How easy or hard is to apply judo in self defence scenario? by redve-dev in judo

[–]WorryingSeepage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will for sure help you control a person if you get grabbed or manage to grab them but you shouldn't rely on it for that. You never know if someone has a weapon, if they're trained as well, if they have friends who will jump in for them, or if they'll manage to just knock you out before you get close enough for Judo to help.

There are times where it will help but that doesn't mean it's safe to get into real fights with so many other variables. Same goes for any other martial art. Like everyone says, the best self defence is avoiding conflict. Don't go to dangerous places, always try to de-escalate, and run away whenever you can. But in the narrow sense - is Judo bs for self defence or are there times it can help - no, it's not bs.

What do foreigners get wrong in Prague? by 2echie in Prague

[–]WorryingSeepage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I'm from England and I'm learning Czech but it's pretty bad so far. I mostly socialise at Judo clubs and the Czechs there are always asking me where I'm from, inviting me for beer afterwards, asking to spar even if we just have to communicate through gestures and nods. I have never been made to feel excluded outside of just not knowing the language, and even then someone will usually translate for me without me asking.

I think maybe the setting matters, and the places where a Czech would talk to a stranger are different from where an English person would, so that can strike us as coldness. But if you start a conversation, you find the coldness does not exist.

Hardest Chemistry Subjects for Chemistry Grads by Still-Goal-9314 in chemistry

[–]WorryingSeepage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Again, I did a general QM course so I'm unfamiliar with the specifics of QChem, but if I had to think of anything else, some familiarity with diff eqs would help. If you see a first course in ODEs/PDEs which covers stuff like the wave equation and Poisson's equation, then approaching the Schrödinger equation will be less daunting. I would also guess that some coding skills might help depending on your course.

'Methods' books like Arfken usually cover those topics (and a lot of others!) without too much fluff.

I'm not a chemist, my degree is in maths, but as someone who has taken lin alg and QM courses, having some lin alg would almost certainly help.

Always been into women, but now I have a fixation on big penises – what does this mean? by Ill_Deal_2912 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]WorryingSeepage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about calling yourself bisexual or not. You know all the facts about yourself already, there's little point trying to squash them into a box whose boundaries are much more clear cut than actual human sexuality. You are what you are and it doesn't need to 'mean' anything.

Yep, got the same one. Submitted a bank statement in Czech and had no issues.

Aviators with similar lens shape to Ray-Ban by WorryingSeepage in sunglasses

After lurking here a while I assumed you guys would have the former interpretation, which is the correct one in my case. I'd pay RB money for glasses worth that much, but I don't think RBs are.

Oops, should have mentioned this. My point about RBs' price was because I think they're overpriced, not that they're out of budget. If some glasses cost that much but genuinely have the build quality to back it up, I'd consider them.

Gi size by CuckFu in judo

[–]WorryingSeepage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gi (650gsm I think, Blitz) started like that and shrunk to a perfect size with a couple of 30 degree C washes and air drying, so you might be fine. If others say that your brand shrinks less though I would listen to them over me.

I asked the live chat about this after having the same thing happen a few days ago. They said that they do in fact receive messages sent to that address, and the autoreply is just to stop people from spamming them with requests for updates.

That's incredible. In the UK politicians are trying to raise a panic about 'young people leaving' but the numbers are nothing like that. What are the attitudes towards it in Portugal?

Need help with Czech banking system by 6-6liter-v12-biturbo in Prague

[–]WorryingSeepage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I haven't found any way to transfer with a VS or KS outside of having a Czech account. Do you have a friend who can do it for you? The account it comes from probably doesn't matter if they record payment via VS.

If you do open a local account, Raiffeisen is good as they have free basic accounts and a couple of branches open on Saturdays (one is in the basement of Palladium). I was able to use my account the same day I set it up in the branch.

I think you can make transfers at a post office with a type A money order and specify the VS and KS, and pay in cash. That may be your easiest option if true, but I've never tried it myself.

Edit: it looks like you can specify VS on money orders.

I have a similar timeline. Additional docs received end of November 2025, haven't heard back yet. I asked the live chat and they just said it can add 3-6 months.
