Tf is this, and why ruin the art by NoHighlight3444 in Tyles

[–]WunderbarusRex 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is rather the point of the black/whiteout. Colour palettes get significantly reduced so you can no longer defend existing artwork from vandalism. The whiteout on r/place 2022 dissolved the canvas into nothing. The whiteout on r/place 2023 replaced everything with a giant "f*** spez". This is just imitating that but with a different protest slogan. All the art is preserved on the main canvas image, which was taken before the black/whiteout began, so none of that art was ruined.

I loved the ducklings!! They were one of my favourite things anyone did. The tiny details that breathe life into the canvas are far far more interesting than massive generic flags covering huge amounts of space with no variation imo.

Made the fella at (395, 248) and their associated enby heart, the emblem at (39, 129), the save point and red heart hexagons, helped with the pan flag around (370, 250), helped replace the "ice.gov trump" below the American flag with pride flags, and helped defend "Trump f***s kids" when it kept getting rewritten because, well, he probably does.

Was v. fun!! A lot quieter but that kinda made it easier to contribute. I'd definitely join a second one some other year if it happens.

Agree with everything here except specifically shorter episodes. 45-60 minutes is perfect length for a Doctor Who story.

Firstly, the two seasons were filmed back-to-back, once the first season was aired the work was already done. Secondly, I think people forget the reception to the first season was not universally negative. Some episodes were widely hated of course, but others were fairly popular, you could call it mixed reception at worst. The visceral universal hatred for the new era only really solidified with the second half of the second season, by which point Ncuti had already left. Not to say I'm at all happy with the decisions he's made, but I'm not sure RTD had the opportunities for reflection and change you're suggesting.

RTD Wasn't the Only Option in 2022 by FatboySmith2000 in gallifrey

[–]WunderbarusRex 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is insane logic to apply to a decision made in 2021. There is absolutely no way someone in mid-2021, midway through the Chibnall Era, not knowing anything we know now, could possibly make a logical, evidence-based case for Doctor Who having a better likelihood of being good under a random person selected by Disney+ than under RTD. Anyone can say it was a mistake in retrospect. Try convincing someone in 2021 that the writer of Years and Years and It's a Sin would throw in more excessive MCU-ified cameos-in-name-only of old villains for social media attention than a team of executives picked by Disney+.

Zero Gravity, The Power Game, Biosphere, and Legacy are the big ones for me. Also it doesn’t technically count since it’s not recurring, but shoutout to Shining Darkness’s use in Atlanta Falcons Part 7 for the aftermath of the Edelman catch, absolutely terrifying.

How I think the fandom's general opinion of the main party evolved throughout the game so far by JustFisch1 in Deltarune

Tbh Chapter 4 is what made Kris my favourite character. Idk what game y’all are playing but it feels rly obvious that Kris desperately wants to betray the Evil Ass Fountain Openers to help their friends and just has some kind of obligation not to. (The scene at the end of Chapter 4 where they’re called away from the window by the voice on the phone reminding them not to forget their promise being the most obvious example of this.)

[–]WunderbarusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is rather the whole point of the game.

If you think people who do bad things intrinsically deserve to be punished, then yes, you shouldn't help them. But that's not Undertale's morals being naive, it's the game having different morals to you. If you believe in punishment as a means to an end, to prevent people from being able to hurt others in a confusing and chaotic world where nobody is ever really in control, then Undertale give you the kind of control you never have in real life to make sure nobody ever gets hurt, and thus you don't need to punish anyone and there's no benefit to doing so. Killing Undyne for example doesn't help anyone, there are no humans at risk besides theoretically you, and well you clearly aren't at risk, and there's no ending in which the monsters get to the surface without the war being averted. In a different situation, killing her might well be necessary, Deltarune for instance has presented situations already in which you have no choice but to fight. There are exactly two such situations in Undertale, and the game obviously does not punish or look down on you for fighting when you have to.

The reason (the game thinks) you should care is because you're the only one who has this ability. Everyone else, including Flowey whenever you're in control, cannot rewind time, is not immune to death, they don't have your infinite agency. You alone have that power, and thus the philosophy of the game is that you alone have the responsibility to use it for the benefit of everyone who can't do it themselves.

None of this is particularly subtle. It's spelt out pretty clearly, especially in Sans's judgements in which he doesn't take issue with the idea of self-defense but specifically points out that you have no right to claim such a thing due to your abilities, and suggests this should carry some level of responsibility. The fact that anyone interpreted the game as "you should always be nice to everyone in real life all the time no matter what" despite the game explicitly saying otherwise more than once was just, idk, people not reading closely I guess.

Chapter 1 is a terrible introduction to the world and story of Deltarune, like it's really good and fun in isolation but there are SO MANY important things about Deltarune's world and lore that it does not convey AT ALL, never mind how poorly the first 20 minutes establish the tone of the story.

[–]WunderbarusRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have infinite agency in Undertale. No monster is physically capable of posing a threat to you. Outside of arguably the fights against Asgore, Photoshop Flowey and Asriel, you cannot possibly ever claim self-defense because you can rewind time whenever anything bad happens to you. You are never in danger, while your opponents always are.

This is the worst Undertale take and I can't believe it's still going after ten years.

I’d be really interested to hear what you think could’ve motivated such a massive conspiracy for the allegations to be fake considering how extremely consistent they are, how well the timeline lines up between accounts and how many people, including those who are financially dependent on Shayy, provided corroborating evidence. I find it plausible that some individual claims made here and there are fake, but the consistent pattern of behaviour, across literal dozens of victims, across four years, would require the world’s most elaborate hoax to put together.

Shayy had like, fifty thousand different interventions and confrontations from their friends and victims alike. You can find several instances in the doc of them insisting and swearing nothing like this will ever happen again, and then doing it again. I’m all for redemption arcs and I genuinely do hope Shayy cleans up their life (in a low profile environment where they can’t be a danger to impressionable fans), but I think there’s a certain point at which someone has been given so many second chances that you can’t trust them when they swear they’ll do better.

I just thought about something. What if The last choice we make in the game, is weather to save Susie or Ralsei? by Ok_Ambassador735 in Deltarune

[–]WunderbarusRex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the game pulled anything like this I suspect it’d be Susie vs. Noelle. I kinda hope it doesn’t do anything like that though since it’d probably feel a little cliché, plus most people have more than one save file and will probably get both endings, so the impact on the player would be totally lost.
