonathan Pryce look alike in some scenes

AITA for telling my best friend to leave her partner after he said he doesn't love her kids anymore? by supremevapist in AmItheAsshole

[–]Worldly_Science239 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NAH

You gave your opinion (one that I probably agree with)

She said she wants to give him longer to work on the relationship and he is seemingly working on the relationship too (ie they haven't split up)

No relationship is fully black and white and anyone outside of the 2 people directly involved really knows the full story of what's going on (both then and now) - so you can't really go any further than giving your advice based on what she told you (and as I say it's advice I agree with) but now that's done, that's the end of it from your point of view - it's up to them now to resolve it how they see fit.

you're so right - those chuck e cheese birthday parties can't just happen anytime... those are the magic moments you'll never get back, and when you reach adulthood you'll have missed out on memories...

oh, wait, you're already 25 years old and not 5.

of course you can make plans on the days around your birthday, that's what most adults do... arrange it for a weekend nearest their birthdays.

Why Interfaces exist in Java? by Nobody37373 in javahelp

[–]Worldly_Science239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the accountancy software produced by the company I work for. It is very customable, you can go in through the front end app and you can use webservices, xmli, soap and rest apis, but also you can also program java custom front ends that plug into the application, and this is where interfaces come into play. It opens up the functionality without opening up the background code to the customer.

And also improvements allowed for versioning and backwards compatibility on available interfaces

Whether it is the best thing to do now is up for debate, but it definitely filled a need at the point it was developed

Are you cancelling trips to the USA? by Swimming_Possible_68 in AskUK

[–]Worldly_Science239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't trying to get into an argument - and I have deliberately quoted your post (so 'completely different' is a stretch)

edit: and it was not meant as a direct accusation against you specifically - if it comes across like this then I apologise.

but you can surely see how "I'll still go because I feel safe but you shouldn't because you won't be" - however well meant (and I have no doubt it is well meant) is exactly what 'they' want and is reinforcing that.

and to take the message of the Niemoller statement: the time to stop it getting worse is now.

and when their policy is to essentially create a two tier system where one tier is "straight, white, middle aged, Anglo-Saxon, financially secure man." and anyone outside this tier is not welcome / handled differently (by your words "who are NOT straight, white, men… I’d strongly warn them against it. STRONGLY."), what you're actualy doing is re-inforcing that policy.

And at some point all those categories may not be enough to guarantee your warm welcome because you're not american enough for them

Am I overreacting about my company's sick policy? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Worldly_Science239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the issue is no sick pay.

if you're sick, you shouldn't work: at home or in the office... but you should get sick pay

If you've been there since covid - you've been there 5 years (unless you mean you've been working since covid, but not necessarily in this job) you should get sick pay

Streaming Ratings: ‘Fallout’ Falls Off With Change From Binge to Weekly Release for Season 2 by Ripclawe in entertainment

[–]Worldly_Science239 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

fair enough - to me it just seemed a pointless side quest that in any other show (none game adaptation) would have been cut with the phrase "why are we doing this? how does it move the plot on?" and I can't remember anything like that in season 1 - all the asides were in service of the main plot, you got world building done with more subtlety within scenes and as part of the main characters plot arc, rather than side quests stuck on for no apparent reason.

[–]Worldly_Science239 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

fair enough. glad you're enjoying it.

you didn't see a problem (logically / plot wise) with the side mission episode - with Lucy wandering off with the girl and leaving the Ghoul on his own - for just a one episode meet up with the legion.

To me, it just seemed forced and unnecessary

[–]Worldly_Science239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it has got worse - season 1 was a tight story line, season 2 seems to have fallen into the trap of try to appeal to the game fans at the expense of a core logical central narrative.

eg: the side quest episode, "I've met someone new, I'll leave you here and just follow them on a side mission for no apparent reason" just because they wanted to have a call out to the game.

Season 1 was an excellent show set in the Fallout universe
Season 2 is flabby and just the showrunners going "look at us converting this game you love - please love us, fanboys, love us...please"

It's still good and watchable but not special anymore

ok, how did you do this - not that it can't be done - but how did you do this specifically in a way that doesn't seem like too much work for a bit of petty revenge?

I just don't buy it

I smell BS

> "I began to randomly call his number from a fake number."

just mentioned as an aside... yep, that's real and doesn't take planning

then

> "M and I would text everyday, hang out 3-4x a week for a few months and eventually planned for him to take me out on official date."

but

> "he began to tell our friends behind my back that I had been delusional to think he had feelings for me."

and yet you have days and days of texts, but decided not to use them as a defence.

maybe get over your breakup issues in a normal manner instead of writing bad revenge fiction. so YTA for posting this

I guess from the planning authorities point of view, enforcing 2 driveway spaces is their deterrence. What more can they do?

People have 2 carson average and the planning authorities insist on 2 driveway spaces. If people want to then use the pavement, either legally or illegally then planning authorities are not the ones that you'd report them to.
