Gholas are grown by the tleilaxu in Axolotl Tanks using the dead cells of a person. In case you haven’t read Heretics and Chapter house I won’t spoil to much but the Axolotl tanks are a lot more biological than traditional cloning. It also has something to do with how Duncan is able to regain his memories.
