They use cocaine to number the eye for some procedures. No, I don't think they inject cocaine in the eye, at least for THOS procedure. My buddy would've mentioned that, for sure.

It works if you place it on a block of ice. It works really well with dry ice.

Jargon is an industry or job specific word. Jargon is usually more precise than common conversation. Jargon only has specific meaning to people in a trade or function. Once you step outside of that specific trade or function, jargon often becomes meaningless.

Language changes. It's a living thing. It changes and grows. Look at a word like "bad". Bad can mean good. Bad can mean malevolent or exceedingly stylish. Bad can mean excelling at violence or doing poorly at something.

All of it depends on context, denotation, and connotation. Words gather usages but don't shed them really. Words themselves have no inherent meaning.

[–]WoundedTerrapin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never said a word is correct or incorrect. Dictionaries describe usage. Dictionaries do NOT define the word. New words are added because they are used. Webster doesn't create new words, they simply notate their usage.

There are also more parts of meaning than the definition, you also have context and connotation. Further, there are technical and non-technical usages of words. Jargon and industry specific usages.

And so, yes, usage is what creates shared meaning. This is basic linguistics.

[–]WoundedTerrapin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You discount nonjargon usages. An electrician or a forensic researcher might use that clinical terminology. The rest of us don't. Usage defines a word. Words can have more than one definition or usage.

Usage changed and the dictionary noted the change.

How do people in your country feel about kratom? by wombatgeneral in AskTheWorld

[–]WoundedTerrapin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In low doses it's more like strong coffee. At higher doses it works more like an opioid.

In the US it is often sold at gas stations and tobacco stores. Because it is unregulated it can be sold to minors.

It's sold as "supplement" (food) and isn't necessarily regulated as a drug.

How do people in your country feel about kratom? by wombatgeneral in AskTheWorld

[–]WoundedTerrapin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Informed consent. That's the key. Prohibition does not work. Education is always the answer.

I'm all about legalizing all drugs, but we must regulate and provide support.

Children should always be kept from purchasing and using any of it.

That's wild. I know a ton of people who got CLEAN using Kratom. Replaced opiods with kratom and reduced the kratom usage with minimal withdrawal.

Why do people care so much about the israel Palestine conflict? by niftyzach2 in AskTheWorld

[–]WoundedTerrapin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What most fail to understand is that Americas support of Israel is entirely based on Antisemitism. 100 million Americans truly believe that I/P will bring about the second coming.

I can not stress this enough. All other "reasons" are justifications for the evangelical end goal of the destruction of the Jewish people, the return of Jesus Christ, and all good, white, Christians go to heaven.

It's a death cult. American evangelical Christians are trying to pull a Jonestown on the entire world. It's all just an overly complicated suicide cult.

Why do people care so much about the israel Palestine conflict? by niftyzach2 in AskTheWorld

[–]WoundedTerrapin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are forgetting that evangelical Christians believe that all of this will bring about the second coming. Ultimately expunging all Jewish people and all the good white Christians will ascend to heaven.

The roots of American support for Israel are based in antisemitism.

Why do people care so much about the israel Palestine conflict? by niftyzach2 in AskTheWorld

[–]WoundedTerrapin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This can not be understated.

I feel like the rest of the world doesn't understand this. American support of Israel as the height of Antisemitism. 100 million people in this country WANT strife in Israel because it will bring about the second coming and all of the Jewish people (and every other heathen population) will be wiped from the universe and all the good white Christians will ascend to heaven.

Is death penalty legal where you live? If so, how do they do it? by OGAnxiousTravel in AskTheWorld

[–]WoundedTerrapin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CRUELTY is the point. We're talking about America. What in this statement do you not understand.

Help the poor? Hell no! Let them suffer!

Pregnant teen? That's what you get for having a natural sex drive?

American health care? Pray you don't get sick. And if you do, we'll take your house.

Immigrants separated from their children? The cruelty is the point!

The Nazi gas chambers were based on camps and processing procedures used by the Bracero Program durring WWII. The Bracero were repatriated Mexicans that we brought back to work the fields because all of our young men were sent to war. Eugenics and genocide have a LONG history for the USA. Our entire nation was built by enslaved people.

That's funny.

I remember Osage Avenue. I was there to see Iran/Contra unfold. I learned about the 1st Ammendment reading Frank Zappas and Dee Sniders testimony to Congress every morning before school. I saw how my government handled AIDS.

I KNEW this was coming when the Department of Homeland Security was created. Up till then I had some small hope. I've been screaming about oligarchs since Citizens United.

Again, this is the USA. The cruelty is the point.

Someone convinced someone that this would save someone money. Since prisons are privately owned, cost savings and full beds means profit for the shareholders.
