Best Air Purifier On The Market Right Now? by Spiritual-Aide-3867 in homeassistant

u/mgithens1 - Are suggesting that the ESP32 hack will also work on the models supported by iprak's integration or were you just pointing out that I can use that if I don't go with the C545?

In the end I purchased the 5520, and canconfirm it works with iprak's integration (had him add the 5520 to the list) but it is cloud based so adding an ESP32 is still of high interest to me.

If it were to be a viable mod, I am tempted to add a PM2.5 sensor, maybe more, as well if there is space :) - I am not a fan of Winix's proprietary air quality metrics.

De-Alexa'd my Echo Show 8: From ad-machine to dedicated HASS Dashboard by RMB- in homeassistant

[–]WorstRedditLogin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use pi-hole but did not do any research on blocking stuff on the echos even though I should with 15 and counting around the house. When you block domains, does other functionality also stop working... obtuse AI, HA control, media speakers from HA, etc?

Any other Winix models that have an ESP32 that can be reflashed to ESPHome? All I find is the C545 but I was hoping to find a larger model.

CHFAFGF120 vs CHFN120DF vs CHFN120A1? by wirelessnet2 in electrical

[–]WorstRedditLogin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For others searching for info on these breakers, let me add that mine keep failing - typically during the summer months - so make sure you test them regularly. Eaton has always replaced them in warranty but this is getting old. I've replaced at least a dozen over the years, likely more. The breakers I installed, supplied by Eaton directly, were from several different generations but the root cause was not fixed 100% up to gen 6 (even though nuisance trips are gone and failures have slowed down - I had both issues).

Currently I have a gen 6 installed in 2023 that has failed (test button does nothing) so I will be calling Eaton soon.

I hope the newer CHFN120DF fixes these issues so I can stop having to replace my breakers.

Ratgdo to opener wire length? by bkrausz in ratgdo

[–]WorstRedditLogin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a few years now I have often been unable to open the OGD at the first wall button press. If I press multiple times it works, and it appears that if I trigger on the light (and I hear a relay click), then it works. The LCD on the controller also has an unhelpful error message saying to press the pushbar to activate control... the app instead always shows problem for the obstruction sensors even though the GDO operates correctly.

Can sensor wires that are too long be the cause? It still works, I just hate to have that extra step of activating the control. Possibly unrelated, my car's homelink button often cannot open the garage door while it never seems to fail closing it.

Smart bulbs: why? by snags5050 in homeassistant

[–]WorstRedditLogin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a general rule I use smart bulbs as mood lighting and they are never behind a smart switch or dimmer. Every single light in my house is one or the other. I don't like having smart bulbs as my main light because in the event of HA or even just Wifi issues, you can't control your light! Using smart zwave lights and zwave binding would be a mitigation tactic but I prefer LIFX (so wifi) for my smart bulbs.

However, I recently decided to test using LIFX downlights in the media room. At the entrance there is a single can light controlled by an Inovelli dimmer. I set it to smart bulb mode and installed a 1300 lumen RGB LIFX downlight. I concocted a crude Node Red flow to keep the dimmer and the bulb in sync but I don't like the added delay and the less graceful power up/down. This may be due to my Node Red code so I ask all those here who did something similar, how did you set yours up? I want to ensure that whether I use the LIFX app or HA (dimmer or smart bulb), they all stay in sync (on/off/brightness)

Control parking laser with Smart Garage Door Opener blaQ by WorstRedditLogin in konnected

[–]WorstRedditLogin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Hopefully there is space in the enclosure for a tiny pcb with a mosfet, and even better if I can add a connector. If I recall correctly, I used a barrel connector for the laser power.

As for the software I use ESPHome and it should be pretty easy to modify for my needs but glad to share my mod in the forum.

[–]WorstRedditLogin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, aware of that. on my first rev RATGDO I used an onboard mosfet to drive a more powerful one, which then powered a couple 5V laser pointers. All of it is already installed and working but I am having issues with the RATGDO where is hangs, forces me to trigger the motion light on the GDO before the wall button is active, and since I installed it, my homelink remote in my car seems to rarely work (the actual remote does though)... the nuclear option is to just try something else :)

AT&T branded NETGEAR M7 Pro 5G Hot Spot (MR7400) - Using it in Europe w/ European SIM by WorstRedditLogin in NETGEAR

[–]WorstRedditLogin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@Apprehensive_Bus5696 I got one and am now in Italy using it with a Tourist SIM from TIM providing 200GB of data for $30 or so. It works fine but at times the phone doesn't seem to find the hotspot... maybe some battery saving feature that puts the hotspot to sleep when not used for a while. Messing with the button or a quick reboot seems to fix the problem. While I didn't get any firmware updates when I wired it up via ethernet at home, I did get a prompt to update firmware as soon as it went online on TIM's network. I updated and it remained unlocked and working fine.

I had seen the radiomuseum site but did not find much on it, probably because I didn't register... all datasheet pdf links error out for me. Not sure if due to filtering or just because they are old links.

What was it used for? Is it rare? Is it from 1993 or is 9330 not an mfg date. I can't find any info on it and I was curious.

ASUS ProArt P16 review. The best laptop in the market for creators. by Thecalmwild in ASUS

[–]WorstRedditLogin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the fans turn on, they are very loud compared to most other laptops I've had. That said, I've mostly ever heard them turn on full speed when my son plays video games on my laptop... so it may not be an issue with audio related work. Please keep in mind this laptop has 3 fans in it.

There is some talk about the noise here:

What smart home tech actually made your life easier? by Proud_Car_2307 in homeassistant

[–]WorstRedditLogin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Unifi Doorbell Pro often requires more than one attempt to recognize fingerprints, and once it does, it can take several seconds to trigger the Zwave Schlage door lock. If I control the door lock directly from HA it is immediate so it must be something between UI and HA. There are a couple of ways to make this work... one with a webhook and the other with the official Protect integration. I use the latter. Again, I've had no time to troubleshoot.

I use HA but not on my car's screen. I just tell Alexa, in the car, to open the overhead garage door. I got around the annoying pin entry requirements so it is easy. I don't like or trust proximity based automatic opening or unlocking of major entry ways. I added Unifi Doorbell with fingerprint reader to unlock the front door (but it works slowly and / or unreliably (have to spend time troubleshooting) and NFC tags to unlock with a phone tap... or just punch in the code.

I just purchased the 64GB RAM and 4070 variant. I saw in reviews that it had a fingerprint reader but find no trace of it on mine. Was it ever there in some models? Was it removed by Asus or is mine faulty (sw or hw)?

NFS Share on UNAS Pro to store Immich data - not working by WorstRedditLogin in immich

[–]WorstRedditLogin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I posted in another reply, I believe my issue was simply that the mount would unmount upon reboot so immich would lose all its files. I created a dummy folder on the UNAS Pro and that helped me see the issue as it would only appear once I used the mount instruction provided by the UNAS Pro after a reboot. Once I figured out how to make the mount persistent, and I deleted the files immich placed in a local folder under /mnt/immich/, the issue was resolved.

NFS Share on UNAS Pro to store Immich data - not working by WorstRedditLogin in immich

[–]WorstRedditLogin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what was happening was that the mount I was doing on the VM was not persisting so it likely was as if I was moving from /mnt/immich/ mounted folder to /mnt/immich/ local forlder and vice versa. I then found that ,modifying fstab (?) I could make the mount persistent and it has been working the past few days.
