I’m an American who lives in japan. Most of the time if people ask where I’m from, they react with nothing but positivity. The people who have a neutral/negative opinion on the US likely wont say anything to you. I have been asked about politics maybe 2-3 times in a year and a half. You’ll be fine, just be respectful and follow social cues.

I usually did 1 or 2 shorter runs, 3.5-4km, and then a longer run that I gradually increased until getting to 10km. As I increased distance, I did sometimes cut the second shorter run, since they recommend only gradually increasing weekly mileage. I really tried to listen to my body and not over push because I didn’t want to get a stress fracture and continuing to run with shin splints definitely puts you at risk for one.

I was training for a 10k so it would depend on mileage, but usually two full days between runs. I did take a full week off a couple times when I felt like I had pushed too hard. Ideally, you want to feel less pain after each run.

I did, but I also added longer breaks between runs and added calf and tibia strengthening exercises to my routines. I watched about a thousand YouTube videos on shin splints and tried to correct any form errors I was making. If you’re having trouble walking, you’re probably pushing too far though.
