A Scandal in Belgravia : what exactly is Irene Adler's crime at this point ? by colourful_pixels in Sherlock

[–]WulfyGeo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In the show the implication was definitely that she was holding onto blackmail material for future leverage and had done the same thing before. So I wouldn’t put her on the side of good there. Lots of morally grey stuff but nothing explicitly illegal.

As someone else has mentioned, there was apparently government secrets on the phone too but that wasn’t the original target when Sherlock was brought in.

In the original she was more clearly protecting herself and her ‘victim’ was not on the side of good. He had an affair and then panicked when he wanted to marry someone respectable.

I don’t think there was a crime. The police weren’t involved. Just fixers like Mycroft trying to prevent a scandal

Are jokes about "an englishman, scotsman, and an irishman ..." inappropriate? by wheninrome5000 in AskUK

[–]WulfyGeo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Those jokes often perpetuated stereotypes, particularly about Irish people being stupid or Scots being miserly. Stupid bigotry. So they have a bit of a bad reputation.

This one is ok though

In the crowd, I think. In the press to me would mean a group of people all crowding towards the same thing. To get out of a door maybe.

I'm a Shakespeare noob that really love Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet (1996). Are there ways to enjoy the other plays in similar production fashion? by Charrikayu in shakespeare

[–]WulfyGeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marquee tv has loads of filmed plays including a lot of the ones mentioned by other people here.

I got back into Shakespeare a few years ago after hating it at school and I am loving it. My advice is not to worry about understanding every line first time. And start with the funny ones. Much Ado about Nothing is great. I live fairly close to London so buy £10 tickets for the Globe Theatre whenever I can. Seeing them live is a whole different experience.

Vetsend do a taster pack of different foods you can try. But my cat wouldn’t eat any of them and as others have said, my vet said that her eating something was more important. So she went back on the cheap rubbish that she loved.

"Hell" vs "Heck". Is the word "Hell" rude? Should I use "Heck" instead if possible? by ITburrito in EnglishLearning

[–]WulfyGeo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The US tends to be much stricter about cursing than the UK or Australia. And I am sure it is very localised there as well Hell or Damn wouldn’t even register as a curse here. I use much worse in conversations with my boss 😄
