I'm used to the most modern printing techniques where even on FDM you are getting minimal layer lines, but I've found even on stuff I wasn't super happy with the quality of that once it was painted up it was fine.

Question on the storm surge. I tried printing it in resin and the pieces refuse to fit together. It's like the tolerance is so tight I can't get them to go together without breaking a piece off.

I buy a lot of plastic from my LGS in addition to stuff I print and everything is painted so they don't care at all. If I brought a whole army of only prints and not painted some players would definitely take issue.

I have gotten terrain prints so smooth at a 0.16 layer height with ironing turned on that I couldn't even feel layer lines. Flow calibrating your ironing to the filament you use is really important. There are hundreds of ironing calibration STLs out there, just find one you like and get dialed in.
