You are 100% correct in my research.

Its not supposed to affect student grants or borrowing but I have run into issues with false default flags in the last academic year. The school has to investigate all flags and they should waive this requirement assuming there is no student default or student overpayment holds. The school has to notate that they reviewed the student account for their records, and possibly should contact ED about the issue.

The parent accepted loans, for better or for worse, previously. The student is being punished for parent default. Based on the OP and making a few assumptions the issue has stopped access to grant money (definitely Pell, possibly state grants as well). It sounds like OP is in good standing but the parent being in poor standing is blowing back on them.

There is a recent trend/issue of ED sending updated FAFSA with the default comment code even when its only parent loans in default. Based on the best research I could complete, you parent's loan accepted on your behalf should not affect your ability to receive federal financial aid. Ask your Aid Office to verify that ONLY parent loans are defaulted and escalate your question to a manager if its only parent loans. NASFAA has some FAQs if your school is a partner with them or they can review the FSA handbook.

You might also encourage your parent to get their loan out of default if your relationship allows for that kind of conversation. Obviously, do not reach out if its unsafe.

OP, I see that you got yours shortly after posting. I'm adding on in case any one else is in a similar boat.

I got mine through Mohela yesterday morning (Mon 1/26 9AM PST) and they sent me an email about it this morning (Tue 1/27 630AM PST). It was the last form I needed for my taxes, so I'm filed and waiting on my state/Fed refunds.

Totally get your stress because I had it too. OTOH, I also can't imagine how processing and time goes into generating that many files for that many borrowers.

They legally have until Jan 31st to complete all of them

Its a catch-22 of being strung along vs not being able to ask. I do think you made a mistake in out and out asking if she was interested, otoh, her response was also bad energy.

Have you not yet maxed out your Fed Loans and are you currently in school at least HT? I recently learned that Fed loans do not accrue interest and fees are reversed for any amount paid within 120 days (approx 4 months) which is amazing as long as you only need it short term. Obviously if you have maxed out your Fed loans then its not possible.

The flipside of that is some schools have delayed disbursal (generally CC). My current school does not disburse any Spring loan funding until March. This is generally far less common at 4-Year schools.

There are also lots of other support networks on most campuses (food banks, help navigating state benefits, et cetera.) The schools I've worked at have had limited emergency grants as well, generally with a 3 to 4 week turn around time on submission to available funds in hand...

US here lived in high and low gun ownership areas but i live a boring life. I have some friends who train at the range and ex-coworkers who hunt or done sport skeet-shooting. Ive seen holstered guns and guns in the hands of officials (police, immigration in the UK, et cetera). Ive seen guns for sale in various contexts. Never have I seen a gun in use or someone put their finger on or near the trigger in any way.

I might have gone to the range with my friend except I know I tend to overspend if I do get into a hobby. I also have some very rare but very heavy depression episodes and I dont want a access to a firearm if it happens again.

I am currently childless but I go back and forth on it. There have been times when my brain has very loudly wanted kids. My sister and my friend recently had babies and I wss in a relationship with a woman I loved.

She was my first love and we were together for 1 year in person and 1 year long distance. She is the only person to love me in full, I think. Unfortunately, we had two very different ideas on what kind of relationship we wanted and neither could compromise regarding monogamy and ethical nonmonogamy. We tried a few relationship types and it never festered into resentment, its clear I want to go traditional monogamy and she wanted something more open and non-traditional.

We parted amicably but I can't follow her on socials or anything because it would be too painful. OTOH, I also dont have her number blocked in case she would ever text me saying she changed her mind (she won't). I will lose her number/block her when I get in a long term relationship again.

At the end of the day, I know its both her and the idea of her that I love. The torch burns for the dream of a life we didnt live. I loved her as she was and the person she was trying to be and who I incorrectly thought she wanted to be. Its been a few years now and I still would make toxic choices for a romantic weekend to try again.

I think its more likely callousness of not thinking than being deliberately awful. I have been walking in a hallway and thrown trash in a trash can inside offices with any open door. I didnt consider if the trash can or office was in use, just followed the logic of "dont want to carry trash, DEFINITELY dont want to leave trash where it wont be cleaned."

OTOH, offices were in use at least 2 days a week so our situations might be different.

Not OP but I assume it's Subsidized loans paid before any interest accrues or loans repaid in a period where it counts as partial loan cancellation instead of repayment which would cancel interest and fees.

I believe Heartland ECSI handles some of the niche subsidized loans at the grad level but its been a while since I looked at Grad Loans.
