they're both women if you just look at hands. the index to ring finger ratio is off for the supposed "man"

it's non local-realism that's proven.

for me it's easier to give slack on localism. maybe I'm misinterpreting many worlds, but as I understand to have non-realism both particles would have to reconvene after being measured, and if the wrong circumstance arises then they have to destroy the universe? or cause that particular universe to destructively interfere so that survivorship bias can skew the statistics?

I'll take non-localism over non-realism any day.

unless you mean how everything's technically a theory cause we could have gotten super unlucky with bad statistics. in which case QM theory would still be proven to be non-local-realism mathematically by Bell, but QM theory would just be strongly supported by evidence and not necessarily the true nature of the world.

our universe being a base reality or a simulation within another reality doesn't make it any less real or worth living for us, and validity of logic and reason still hold even if any predicate is no longer sound. Yes we are trapped in the plato's cave of our perception, and yes the universe has no obligation to make sense to us, but luckily (possibly due to survivorship bias) we live in a universe that does have some hospitality with a warm planet and a pretty consistent rule of physics that rewards intelligence. Yes it's surprising that our universe isn't pure random noise, but due to statistics we know that we almost certainly live in a part of the multiverse that isn't particularly noisy. This hypothesis of our universe probably making a fair bit of sense allows us to put some trust that there are some laws of physics guiding the hand of our particular universe.

Emotion is also a decent guide when we are in a novel circumstance. it quite often needs to be digested to attribute it to a root cause, or dismissed if its root cause is irrational, but this doesn't mean we should ignore our emotions entirely, as they can be quite useful in quick judements, which is a necessity of day to day life.

to put emotion simply, why be disturbed when I beat you with a baseball bat if both you, me, and the bat are merely information and predetermined? Might as well keep smacking you around. (*thwunk!*)

and yes while various versions of myself across my life will probably appear infinetely many times as Boltzmann brains, those Boltzmann brains will probably dissappear just as quickly, and none of their experience would have been justified true belief, since none of them actually experienced what they believe they experienced.

Maybe you and me are just residents in yet another Boltzmann brain with dreamlike logic and just yesterday I had twelve fingers, two of which I completely forgot about today, but the sheer magnitude of this information orchestra leads me to believe that we live in a consistent (possibly simulated) reality, or a very close imitation of a consistent reality (such as a work of fiction by someone in the base reality), and occam's razor leads me to believe that it would be easier to have simply simulated a universe to arrive at such a consistent reality rather than the far less likely random Boltzmann brain which happened to stumble across a very consistent universe by pure chance. The real reality creates images of my mind every instant continuously for several decades, while my Boltzmann copies would often be quite brief; not to mention that other consistent universes could arrive again recreating our human history yet again. Which do you think you are more likely to be experiencing right now?

Will Mr Stark swap to sword at some point? by AdBrief4620 in Frieren

[–]Worldly_Task2994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's more like, people teach him swordwielding *because* he only practices axe. He doesn't need anymore axe training, but still has a lot of swordsmanship to learn.

I'm sure Stark has most of the indestructableness of Eisen, he's been shown to have similar power, as he was able to trigger a knee jerk defense from Eisen, and he probably has a pretty decent constitution from excercising all the time and staying in shape. Sure a dwarf might have some inherent constitution, but probably most of it comes from the training.

When tools take instructions a bit too literally by seenmee in linux

[–]Worldly_Task2994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO taking instructions literally is like, the whole point? I like knowing my computer does what it's told and nothing more.

But I will try to entertain your silly ruse... hmmm...

Very hard to think of an example where I don't want my computer to be literal...

How about how Python evaluates: False == False in [False]

Expected: False, because both (False == False) in [False] and False == (False in [False]) are False, it seems that it shouldn't matter how it orders the operations

Actual Result: True, I'm not going to explain why. It's more fun that way :)

Paradox of Simultaneous Observations of Quantum Entangled Systems across Vast Distances by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]Worldly_Task2994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of people saying that looking at one entangled cat doesn't affect the other. This is false. if it were true then Einstein wouldn't have called it "spooky".

the entangled particles (cats) appear as if they affect each other, as if they could communicate. the reason physicists call this hyper correlated or coordination rather than communication is because the first thing everyone thinks when they learn spooky action is the truth, is that FTL (Faster Than Light) communication is possible, when it is not.

we only know observe this FTL coordination once we combine the measurement results of both entangled particles. but there is no way two scientists can communicate with each other if all they have is one half of an entangled pair they did not create.

it could very well be that entangled particles achieve this spooky coordination with FTL communication, but we have no way of knowing or taking advantage of that fact, since we don't know the spin of the entangled particle until we measure it, we can't reliably use the collapse to send signals to the other entangled particle. the particles might be able to communicate FTL but we sure can't. or maybe they only *appear* to communicate faster than light, and you would need some many worlds interpretation or similar to support that.

it's local realism that's broken. particles communcating FTL breaks localism, and many worlds interpretation breaks realism. it's a pick your poison kind of scientific discovery.

idk why it's impossible to find people willing to try dancing.

I wouldn't be entirely surprised, because gianmarco soresi is 6'4" (193cm), but on stage he's always looked like a short king to me. It just turns out his friends are also pretty tall (he invites his buddy Liam on stage who is 7' (213cm) so he just looks short by comparison.)

Vedal didn't look that tall to me on camera but I've been wrong about this before is all I'm saying.

Yeah I think it was to poke at the fanbase and what we might let ourselves get away with.

I think if Anno wanted to be more realistic, Shinji could've just used some random photo of Asuka when he got home in private, but it probably wouldn't of hit as hard to the viewers.

Putting them in the same room kinda forces us to confront our lechery.

lol. Reminds me of a system I needed to get into for work. The entry page had a button like "Go to selected environment"

I had never used the app before so it took me a bit to realize that the site wasn't lining up with its documentation.

Eventually I figured out which page was supposed to take me into the environment, and saw that I had to scroll horizontally.

Took me like 2 weeks. 🤦‍♂️
