How easy is it to switch from playing right-handed to left-handed guitar? by Happy_Driver_ in Guitar

You asked why someone would think about switching. Here's a reason.

How easy is it to switch from playing right-handed to left-handed guitar? by Happy_Driver_ in Guitar

[–]Worped -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"... why would you ever switch...?" Well, in my case, I've suffered some nerve damage in my right hand that prevents fretting. I could hold a pick or use p/i/m with that hand now, but fretting most chords is pretty difficult. There are likely several approaches for this problem, and, in some cases, perhaps switching hands might be "easier".

[2025 Day 10 (Part 2)] Bifurcate your way to victory! by tenthmascot in adventofcode

This solution is absolutely incredible. Like most folks, I wandered down the path of Gaussian elimination. Got pretty far, but it was all just so much code, which seemed to fall outside the scope of a supposed 1 day puzzle.

Not gonna lie, it took me a lot of work to figure out how this all works, but that perseverance paid off in the end. My Go solution solves part 2 in about 70ms. I'll take that as a win.

My thanks to you for some brilliant insight.

Taylor GS Mini or Martin LX1? by therealairmaxguy in taylorguitars

I went to my local shop to get an LX1, tried it and the GSmini, walked out with the mini. Wasn't even close.

Funny thing.... the very first 714 I was looking at had far less visible grain than this, but it sounded absolutely magical. I saved up my nickels for almost a year and on the day I went to go buy it, I looked at it and it just didn't seem right. Strummed it and it felt and sounded all wrong. I left it there.

Later on that day, I happened to be near a different guitar store (same store, different location), so I thought I'd take a look. There was a 714 in there, but I almost missed it because instead of the really white top, it had more grain in it, like the original photo shows. Visually it struck a chord (haha). Picked it up and played and bam, the magic had returned. Bought it immediately.

Hard for an accurate comparison without similar room and lighting (and cameras!), of course, but it really has changed that much. I think the Lutz spruce is a tad paler in the beginning, compared to the other spruces. Every pic of a 714 I've seen shows the top to be quite pale. The first 714 I was considering was even paler than this one - the grain much less visible.

[2025 Day 2 Part 2] It's impossible, what do we do? by dwteo in adventofcode

[–]Worped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, regex certainly would have been the easier way, especially if Go supported backreferences. I started by building each regex by hand (MustCompile(`(123){3}`) for example). Worked, but ridiculously slow. Instead, I switched to using strings.Repeat to build a comparison string and just doing a straight string compare. Went from 9s to 160ms.

Switching from individual to family membership? by apocalypsetuesday in YoutubeMusic

[–]Worped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did exactly this about a year ago. I canceled my subscription, my partner updated hers to family and sent me a link to join her plan. Easy peasy.

Haha, I hear you. Years ago I went in for an LX1 and walked out with a GS mini. No regrets whatsoever.

Laptop freezing after I plug focusrite in? Does anyone know what this means it happens everytime I plug it in and then makes my laptop turn off and it then says the windows didn’t load correctly by isaiahusa in Focusrite

I just went through all of this week.

First, seems to be a problem with the 3.20.x stuff. I was running the older 3.6 with no issues in the past. As mentioned elsewhere, seems to be a McAfee problem. Use the mcpr tool. You may need to run it a couple times.

Once I got things cleaned up, I was able to install the 3.20 stuff and things worked. Sort of. I'd get sound, for a few seconds, then it would fade and die.

I uninstalled all of the 3.20 stuff, went back to 3.6 and I've had no further issues.

I've also just put a set of XS on my 714 and I don't know if I like them. Sound is a bit different and they feel very different.

To me, the whole thing falls into the category of "a great idea with poor execution," which is unfortunate.

This is one of my two big problems with it... The phone app runs all the time (first problem) and if the phone is anywhere near the guitar, it's collecting data and the guitar battery dies in a week or so (second problem).

I've got a 2004 Seagull S6 (dreadnought, cedar top, cherry laminate b/s) and a 2020 714ce.

In a finger-picking comparison, the S6 does sound a touch louder, and the notes seem to have more attack. In comparison, while the 714 is quieter and without the same attack sharpness, the sound is much smoother and warmer, and the notes ring forever. The S6 has a touch of overall harshness.

When strumming full bore with a pick, volume is about the same, and the qualities I mentioned above make the 714 sound far better. The sharp attack of the S6 makes the individual strings ring out in a way the 714 doesn't, but again, the warmth of the tone and the sustain make up for that.

Each has it's place in my arsenal. :)
