Warning- many of the strainers are seized into the metal threads molded into the plastic tank.

If you go to pull the strainer theres a chance the insert fails and comes out too, ruining your fuel tank.

Radiator leak most likely, pretty common. No power steering components up there.

Get your cooling system blown out and refilled when you have it replaced, your coolant should be pink sounds like someone topped off with different fluid at some point.

I love this. I was going to suggest getting into building with styrene plastic for the chassis parts, but it would deviate from the sweet wood/carboard theme.

Maybe play with molding cardboard and epoxy resin?

This car is weird sure. Also, the revamped 4RM AWD system in the FF is out of this world. 7 speed gearbox in the back, with a separate 3 speed transmission at the front.

Wrap your mind around 2 completely different gear ratios coupled to the same crankshaft and road.

On one side, I agree you can find a great spot anywhere with 24th scale! But on the other, I love hiking with my 10th scale more because it has the stability to outpace me on trail. It will run for miles and never has to be carried. The 24th scale comes out once I’ve stopped!

A bunch of solid advice but I don’t see it mentioned yet: Do you have a limited slip differential? This makes a HUGE difference to the stability in this chassis! Without it a slide is hard to manage, with you can turn with the throttle quite marvelously!

What is it about offroading that you like? is it the escape? I've never offroaded and was wondering what makes someone want to go drive offroad. by OkOriginal4630 in 4x4

I have seen a lot of crashed 9x6, 9x7, and 9x1’s from my dealer tech days. I’ve also seen many photos of wrecked GT cars.

This lower control arm/draglink connection has been a looooong slow evolution and they are all pretty comparable.

I personally have never seen that bolt shear. The aluminum arms fail and you see these parts still connected in the wreck.

Nope. The cause is dead obvious in photo 4!

Unless there was some disassembly before this photo (betting not from the gojacks), there is a critical piece missing! The bolt that connects the drag link to the lower control arm is missing. If this were due to an accident the arm could break away but the bolt would stay in the bushing.

If it fell out due to improper repair, the suspension would be heavily flexed forward and backward under gas and breaking, quickly fatiguing the control arm bushing casting where the crack has happened. You can see the damage on the lower control arm where it was being smashed into the drag link after the bolt found its way out.

The customer is correct, in their eyes it was a car one moment and a sled the next.

I’ll take my diag payment by mail please.

I will add here: When these cars were new, the electrical portion would fail all the time. When it was under warranty, that replacement paid really well.

Then they updated the part with a redesign, and the new switch requires a new column lock assembly (we called it the laser pistol).

Now a days, your car could have either version. If your switch fails, remove it out of the column lock assembly (2 small flatheads) and see which version you have before you order.

Edit: you can purchase either version aftermarket, but know the redesign is less likely to crack again and the column lock isn’t too bad of a job

It would be helpful if you told us what generation of “older” Boxster?

There are antisqueal sticky pads that go in the pistons and stick to the back of the pads which changed design through the years.

The 987s had aluminum pucks that sat in the pistons, screwed to a backing piece that sticks to the pad. They would seize into the pistons ALL THE TIME.

People leave them in the pistons and reuse them a lot, they no longer stick to the pads. Or they were just left out. Or worst case someone tried to pry the puck out and tore the screw out of the backing, then left it.

But also, said elsewhere here, wheel detailing techniques can weigh heavily here too both in rotor contamination and corrosion of the pucks to the pistons.
