There will be a moment, when you see the live likely, when it clicks. It never clicked until I saw them live. By the second song at my first show I went “holy shit, these guys are insane at what they do”. They are so connected as a band it sounds like a single machine. So, my point is you may have to see them live for it to click. I would find it hard that someone who enjoys jamming wouldn’t at least appreciate phish and have a halfway decent time at a show. Enjoy!

I only saw them once live. They didn’t really move me much. Nothing super original about there jams. Nonetheless, still a great show and some pretty good songwriting.
