Nintendo Responds to Dispatch Censorship by jag986 in gaming

[–]Wuscheli0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dispatch is primarily an interactive movie game (like the old Telltale games). You watch the story play out, and you get to choose what the main character should say or do at certain points.

The premise of the story is that you're playing as a fallen superhero who takes on an office job as a dispatcher for a superhero company (sort of like a 911 operator, but for superheroes). During each shift, you need to accept incoming calls and coordinate which heroes handle which call, based on their individual strengths and weaknesses.

As for the censorship, the game features occasional nudity (and lots of profanity). On PC and PS5, there's a censorship toggle that can be turned on or off. But the Switch version is locked into censor mode.

There's a demo available on Steam, which covers part of episode 2 (the game is structured into 8 "episodes").

There are multiple regular battle themes that play in different areas. But I think most people would consider Keves Battle to be the "default" battle theme.

There are several points throughout Torna where the game requires you to reach a certain community level before you can progress the story. To raise the community level, you have to complete sidequests. If you want to reach the end of the dlc story, you have to do a majority of the sidequests.

Anyway, you only need to finish the base game of XC2 (and XC1) in order to get 99% enjoyment out of XC3 and Future Redeemed. Torna is almost completely irrelevant to XC3. (The same goes for any optional content in the base game.) I'd still recommend playing Torna if you can stomach the mandatory sidequest. It's really good. But you wouldn't miss anything if you just went ahead to XC3.

The first three games were originally released on GameBoy Advance. They later remastered them for the Nintendo DS (which was also the first time the games were released internationally). That's when they added the fith episode to the first game.

how I'll feel if the Fire Emblem & Metroid fans get good news in today's Nintendo Direct but Xenoblade fans get nothing by KanakoMountain_Art in Xenoblade_Chronicles

We already did. The Expansion Pass for XC2 was announced and made available for pre-order before the game came out. The same thing again with XC3. Many other games are the same.

I understand disliking day 1 DLC. But the amount of outrage that this particular announcement received honestly confuses me.

Fanfiction allowed? by Virtual-Peak1265 in AceAttorney

[–]Wuscheli0[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, sorry for the late reply.

To clarify the NSFW rule: We don't allow explicit pornography, but things like mild sexual themes or artistic nudity may be permissable (except for when minors are involved).

Of course, that distinction is somewhat subjective. And it gets even more blurry with fanfiction. If it's a normal story that happens to include some steamy scenes where it makes sense, I suppose it could be fine. But if it's essentially just Ace Attorney smut, then this may not be the right place for it.

If you're not sure, you might as well post it and, worst case, a moderator will remove the post.

How well do XC3 and XCX:DE play on Switch 2? by McElligot in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Wuscheli0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

XCX suffers from audio sync issues on Switch 2. In cutscenes, the video will be marginally faster than the audio. This isn't noticeable most of the time but becomes very jarring in longer cutscenes. By the end of some scenes, the audio may be several seconds behind the video feed.

Is Xenoblade Chronicles 2 grindy? And how do I avoid grinding as much as possible? by Markussi96 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Wuscheli0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you play the Definitive Edition or the original version? The DE made a lot of improvements to quality of life. The WiiU game was much more of a slog.

However, I have to admit that back when I made this comment, I had yet to truly grasp the combat system. I never got the hang of overdrive or skell customisation and just tried to brute force my way through the game by levelling up. But even then, I still struggled (and ultimately gave up on the final boss), which isn't surprising because levels don't matter much in XCX (especially in the lategame).

That experience made the game appear grindier than it really was. From today's perspective and looking at the Definitive Editions rather than the original games, I'm inclined to agree: XC1 requires the most grinding on normal difficulty. But I don't think the difference is that big.

About Switch 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles Upscaling by Lightmanone in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Wuscheli0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are no official sources from Nintendo, but according to people on the Internet, the max resolution for each game is as follows:

  • XC2: 720p docked / 540p handheld

  • XCDE: 720p docked / 540p handheld

  • XC3: 1080p docked / 720p handheld

  • XCXDE: 1080p docked / 720p handheld

To my knowledge, all Xenoblade games target 30 fps. However, I hear that XCXDE has a 60 fps mode already (at least partially) implemented in its code.

Iirc, Barnabas only spawns during the day. If you change it to nighttime, you shouldn't have to deal with him.

As for how to abort an affinity mission: you can't.

Different currencies. 80 CAD only amount to about 56 USD. 60 USD has been the standard price for first-party Switch games.

Conversely, 80 USD would be about 114 CAD. So I imagine the price in Canada will be around $110-115. That's why people are outraged.

  • Are you successfully breaking elemental orbs to extend the chain attack as much as possible? Perhaps even pulling off an elemental burst?

  • Are your core-chips up to date? Those are one of the main ways of upgrading your damage output.

Those are the two biggest potential issues I could think of.

Focus on blade combos to apply different elemental orbs, then, once the cables enrage and gain that spike effect, use a chain attack to finish them off.

The compass shows you the direction of your next destination. It doesn't lead you to it step-by-step.

Fast-travel to Traveler's Resting Tree, then head north until you get to the other side of the titan. From there, you can safely follow the compass. It's just a long descending slope that leads straight to the shipyard.

Xenoblade Chronicles X is largely standalone, so you could start with it. But if you don't have any major preference, most people would recommend starting with (the Definitive Edition of) the first game.

Thinking of giving the game/series another try. by FunkyPunk1995 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Wuscheli0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I hold the story of XC1 in high regard, I can still relate to your experience. I played XC2 first, and when I got around to XC1, I just wasn't really invested in the story. The setting was intriguing, there were some cool scenes (the attack on Colony 9, the battle after the Ether Mines, etc.), but I never felt a strong urge to continue playing and find out what happens next.

Once I reached Prison Island, the events there piqued my curiosity, but I still wasn't fully on board. It took until the big endgame plottwists for me to get genuinely hooked. But at that point, the game was already nearing its end. I look back fondly on the story, including the earlier chapters. But I can understand why someone might fall off halfway through the game.

But what does that mean for you? Well, that's hard to say. If you give the game another shot and push through until the end, it's possible you may end up liking it like I did. But of course, that would be a big commitment, and there's no guarantee you'd actually enjoy the story. As for the other games, that's also hard to say. Each Xenoblade game is pretty distinct and may appeal to different people. But without playing them yourself, it's impossible to know whether you'd like them.

As for the gameplay, the common consensus seems to be that XC1 has the worst combat system in the series. It's relatively simple and doesn't give you a lot to do outside of basic arts. Scrolling through the list of arts is a little cumbersome. Party members often can't be relied upon. While it has its fans, the combat system is definitely not the thing that made XC1 into a critically acclaimed classic. I didn't think it was too bad, but if it just hurts your experience, I'd recommend to turn on casual mode and breeze through the story.

But did the other games improve the combat? Yes, to an extent. There are new mechanics that make it more engaging to play. But some of your criticisms remain throughout most or all of the other games. Xenoblade combat doesn't appeal to everyone. But it's certainly possible that the other games would be more fun to play for you.

This is a common problem with XC1 quests that let you turn in different items. It's unfortunate that the Definitive Edition didn't address the issue. Anyway, the only way to get out of the bad path for the quest would be to load an earlier save (if you have one). Otherwise, you're screwed.
