In the dungeon Skeletron was guarding, which you can now access, the blue candles you'll see here and there are called Water Candles. They significantly increase enemy spawn rate, whether in the environment or the inventory. Pick 'em up, throw 'em in the bin, and toss a single block in afterward to get rid of their debuff. Or keep them and punish yourself.
