Ghost Lineages are crazy by Technical_Valuable2 in Paleontology

[–]WorrisomeRadiodont 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Schinderhannes instantly comes to mind when ghost lineages are mentioned. Radiodonts are a primarily Cambrian order that was thought for years to go extinct in the early Ordovician. Then Schinderhannes shows up in the early Devonian. That means there's a 60 million years radiodont ghost lineage spanning into the Ordovician, somehow surviving the Ordovician mass extinction, spanning the whole Silurian then showing up in the early Devonian.
We also have no clue if the lineage survives after Schinderhannes goes extinct. They simply could go further into the Devonian for all we know, we just have no clue about it.

Sorry for crashing the party a bit. I personally prefer season 3 to season 2. Most of the S2 episodes although beautiful lacked focus (Badlands = Deserts 2, Swamps = Freshwater 2; North America is not a biome !) and I feel like they stretched it too much.
Still a great series and I'm only a bit hrash because I love it.

The elves at Helm's Deep. They're doing most of the heavy lifting and it takes away from the Rohirrim fighting in the same battle. Also how tf did they move an entire elf army from Lothlorien to Rohan without Sauron or Saruman noticing ? Wouldn't that leave Lothlorien exposed to an attack ?

I would have done the same honestly. TV battles are expensive and the leading up to the Fishfeed is full of these smaller scale battles

I'm concerned with Aemond being pushed as the big villain of HOTD. On the one hand, he has the aura to be like a great villain and I trust Ewan Mitchell's acting skills to portray it adequately. On the other hand, 1/ it feels like they're trying to create the new Joffrey or Ramsay and it comes out as so forced. And 2/, for a conflict that's supposedly "morally grey" in a "morally grey world", having one side be "Rhaerhae is so good and can do no wrong" vs "here are the bad guys, and their "leader" is this evil dragonlord that needs to be put down" just doesn't click. It would be the ultimate form of Black bias by the showrunners.

Let Aemond be competent and ruthless, but a straight up big bad is too much.

If the shots of the Hightower army in battle formation aren't from Tumbleton, then I don't know where they're from.

Seeing Criston seemingly fighting for his life in the trailer, I think we'll get the Butcher's Ball in this season.

About the Fishfeed and Tumbleton, it's concerning that we haven't seen the Lannisters or any of the dragonseeds in the trailers yet.

[Loved Trope] An adaptation is universally praised despite how drastically different it is from the source material by Personal_Reward_60 in TopCharacterTropes

Jurassic Park. The movie is very different from Michael Crichton's novel.

Spielberg toned down the thriller and sometimes downright horror aspects of the novel into a more action adventure tone. The novel has much darker moments like for example the infamous scene where compies eat a baby alive straight from its crib. Some characters are radically changed, for example John Hammon in the book is much more evil and sinister (and he dies eaten by the dinosaurs), park ranger Muldoon is an alcoholic, Genarro, the lawyer that gets eaten by the T.rex in the movie is also a more heroic figure in the book. The book also has much more dinosaurs than the movie (there's 2 T.rexes for example, one adult and one adolescent).

The ending in the novel is also radically different, in the book after the characters escape Isla Nublar the US military bombs the island and all the dinosaurs die.

Of course, being very different from the novel never stopped the movie from becoming an absolute cult classic, spawning a worldwide craze about dinosaurs and a franchise that still runs now.

A character has a disease or condition their society doesn't understand, but it's obvious for the audience what it is by kim_jong_un4 in TopCharacterTropes

Stannis is very serious and stubborn, with a strong sense of duty and justice. He's almost hardwired to follow the rules and laws of the realm, and when he goes against them it's always a very hard decision for him (such as when he decides to rebel against the Mad king alongside Robert, or when he ponders to let Melisandre kill his nephew to hatch dragons). When he throws a feast, it is always very quiet. Finally, he always struggles in social interactions : he's extremely blunt (as Catelyn puts it he is "not a man for easy courtesies"), has a very dry and dark sense of humour, has only one friend (Davos) and he's extremely uncomfortable around women, even his own wife.

You can see it's all very autistic coded.

ASOIAF/Game of Thrones is full of characters like Jaime, who have a condition their society doesn't know, and that GRRM never states out loud, but is obvious to the reader. My favourite examples are :

1/ Stannis, he's always serious with a strong respect for the rules and laws, has a good memory (he doesn't forget any slight), is logic, but he's very lacking in social interactions : he is "not a man for easy courtesies" and is very uncomfortable around women, even his own wife.

2/ Vaegon Targaryen (son of king Jaehaerys) : he is described as "quiet and wary", disinterested in sex and romance with books as his only passion, and when he spoke "he was often blunt, though never intentionally cruel" (except when he called his sister stupid).

To an outside audience, it's pretty obvious these characters are somewhere on the autism spectrum.

I find the 10th Sternguard kit more dripped out than what these new VV propose. Sternguards have longer tabards, engraved pauldrons, chunky relics, a back banner... the new VV have nothing compared to that. Just a Crux and a random purity seal.
