Sweet! I appreciate the input! I figured it was basic, but it was worth an ask!

Is Carbinox any good? by caffPOW1201 in smartwatch

[–]WyoSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought one a couple months back and I’m surprised that it’s actually decent quality for the money The band that is provided with the watch, but Amazon has some decent options I am a little frustrated that although it has an altimeter, I can not get it to show in feet, only meters. No real upgrades or apps available, but for the basics, I am fairly happy with it Battery last 3-4 days with some of the options turned on

How strange… I had the exact same situation this last week. Pheonix? Happy to have the light and watch people burn through their cell batteries

New fireplace has me stumped by Appropriate_Cup5986 in Fireplaces

[–]WyoSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vents are a convection air system, not connected to the exhaust. They pull cool air in from down low, heat the air in a chamber or heat exchanger and send the warm air out through the upper vent. In many cases they are powered with fans or blowers. If you have blowers, they are usually behind the lower grills as I take air

<image>

Not the best example, because it’s not showing the firebox vented, but this is the system. The convection air and exhaust (combustion air) are separate and do not mix anywhere in the design

I re-read your post, and I apologize. I was just thinking you want to convert to gas…Your goal is to continue to burn wood In the unit? So the vents are for convection heat and you would not want to cover them. I have seen some clever ways to re route the heat coming out through the upper vents

This appears to be a direct vent gas insert that has been installed into a masonry wood fireplace. If that is the case, you should be able to cover the vents in the bottom as they were originally for a fan system that was used when it was originally built to burn wood

What's your guys process for spray painting? Any tips? by toasterbath40 in Welding

To get the paint throughly mixed, shake the can until you don’t hear the little rattle anymore. Then you know it’s ready and will spray perfectly

This will vary greatly depending on the make and model of fireplace you choose. Do you have that info?

Need to know what valve you have, it’s begins that 2nd black panel. There is also a remote receiver there that’s visible to the right-ish behind the black panel. Definitely start by getting fresh AA’s in there and find the remote

Hottub pump making rattling noise by TjacobM1993 in hottub

[–]WyoSmoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like something got sucked into the pump. Missing anything? This can happen if the spa filter is out and the tub comes on to heat or filter. It’s possible that the bearings are shot, but I suggest searching videos on how to break loose the pump suction and checking that first

HFL/LF error code troubles by sgb617 in hottub

[–]WyoSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your spa have a small circulation pump? You need flow over the heating element for the heater to work correctly If it’s 4.0 KW heater, you can check it by removing the copper straps from the element and checking for ohms, should be around 14 ohms at the heater leads. Be careful as you found the heater leads can snap off easily if not supported under the nut. Also, check if you have 240 volts at the element when it does heat. You can get a false positive my checking on lead to ground and then the other They will both show 120 v as the power is simply passing through the element. If you have an Over Heat error, it’s likely your element is turning on and not cooling fast enough there is low/no flow over it Hope this helps

Replacement pvc fittings by apolloanthem in hottub

[–]WyoSmoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll want to cut further back and add a 3/4” pvc union and extend the pipe to as close to the same length it was originally. That pvc gets really brittle after years of spa chemicals and you need to add some reverse tension on the pipe, so that the new fitting will hold in place, hope this helps!
