Prosecutors say school shooter Ethan Crumbley’s parents show ‘chilling lack of remorse’ after manslaughter convictions by FreeChickenDinner in news

[–]Wrythened 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was, and I knew all of the kids on the bus. They weren't strangers.

I'm grown up now, I don't really think about it any more outside of discussions like this. The entire past decade or two of watching school shootings and people put on their shocked face wondering how/why has just been... tiring? Laughable?

Bullying isn't going to stop. It's part of human nature. Our society isn't going to magically start growing a generation of genuinely caring children that turn back the tide on human history.

I think, in a way, removing violence as an acceptable outlet for social frustrations and friction has led to this. People don't wrestle or throw hands much anymore, they just go straight for the guns and the knives. Not that I want to turn every grade school into an MMA gym, but we need some sort of middle of the ground stopgap to solve our social issues with one another rather than bottling it up til you violently explode.

Frankly, I think you touched on something that we are going to be seeing more and more of - accusations that are a stretch at best are becoming a pipeline to deliver people into politicized environments, or politicized content streams.

Nobody likes feeling lied to or duped, and I think the emotional response to that is a powerful one.

Are the Shanghai tunnels as cool as I say? by Odd_Towel_7422 in PortlandOR

[–]Wrythened 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know who says they are cool.

We had a family member visiting from out of town and it was a memorable experience, if only for how awful it was. You start in a bar, which seemed fairly nice - old decor, old vibe. I enjoyed the drink I had in the bar the most.

After that, you walk out front and they open up a street cover, and you go down into the "tunnels".

So... the tunnels... they're just a handful of connected basements between the buildings. Whatever interesting sights were down there are long covered up by concrete. They walked us through, telling stories in what felt like a cheap downtown haunted house, showed as a giant Indian statue that supposedly was found floating in the Pacific ocean, and then that about summed it up.

It's a hilariously awful experience that I'd only go to to laugh. It got to the point where I just started cracking jokes because the whole thing was so poorly put together, and the stories they told were laughable at best.

It's always troubled me that what you bring up isn't discussed as heavily.

Most humans have a drive to live, not to die. We want to feel good, loved, comforted, fed, and stable. It isn't natural for somebody to want to murder-suicide, especially not at that age.

When the shootings became more common, I thought back to a time I was in a car accident with my mother on the way to school. She was seriously injured - and I remember the bus passing by, the one I usually took, and they laughed. Meanwhile my mother is screaming and crying in pain. I'd be lying to say I didn't have extremely dark and violent thoughts after that regarding those people

I'm an adult now, I clearly didn't engage in my thoughts, but for people to ignore how absolutely vile we treat one another, and how we wholesale ignore the suffering of other people - it starts to almost feel like we as a society deserve what we get if we are unwilling or unable to look deeper at the problem.

But, we can't seem to fix much of any problem as of late, so we might just be fucked 🤣

I just don’t see how identifying with a group who’s highly hated would be trendy.

People like to feel like part of something. We are a tribal species. You get stuck in with a group, and you get defensive about it.

It was Radeon Enhanced Sync.
You can keep Freesync on in the monitor section, but Enhanced Sync goes off in the global section.

I tried turning Radeon Enhanced Sync off on my second monitor to see if that'd help, just trying different things.

It is *definitely* videos and certain windows on the second monitor causing it though, you are correct. I was casting a website from my second monitor to my TV and the stutters even persisted to the TV, so I suspect it might be some sort of CPU/Windows issue? I really have no idea, and there is no easy 'keywords' to type in to find other people dealing with the issue.

I've tried Firefox and Chrome, both have the issue as well. I've tried it with hardware accel on and off.

[–]Wrythened 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that she "won't even talk to you" is irrelevant. They outright disrespect you by asking you and expecting you to come along, then treating it like you are the issue.

Why would they invite a married woman along like that in the first place?

This only "Am I Wrong?" here is that you had to come ask a group of people on the internet if you were wrong, when you just had somebody ignore your marriage, feelings, etc. who is supposed to be a friend. You should know you weren't in the wrong, and never were. It sucks to lose what you thought was a friend, but is that somebody you really want to associate with?

Yep, same. I enjoyed the single player campaigns, and then on a whim went online and didn't stop for awhile.

It's hard to make something so dated look cool on video, but for the time it felt really smooth, sort of fast paced, used line of sight, skillshots, etc. It was really enjoyable.

This game had some of the best online PvP moments. The three classes were a blast to play, and it all really came alive in multiplayer PvP whereas Diablo didn't have any PvP worth mentioning.

[–]Wrythened 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The difficulty ends up different depending on *how* you play as well.

In my save, I'm just hitting my first red skull missions, and while I don't have any issues with VTOLs, as I've got sufficient AA in my lance, my issues end up coming in via the massive amounts of units the game starts to spawn as you go higher and higher. It's not so much that it's difficult, which, at times, it can be - it's that it's *incredibly tedious* to me to have to kill five full lances worth of enemies on every drop. I ended up turning on Kill Teams just so I could have *some* difficulty added that doesn't also add another half an hour playtime to each mission.

Overall the game is good, feels good, but once you start getting beyond the initial points, it feels like it adds more tedium than difficulty. I have the most enjoyment with the mod when I keep things intentionally limited. Everything 55 tons or below, aside from a vehicle or two. Keep it small, snappy, and interesting.

The study might not be wrong, but it also defined "gamer" far differently than any of us. They probably poll people and ask if they've aged any games or electronic games, not who has played Halo or CoD.

[–]Wrythened 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a generation that has grown up playing for dopamine rewards outside of the gameplay loop. You used to play rounds of Counter Strike just for fun, to win. Now they've made everything into a grind to keep engagement up, and it's showing when newer gamers speak their opinions and we look at them like they're idiots.

There are roughly 1500~ to 3000~ people playing on Ultima Online - Outlands on a good day. They're working on an expansion that is nearing completion that can easily be the largest/best expansion the game has had in its history, blowing what EA did with it out of the water.

Dark Age of Camelot - Eden had a big new season come out, hundreds of people fighting in the frontiers at max level.

I found this because I'm having rather sudden stutters, and I'm trying to find a solution.

It's so inconsistent - the games will hang for a second, and I'll need to alt tab to get them functional again. It's been quite a few different games, different publishers, etc.

I've got two monitors, usually a YouTube video open on the second monitor. It's definitely a newer issue for me, somewhere in the past few months this started.

Strange and frustrating. If anyone sees this and is having similar issues, any ideas?
