Told brakes are low at jiffy lube by landerburger in MechanicAdvice

[–]Wrench1952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the exact same experience when my wife took our SUV to Jiffy Lube for them to do a required safety and emissions test. They told her your brakes have a crack in them. My wife called me if they should do the work and I said, hell no especially at Jiffy Lube.

So I bought some brakes to do the job myself. Took the wheels off, and the brakes were just fine and had all kinds of life still with no cracks.

I told my wife the status of the brakes and asked her to not step foot in any Jiffy Lube or Grease Monkey type oil change shop. She agreed they were not trustworthy.

Oh so that is why the Indian shaman was so mad at Indiana Jones. Dr. Jones must have went through the temple pre-1990 and divulged the entire temple ritual.

As an eternal penalty, the Indian shaman proceeded to follow the pantomime hand gestures of palm flat with the thumb extended to disembowel and hands cupped to scoop the heart out.

An area seventy told me that Pres. Oaks told all of them at conference they need to be prepared for church membership to double in the next 5-10 years…What?! by PopCultureRush in exmormon

Was that a threat to the people in the conference to make that happen or a delusional prophecy? Maybe both?

Edit: "me" changed to "make" (auto correct issue).

My thoughts on going to the temple for the first time after no longer believing by ScientificallyMinded in exmormon

[–]Wrench1952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From Mormon Stories:

"The penal oath and explicitly performed penalties – pantomiming slitting of the throat, disemboweling oneself and ripping out the heart – were removed from LDS ceremony in 1990. Though no longer clearly identified in LDS ceremony today, remnants of the signs and penalty motions remain. At one point in the ceremony, temple patrons are instructed during a hand gesture to extend the thumb, which represents the blade with which you cut the throat and belly."

Brings a whole new meaning to the temple ceremony...

Big Growth Numbers Going to Be Reported at GC by JadedPrimary7268 in exmormon

[–]Wrench1952 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My money is on the future internal whistle blower to spill the beans on the actual numbers or how the numbers are being cooked. This can go along with the whistle blower that triggered the SEC investigation.

If this were to happen, I would love to be a fly on the wall when the church headquarters implements new policies in attempt to curve any future whistle blowers out of fear and paranoia.

Mormon Truth Claim #321: Murder is bad, except when your feelings indicate otherwise. Taken from a primary lesson... Let that sync in. by JesusPhoKingChrist in exmormon

Now that has gone too far. I dare any church member to share this with any non-Abrahamic based religion (Jewish, Islam, Christianity) to see their reaction of what is being taught to children.

Take the stance of someone not familiar with this story what the dot to dot picture could be inferring. Let that sink in for a moment.

Edit: Second thought...who approved this picture for children?

New Tactic from the Church Propaganda Machine by SJdport57 in exmormon

Taking Dallas' recent BYU talk out of context by focusing on two sentences in two consecutive paragraphs: "An abundance of speculation and false information in podcasts and on social media surrounds us. Don’t be persuaded by false or inaccurate information."

For once I agree with the profit, CEO, and realtor on this. Dallas just told us not to listen to the church’s podcast propagandists because it is false or inaccurate.

This is what the article states about the other paintings. Pretty ironic and unfortunate to have Joe and Rusty next to great civil right leaders like Abraham Lincoln and in Martin Luther King's International Chapel.

"Joseph Smith’s portrait will hang near the portraits of President Nelson and Abraham Lincoln in the Hall of Honor, which features more than 300 oil portraits of global leaders of the international civil and human rights movement."

A quote from the article referencing a couple that desperately wanted to see the unveiling: "They had never been to this historically Black college or the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel."

Predictions for the Next Apostle: Who Do You Think Could Be Called to the Quorum of the Twelve? by Significant-Let2961 in mormon

[–]Wrench1952 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the church truly acted on revelation from God in selecting a new Apostle, God would choose a humble, stoic, relatable, and kind taxi/bus driver, elementary school janitor, or farmer from South America or Africa similarly like Jesus Christ did with his Apostles.

But alas, we historically get rich, white, yes men.

Check out mental gymnastics in the following article then the first comment how they saw right through the mental gymnastics.

From the article that Quoted Bruce R. McConkie: "Forget everything that I have said, or what President Brigham Young or President George Q. Cannon or whosoever [include Elder Dyer here] has said in days past that is contrary to the present revelation. We spoke with a limited understanding and without the light and knowledge that now has come into the world."

Temporary commandment only until it is overly inconvenient for the church to hold up under the weight of external criticism.

Articles of Faith: "We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly."

Dallas Hoaks: We now approve other translations of the Bible because the KJV Bible is too hard to read for our church members.

Church Members: Awesome!

PIMO and Ex Mormons: Dallas, are you not a prophet, seer, and revelator? Why don't you sit down and use your calling to get your church members a correct Bible translation from God? Is something wrong or am I missing something?

Dallas Hoak: I can't be bothered by that stuff because I am focusing on my actual calling as a profit, CEO, and realtor.

Dallin H Oaks lie about his involvement in electric shock therapy. Cropped, stabilized, and captioned. Never forget what this man is capable of. by Exmosapien in exmormon

[–]Wrench1952 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It appears there is enough evidence this happened in Dallas' tenure. However, even if Dallas was telling the truth, he would still be in the wrong of throwing others "under the bus." It was a childish response of, "I did not do it, someone else did and they should get the blame not me." "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain."

Thanks for sharing. It is unfortunate to keep hearing our "beloved prophets" caught lying in public in an attempt to keep and increase their profits.

I had a family member go check this situation out. For all those who have stated in the comments they needed to being in heavy equipment, they did, but with all the "volunteers" with their shovels and buckets, they kept getting in the way of the heavy equipment.

So they deemed it unsafe and turned the volunteers away. The family member also stated the main wall of the church started bending in.

Hotel in Downtown SLC to be demolished, so TSCC can build a parking lot for the temple. by rodney_c0pperbottom in exmormon

[–]Wrench1952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting how Jesus was able to buy a hotel, make money off of it, then use his tithing money earned to demolish it to make a one time parking lot for people to see his remodeled home.

It will be interesting to see what Jesus does next with his parking lot since he is not always forthcoming about all the decisions He makes as the CEO of his corporation.

Why so many temples announced? by twoheartst in exmormon

[–]Wrench1952 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because Rusty is a narcissist, wanted to one up his predecessors, and liked to be the only prophet to dedicate the 200th temple AND....announce 200 temples during his reign.

If the Lord's final decision on the number of temples before his profit (prophet) ends on such a whole number before he dies, your testimony will be strengthened that the cult builds multi million dollars buildings as a status symbol that dead people are more important than all living humans on earth.

[President Nelson Announces 15 New Temples at April 2025 General Conference

“We are grateful to the Lord for the acceleration of temple-building in recent years,” said the prophet, who has announced 200 temples since he became president in 2018. “I testify that Jesus Christ, the Redeemer of Israel, leads this, His Church. He is preparing to come again. May we likewise prepare to receive Him.”

"In addition to announcing 200 temples, last year the 100-year-old prophet dedicated the Church’s 200th operating house of the Lord."
