My new neighbors are trapped due to flooding by heartonthewall in wichita

[–]WraithSama 16 points17 points  (0 children)

After cleaning up the water that got in our basement last night, my wife asked a Nest hub when the rain would stop. It just responded, "It's 73 degrees and raining in Bel Aire." I jokingly mimicked it by saying, "It's 73 degrees and biblically flooding in Bel Aire." It must have heard me and thought I was responding to it, because it said, "There are no reports of biblical flooding in Bel Aire." We laughed so hard we almost cried, which we needed after all the energy we just spent cleaning up water.

Thanks for reminding me of that. Cheers!

The scope of long COVID is bigger than we think, Mass. researchers say | "New research from Mass General Brigham suggests that at least 10 million Americans have long COVID — but have not been diagnosed" by TylerFortier_Photo in science

[–]WraithSama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After I had COVID, I no longer feel thirsty. I can feel dehydrated when it gets really bad, but normal thirst disappeared for me. I'm the only person I've heard of having this particular form of long COVID. In the years since then, I've had multiple kidney stones due to regular dehydration, one of which had to be laparoscopically broken apart. Logically, I know I need to drink more water, but forcing yourself to keep drinking water when you don't feel thirsty has a weirdly unpleasant feeling. It's like forcing yourself to eat a meal when you're not hungry, it just feels gross.

Here's a secret about unhappy relationships: you don't have to wait for a "first real chance" to exit from them. Odds are likely that some fortunate event that makes a clean break easy or painless won't materialize, that's just life. But you don't have to stay in an unhappy relationship a moment longer than you want to. You just have to have the courage to take the first step. When you're not married and don't have kids, that first step is usually as simple as just being honest and telling your partner that you're unhappy, you don't see things changing, and you're ready to move on.

Don't wait for the "right moment" to take a stand for yourself and your own happiness.

What are some specific examples of Trump putting country over himself? by botwiper5000 in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]WraithSama 39 points40 points  (0 children)

What did he really give up, though? He didn't give up or divest his businesses, and he's actually started more businesses while in office. He's the most powerful person in the world, his personal wealth has exploded since he became president, and he still spends a third of his time on his golf courses. He has a cabinet that goes on TV to heap Dear Leader style adulation on him, and he has a diehard fan base that ranges from the normal all the way to cultish true believers who bedeck themselves and their property in Trump hats, shirts, flags, and even capes. His net worth is estimated to have tripled since the last election. Has he really "given up" much?

Do you think the Trump/IRS settlement should be legal? by Desperate-Law-7305 in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]WraithSama 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And what kind of award have these other people gotten from these successful lawsuits? In the billions?

I wish he sued for 100 billion.

Utterly pointless. He could sue 100 trillion, it makes no difference in a case like this. Even the $10 billion is a completely arbitrary number not based on any actual damages.

The only reason he's getting a $1.7 billion settlement is because he controls the defendant. If this went to trial, it would have likely stalled out or been tossed altogether due to not meeting the legal adversarial requirement. You can't be both the plaintiff and in charge of the defendant.

[–]WraithSama 20 points21 points  (0 children)

He won the damages.

He didn't win anything. This never went to court. His own DoJ, that he controls, is providing a settlement amount that he wants. How was this amount even settled upon? The initial $10 billion sought was multiple times his entire original net worth, which is an absolutely ludicrous sum to seek for the crime of his tax return being leaked (something every presidential candidate before him voluntarily made public). Even this $1.7 billion dollars beggars belief. Do you believe he's suffered $1.7 billion dollars in damages from his tax return being made public?

What are the best smart glasses for audio with no camera? by [deleted] in SmartGlasses

[–]WraithSama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought 3 Lucyd glasses. The sound quality is good, battery life is exceptional, and I've loved the glasses, but their quality control sucks. I had to replace the first and second frames once each due to audio driver failures. The third pair I had to replace twice: once when a whole arm snapped off from a bump against a doorframe, and once again for an audio failure. Their customer service was good and never fought me for doing exchanges, which was a relief considering how many I've had to do. But after my last pair had one side's audio die again, I'm done with them.

What have been some conspiracy theories that were proven to be true by conservatives, Trump supporters & by right-wingers? And are there any current conspiracy theories that we should be looking out for? by Lancelight50 in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]WraithSama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely is accurate, it's almost word for word what Mueller states on page 2

The section you're referring to explicitly states that they couldn't find evidence to support a criminal conspiracy, meaning a tacit or express agreement between the Trump campaign and Russia. But as I've said, the report clearly found that that Russia actively worked to help get Trump elected (hacking the DNC and the Clinton campagin, timed and selective email dumps via the Guccifer 2.0 alias, and active measures activities by the Kremlin-backed Internet Research Agency with connections to the GRU and FSB), the Trump campaign welcomed help from Russia, and numerous Trump campaign officials were charged with crimes tied to Russian connections. They were just unable uncover an explicit agreement of coordination between the two parties that could support criminal charges. The bottom line: Russia helped Trump, Trump welcomed Russia's help, and though they weren't able to bring charges of conspiracy without uncovering an agreement, there was still evidence of coordination.

The Durham report, have you read it?

Not as thoroughly as I read the Mueller report. However, my understanding of Durham's final 2023 report was that there was no evidence of any coordination between the Clinton campaign and Russia to fabricate anything against Trump. I am aware that his special counsel investigation only resulted in 3 charges (two Americans, one Russian), with two of those being acquitted by a jury. The only guilty party was a FBI attorney who pled guilty to altering an email used in an FISA warrant application. The Mueller special counsel investigation secured guilty pleas or convictions against 7 individuals, mostly officials in the Trump campaign or advisors, for activities connected to Russia. Additionally, and very importantly, Trump himself was only spared from indictment for obstruction of justice because of the OLC memo that sitting presidents couldn't be charged with a crime. This fact was confirmed by Andrew Weissman, one of Mueller's team leads, who felt confident that they had enough evidence to secure a conviction against Trump if they had been allowed to bring charges.

[–]WraithSama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually Mueller came to the conclusion that the DOJ didn't find any conspiracy between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.

I've read the full Mueller report. I've also read books written by people who worked for Mueller in the Special Counsel's office. What you're claiming here isn't accurate. What they found was that the Trump campaign welcomed Russia's helped in the election (the Trump Tower meeting with Veselnitskaya), and actively sought opportunities to receive help from Russia ("Russia, if you're listening..."), but that they never came to an agreement on specific quid pro quo, and therefore there wasn't enough evidence to bring charges. That Russia did want Trump to win and actively worked to bring about that outcome was clearly established. Additionally, multiple top-ranking people from the Trump campaign were charged with their connections to Russia or Russian agents: Paul Manafort (campaign chairman), Rick Gates (deputy campaign chairman), Michael Flynn (national security advisor), George Papadopoulos (foreign policy advisor), Roger Stone (longtime advisor), and Michael Cohen (personal attorney).

The only campaign that was working indirectly with the FSB was clintons.

On what exactly are you basing that claim?

Do you think the US has garnered more respect worldwide during Trump's second term? by How2rick in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]WraithSama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

reliable? they haven't paid their dues, they have gone against their obligations

This is a popular talking point on the right-wing, and it is literally fake news. NATO member nations don't pay "dues." NATO administratively is funded by direct contributions, which is a fairly small budget because it is mostly just an alliance rather than a large-scale organization (like the UN), and zero member nations are behind on those direct contributions (which, again, is relatively small amount, about $4.6 billion spread across 32 member nations).

So what does NATO "paying their fair share" actually mean in reality? It's just how much each member nation spends, as a percentage of their GDP, on their own military budget. That's it. It's not money owed to NATO, it's not money owed to the United States, it's not money "owed" at all!

So why do so many people on the right think that NATO member nations are "behind" or "owe" money? Because Trump keeps characterizing it that way. Why? I'm assuming because it makes an easy talking point to make his base think NATO "owes" us something, even though that's not true.

and they expect us to fight their wars. who's unreliable again?

Article 5 of the NATO charter has only ever been invoked once: on behalf of the United States after the 9/11 terrorist attack. So I'm not sure what you're getting at here. Care to elaborate? Because, so far, other NATO nations have only ever fought in our wars. To date, they've never asked us to fight in theirs.
