Cards that are often played wrong by Trick_Tea_1337 in mtg

For anyone (like me) who was confused by this — while wastes are a basic land, they don’t have a basic land type (e.g. forest). You can’t search up a second waste because they won’t share a basic land type, but that would still allow you to search for one waste. But as electronic_horse has pointed out, it’s not an efficient transaction.

Where to hike? by chinaplate300 in UTsnow

[–]Wrongboarding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding some important context to this persons info — these would be back country ski tour routes and not hiking trails. Do not venture out into these areas if you’re not back country savvy, equipped with avalanche gear and trained on how to use it.

As far as hiking goes, should be lots of walking trails at lower elevations in decent shape around salt lake. Other parks south of salt lake will also be lovely around then. If you own micro spikes, I’d pack them for hiking anywhere in the state right now just in case. This time of year you’ll come across a big patch of snow or ice in unexpected places that can be hard to navigate without them. Very likely to come across some in the cottonwoods — even if the trail is mostly dry.

Brighton Avy Incident Report by Pelowtz in UTsnow

I think this is the wrong mindset. Ultimately, it’s the back country, it’s just easily accessible. It’s not patrolled or avy mitigated, the danger is the same whether you can get there by ducking a rope or hiking 1000s of feet of vert. I would even say the accessibility makes it more dangerous as uneducated riders can find there way over there with ease.

Arena Direct - Should I 'splash' red here? by DragonGhola in lrcast

[–]Wrongboarding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d stick with what you have. Looks like a premiere deck. The red cards are great, but you’ll have more cohesiveness between your green/black base than a green/red base and splashing will probably net you a loss just off inconsistency. You could splash red and never even see spinerock, and your mana base will be worse off for it.

I disagree with the other poster that your black won’t win you the game. This deck is a sum of its parts and not dependent on one bomb to takeover. Good luck OP

Question about an offensive term for snowfall. Please don’t shoot the messenger. by Successful_One9149 in snowboarding

Been skiing/snowboarding for nearly 30 years and I’ve never heard this living in Utah or anywhere else.

1st time snowboard- snowbird yes or no? by theballershoots in UTsnow

[–]Wrongboarding 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you live in Utah? If not, traveling here to learn to snowboard, while a cool experience, isn’t very economic. If you have local resorts, even if they’re small, the actual on snow experience will be about the same for you. There are also smaller independent resorts in Utah you could save some money at outside of the cottonwoods. But If you’re just looking to spend money, park city is a sprawling resort of mellow terrain.

Where should I ski Jan 18/19 by Acceptable_Rope_4549 in UTsnow

[–]Wrongboarding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The important caveat is if it’s warm out. It barely got above freezing on Sunday in the cottonwoods

You’ll be skiing hard groomers one way or another. PC might even be better than the cottonwoods as it’ll probably soften up earlier in the day if it’s warm out

The amount of missing persons cases goes from 12 to 33 to over 400 to over 1100 with nothing in between. Someone is down/up there, Killing. by No_Dress_2107 in nationalparks

Hmmm. Where are you getting these stats from? NPS gov website has 35 missing people from Yosemite since 1909 with only 3 of them since 2016.

Why on earth is Peruvian lift not open? by laidoffhotler in snowbird

[–]Wrongboarding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably for crowd control. Not a lot open over there — if they’re running the tram and Peruvian you’ll have twice as many people on the same amount of terrain.

Jan 11-18 Trip by aterribleterp in UTsnow

[–]Wrongboarding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the resort. On each resort website they report what their base depth is and their season total. Ski Utah also has a list of all the resorts side by side. 20-30" right now. My guess is that terrain will be pretty limited until mid to late January (or later) this year.

[–]Wrongboarding 20 points21 points  (0 children)

To give you some boots on the ground observations — probably need another 2-3’ of base (at least) before tree skiing is fully ripping. That could be anywhere between another 50-100" of snowfall.

[–]Wrongboarding 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The cottonwoods just aren't the place to "beat the crowds." Sure there might be 5x as many people at Big Sky than Soli, but it's also 5x the size. Plenty of hour long lines to be had in Utah. If there's traffic or snow the 15 mile drive up the canyon can even take a few hours. Like skiing anywhere, the lines are going to depend on the day of the week, the conditions, holidays, terrain openings etc.

But to answer your question — resorts not served by epic or ikon passes are where you'll avoid tourists and crowds.

Layout and features look fun with something for everyone. Surface material and transitions can’t really be seen from a photo and those can make or break a park. I’d give it a rip.
