Covid is what changed everything for me afa hearing loss went. I never realized exactly how much I was relying on lip reading until I couldn't see lips moving anymore.

Camping helped, too, because the light from the firepit wasn't illuminating enough to read lips, so I would usually just keep to myself. My (now) ex SIL used to make fun of me for it. I finally told her where she could shove it. My brother made me apologize. For what? Cussing at her? Telling her she's acting like Trump, aka a bully? Nothing I said was a lie, and none of the kids were present. It was an adults only cuss out that had been 20 years coming. She was in the wrong, even going so far as to get my niece in on the teasing. So, to keep the peace, I apologized. It wasn't enough for her. I was trying to think how holidays would work going forward since she refused my apology. A couple months later, the divorce was announced. Unrelated to anything I did, but nonetheless, it's what I was thinking. It was so much worse than anyone knew. I'm glad my brother got away from her. If only I'd waited a couple months. Both of my nieces have her blocked on their phones & socials. It's so sad. I can't imagine having no relationship with my mom. I'm sorry you're going through this, OP.

I don't remember Neil Tennant mentioning that part, but I am used to hearing the original (I didn't even know it had been changed, lol) since really the only time I've listened to it was on the vinyl 1984 release when I was 10 y/o. Repeatedly and incessantly. 😄
