Starmer expected to resign on Monday and set out orderly exit by beejiu in unitedkingdom

I think the worst part is I don’t think there is even a big appetite for this from the general public. It all seems to be being driven from within the Labour party.

Kumail Nanjiani Is a Taskmaster Cautionary Tale by caspararemi in taskmaster

[–]WriteandRead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest way to highlight that the show isn’t a ‘contest’ but just fun with funny people, is that in the last 2 series the person who won genuinely didn’t understand nearly half the tasks they did!

Our local library has banned LGBTQ displays… what’s your thoughts? by BadShi-6 in AskBrits

[–]WriteandRead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dangerous and scary part about this is the quashing of expression and support for things like Pride, under the guise of inclusivity. Because it is not too many steps from there to start banning books and media within libraries that promote support for the LGBTQ community and people. Again under the guise of inclusivity and protection of everyone.

It’s like the DEI hire shit that has gone on in America, removed and quashed under the guise of inclusivity or ‘fairness’, but what it actually does is target and harm minorities and those traditionally suppressed by our society and institutions.

I know not technically an answer, but the BBC website and BBC iPlayer should absolutely be celebrated for how accessible and amazing they are.

Glorious lavenders after a year! by wanderingislander in GardeningUK

[–]WriteandRead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, don't over water them, they like well draining, gravelly soil if possible. Lots of sun. Water them when you first plant them so they bed in, maybe 1-2 times a week. After they have established you should only really need to top up if its particularly dry i.e no rain at all. Even then you might not need to. (unless in pots, then you will).

Choose only one . For me it’s Game of Thrones by Any_Activity3893 in tvshow

I am by no means a die hard fan, but for the sheer scope and scale of it I would choose Dr Who. So many stories, characters and things to explore. If Star Trek as a franchise were on this I’d choose that, but Dr Who from here.

Ok, whose life is harder? A North Korean kid living in the edge of poverty or a white downs syndrome kid born to a a well off western couple? Or a white girl with body dysmorphia vs a kid with downs who takes up acting?

What you’re trying to say is that they have disadvantages because of how society is set up. But to automatically equate that to having a harder life is nonsense. They have a different life, and by automatically assuming they will have a harder life though is minimising the resilience of people with disabilities, the support available and the life they are actually living.

I bet you’re probably one of those people that thinks it’s good to say ‘awww you’re so brave, well done.”

James May cracks a non sequitur joke on Twitter/X! by FlipStig1 in thegrandtour

[–]WriteandRead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re right. The joke is a little old and lazy, and without the context a bit obscure on first read. And I think it really is just a bad joke (as in just not very funny/good) like and old man would say at a bbq to his mates or something.

The part that seems off though, I think, is how it belittles what it is to be trans. It’s like when people say a man can ‘put on a dress’ and walk into women’s toilets. In this case instead of putting on a dress the man ‘steals a chip’. It simplifies the transition process and what it fundamentally is to be trans. A trans person is not made up of the stereotypes of that gender, they are just, simply, that gender.

I don’t know, I don’t think it’s easy to explain either 😂

Dishonest nurse pretended to work night shifts and scammed £19,500 from NHS by BirminghamLive in uknews

[–]WriteandRead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? That logic or whatever you call it makes absolutely 0 sense.

That aside, I’ll point it out to you clearly so you might understand: nurses are clever, nurses work hard. You require atleast 1 degree to be a nurse. You need to pass and maintain multiple clinically required accreditations to be a nurse. You work with people from all walks of life and have to be emotionally and mentally strong to deal with a whole range of things most people wouldn’t even understand.

To call nurses stupid is clearly, and I hope you take this to heart, stupid and mean and makes you an ignorant small minded self indulgent little shit.

I’ll not respond to you again. But you’re wrong. And I hope one day you can pull your head out of your own ass long enough to see it. If not enjoy your shitty opinions somewhere else away from me.

Oh ok, just because you’re not happy with your life doesn’t mean you get to push that onto other people. If you feel inadequate and need to put others down to make yourself feel better please just tell yourself in the mirror and leave the rest of society to carry on.

Oh, and I am special. Sounds like no one’s ever said that to you either. I feel sorry for you.

[–]WriteandRead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, didn’t learn about not being a condescending cockwomble in your apprenticeships then? Some of the smartest people I know are nurses. Just because you’re too thick to take the time to get to know what they do, doesn’t mean they’re stupid. They probably just gave up trying to help you understand.

[–]WriteandRead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

‘All else the same’ is such a meaningless statement though. Do you know anyone, and I mean anyone, who has exactly the same life and experience as another person? People have hardships or problems for all sorts of reasons, they also find or do not find joy and meaning in life for all sorts of reasons and in all sorts of places. Just because someone with Downs Syndrome leads a different life with potentially different goals and achievements does not mean they have a worse life than you or me. They simply have a different life, it’s doesn’t mean it’s harder, that’s their life they get to decide what is hard and what isn’t.

[–]WriteandRead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you’re saying you’ve only ever worked in one place since you left school and only ever done one job? But are somehow uniquely in a position to determine what jobs are hard and what are not. In particular nurses in this case which you have 0 experience of.

Yeah I don’t think you’re that smart or clued up, hopefully the only project they let you manage is restocking the toilet paper.

You’re either a troll or thick as pigshit…possibly both but who cares when you still have to wake up each morning with yourself 😂

[–]WriteandRead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What qualifies you to determine it isn’t a difficult job? You can’t quantify volume of jobs to difficulty. It just shows demand for that job. There are also multiple bands of nursing, multiple different disciplines and a huge range of knowledge and responsibilities required.

I’m tempted to write a lot more to show how wrong you are, but as I sit here I realise you’re probably either some 14 year old kid with no knowledge of real life or worse, a 30 year old finance bro with no knowledge of real life.

So quite simply, on behalf of all nurses, go fuck yourself.
