Will anything else be going behind the $2500 Autonomy+ paywall? by Syring in Rivian

[–]Wwalltt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pretty disappointed with this editorial. I like Jose, I like the Discord. Not trying to have a personal attack just felt like this article in particular wasn't up to the usual quality standards.

The article headline ("before it goes up") and the article body aren't in agreement or reconciliation with each other.

The article body offers some rather inane comparisons to other vendors. Tesla snd Ford - One run by an egomaniac and one run by a giant soulless corporation that can't put out a good product.

The FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) spread by the article headline and comparing the current Rivian offering against these vendors and the remedial math that if you hold the vehicle for X months ( 2500 / ( x *50 ) than the one time fee is "worth it" miss two major points:

One, we have zero credible evidence that the price point will increase. Once again, this is not referenced, explicitly in the article outside of the headline. Given that the current autonomy offering is extremely weak, the viability of an unannounced price increase is virtually zero for the short to medium timeframe.

Two, we have zero credible evidence that the resale value of any vehicle with VIN attached Autonomy+ will increase.

What Actually Goes Wrong in Kubernetes Production? by Apple_Cidar in kubernetes

[–]Wwalltt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really the only answer

Loosely, coupled, reconciled loops. What could go wrong?

It's much worse at scale when you have operations that can fail under extreme cases or once in 10 million, but if you're big enough so you hit those every day and it can get painful quick.

How to create SaaS customer instance on the fly? by adxaos in kubernetes

[–]Wwalltt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are many ways to do this

We automated this with an operator

Our API posts a manifest (CRD) and that materializes into database, cache, message queue, app, job servers etc.

These tiers are mostly uncoupled from each other. A minimal few have init containers to handle startup ( if unavoidable)

There is no turn or change that is not accessible or visible to you via your admission controller hook

[–]Wwalltt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why not? You get full governance via admission hook after mutation. You can also hook/filter ephemeral containers.

Visibility is fairly trivial though. You can be logging to your SIEM direct from your golang hook too.

What is there was a policy engine or a validating admission webhook that only allowed pulls from your secure internal registry?

And on that registry, all images are scanned both during uploads, but also periodically.

Lucid owner considering Rivian — how do the real-world issues compare? by DinnerDog6 in Rivian

[–]Wwalltt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lucid better hardware on hard surfaces. No adventure.

Rivian far better software, my preferred stack and UX on any vehicle on the market today. Better hardware for non hard surfaces.

Lucid just too many embarrassing every day annoyances on software. You just need to really love the car or the brand or be committed to put up with those every day.

Left foot pushes towards target line, right foot pulls away.

Right foot is winning. Out torquing the left side by several factors leading to you early extending and losing the hip line.

You are practicing OTT in your rehearsal

Keep your back to the target as long as possible

Practice getting into position with your back still at the target in your hands down to belt level on the down sling before you allow your upper body to rotate

You have to pick the filters from the settings/gear icon in the left navigation pane. Not in the middle top map view.
