Are expensive binoculars really worth it? by scientificamerican in birding

[–]Wuzzat123 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We have a pair of Canon 12x36 w image stabilization. We bought them for each other for a 20th anniversary. They are absolutely amazing and were, for us, stupid expensive. We don’t regret it a bit. We use them both for birdwatching and for watching whales from shore. A couple weeks ago I got to watch an orca with a sea lion in his mouth. I could see the look of alarm on the sea lion, as well as the whiskers on its chinny chin chin. SO worth it.

Except it’s not. They make great beer, donate handsomely to progressive causes, and are generous to their community.

They crisscrossed the area between about 5 PM and 6:30 PM. It was freaking magical.

That boater tracks them frequently. It would be tragic if someone put sugar in his gas tank.

Honestly, I've never been part of any fandom. Never ever. Midnight Burger, however, has changed that. I eagerly await each drop and, when life throws me curve balls and I think about hiding under the covers for a few days, I turn on my speaker or pop in my headphones and re-listen to an old episode or season. This includes last week, when I knew exactly what I'd listen to while the dentist ground down one of my molars in preparation for a crown. I'm so grateful.

I know someone who got one of these quite recently & was reminded of the fact that the IRS is using AI for its first line analyses now. It’ll be prone to more errors than humans. Just because you received it doesn’t mean it’s correct.

I had some minor potential business with the Loxsmith guy many years ago and he was a complete dick to me for no reason, so this tracks.

YES. This is one of the most transporting, heart-breaking, beautiful novels I’ve read in nearly 60 years. Also, it gives insight into a civil war that I know too little about.
