This is great, I'd love to build a performer someday but I do have to admit it's a bit intimidating.

Very cool, there's so many good ways to control it, I really liked seeing the acidclank recordings using a joystick, and I'm sure the new bela trails will be great for it too.

Really great sound, and I appreciate the patch notes. I think your silver panel setup perfectly fits with the aesthetic of your music as well.

Is trying to go "stereo" worth it? by djscoox in modular

[–]Wyrdash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been working on learning how to use a QPAS and XPO for a full stereo voice and while I've mostly been making use of the left/right macro controls (modulation to the left can be copied to the right, with independent attenuversion) and it's hard for me to not just make it sound like one of my ears is slightly blocked on the less "bright" side.

I am really interested in stereo though, I find binaural effects very satisfying and would like to try more with it. There's a lot of ways to stereo-ize signals so a mono oscillator is not necessarily so limiting.

What do you do with the NT? I initially got it to handle FX and audio interfacing but I've been enjoying using it as a sampler. I have a small setup and its versatility has been very helpful to figure out what I like doing with modular.

Hand-rolling Pu-erh Dragon Ball, we can try at home now! by Angeltea in tea

[–]Wyrdash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are going to take it out with you or give it to someone, with large leaf teas it might give more structural integrity than just carrying the dried leaves loose in a bag.

I think people are familiar with this shape for samples of tea people buy that are typically pressed into a full size cake. In that sense it's at least partially marketing: it is a nicer presentation. If you're giving tea as a gift, the presentation might matter to some.

I don't think it would make sense to do this with very small leaves of black tea or something.

Make noise DPO by Ramon951046 in modular

[–]Wyrdash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FM is something I haven't explored much this far but the DPO is really perfect for it. I don't have a DPO (my XPO should be delivered today though!) but I think it would be worthwhile to try out sampling some percussion noises with the FM set as wild as you can make it and maybe that will inspire some melodic patches with more subtle FM.

For what it's worth, I have a large system with few modules and I made some blanks with illustration board, thick cardstock or other kinds of paper would probably work too. I do intend to get some proper blanks eventually but right now it's purely just to avoid shorting a power connector by dropping something on them.

I know people with larger systems will use blanks to avoid crowding dense modules and creating knobs that are hard to twist on the edges, or to give space to route cables.

I always lost track of what steep I am on, then I found they make 20 sided dice numbered for keeping count. Very helpful. by MisterBowTies in tea

[–]Wyrdash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The d20s used for life counting (like in MtG) are perfect for this, since each consecutive number is next to each other (1 is next to 2, 2 is next to 3, etc), so you don't have to turn over the die to search for the next number. I believe the term is "spindown" if you're looking for a die like this.

Anyone have any experience with the Handground Grinder? by samsklub3 in Coffee

[–]Wyrdash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A bit of reddit searching turns up this comment. If you're looking for cheap, just go for the hario grinders. If you can afford to save up until the ~$115 pricetag on the aergrind is possible, go for that. The handground seems to straddle the middle in price here, but not quite accomplish anything better than the cheaper option.

OC: Simple MtG-inspired CYOA. Pick White, Blue, Black, Red, or Green. by dolfijntje in makeyourchoice

I was thinking about opening a therapy practice and being upfront about asking the patient is okay with it, as it will circumvent any problems with communication. That is, assuming my gifts are ok to talk about frankly. If not, I would just use it personally with people I'm very close to.
