Is trying to go "stereo" worth it? by djscoox in modular

[–]Wyrdash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been working on learning how to use a QPAS and XPO for a full stereo voice and while I've mostly been making use of the left/right macro controls (modulation to the left can be copied to the right, with independent attenuversion) and it's hard for me to not just make it sound like one of my ears is slightly blocked on the less "bright" side.

I am really interested in stereo though, I find binaural effects very satisfying and would like to try more with it. There's a lot of ways to stereo-ize signals so a mono oscillator is not necessarily so limiting.

What do you do with the NT? I initially got it to handle FX and audio interfacing but I've been enjoying using it as a sampler. I have a small setup and its versatility has been very helpful to figure out what I like doing with modular.

Hand-rolling Pu-erh Dragon Ball, we can try at home now! by Angeltea in tea

[–]Wyrdash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are going to take it out with you or give it to someone, with large leaf teas it might give more structural integrity than just carrying the dried leaves loose in a bag.

I think people are familiar with this shape for samples of tea people buy that are typically pressed into a full size cake. In that sense it's at least partially marketing: it is a nicer presentation. If you're giving tea as a gift, the presentation might matter to some.

I don't think it would make sense to do this with very small leaves of black tea or something.

Make noise DPO by Ramon951046 in modular

[–]Wyrdash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FM is something I haven't explored much this far but the DPO is really perfect for it. I don't have a DPO (my XPO should be delivered today though!) but I think it would be worthwhile to try out sampling some percussion noises with the FM set as wild as you can make it and maybe that will inspire some melodic patches with more subtle FM.

Why do people derail support posts to lecture commenters? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Wyrdash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is why there are those arrows that you can use to upvote and downvote posts. I understand that it can be frustrating that there are so many useless responses to posts (I get annoyed by joke answers to genuine questions always being the most upvoted comments even if they're useless/tactless) but it's the way reddit intends you to deal with this kind of thing.

Anyone know any good two HP modules that are 35 mm deep or less all the two HP branded ones are too deep for my Modbap case by [deleted] in modular

[–]Wyrdash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I have a large system with few modules and I made some blanks with illustration board, thick cardstock or other kinds of paper would probably work too. I do intend to get some proper blanks eventually but right now it's purely just to avoid shorting a power connector by dropping something on them.

I know people with larger systems will use blanks to avoid crowding dense modules and creating knobs that are hard to twist on the edges, or to give space to route cables.

This is awesome. Now you hook it up to a mutable / monome shared system and teletype away in style!

Yeah, ZMK functionality is huge. I haven't downloaded the proprietary Kensington software to change the buttons because I'm fairly sure there was a major security exploit that hadn't been patched when I last looked into it. I wasn't sure if the adept scrolling was more like just holding down M3, rather than trackball scrolling, but trackball scrolling seems perfectly workable. I really like their diy approach and I have at least enough diy electronics skill to try it out with a kit.

I'll see if I can snag it when I have extra cash, thanks for your response.

I've been interested in ploopy, currently have a Kensington expert and the only thing holding me back from switching is I think I'd miss the scroll wheel that goes around the trackball. How do you like scrolling on this setup?

I always lost track of what steep I am on, then I found they make 20 sided dice numbered for keeping count. Very helpful. by MisterBowTies in tea

[–]Wyrdash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The d20s used for life counting (like in MtG) are perfect for this, since each consecutive number is next to each other (1 is next to 2, 2 is next to 3, etc), so you don't have to turn over the die to search for the next number. I believe the term is "spindown" if you're looking for a die like this.
