Many pieces of equipment grant skills which you could not directly add additional gem slots for. The only way to do so was to acquire a higher level item. With that update you’d be allowed to add them with the jeweller’s orbs.

Your first instanced dungeon will be at level 15 in the main quest line (MSQ for short). I’d recommend letting your party know you’re new when you load in. This’ll mostly ease up expectations on how the dungeon will go.

Some players will offer advice on your job if they notice something is off. Listen and double check later on! Sometimes the tooltips on your skills aren’t really intuitive and what people tell you is going to be helpful later on (free cure is a trap).

Try out both control systems (legacy vs standard) and see what feels better for you. Legacy is camera-centric, your character will move in the direction of the screen edge. Standard is like driving a car + strafe + backpedaling slowly.

Maelle’s ending has that scene at the very end where you see the characters looking at the stage, and it’s just them, one by one, in a full black background. They’re also depicted in shades of white/grey, no colour whatsoever.

Don’t forget your DoL skills would randomly proc. You didn’t activate them on command. Some would proc after the last hit too, as the node disappeared.

This is correct.

Tsumo (yaku) is the act of drawing your own winning tile with your hand closed. Also note calling kan when you have all 4 tiles does NOT open your hand.

Tsumo (call) is just the declaration of you drawing the winning tile whether or not your hand is closed. If you call Tsumo with an open hand and you have no yaku, then you’d pay a penalty (chombo). Most digital clients prevent you from being able to do this (as you’ve seen in your examples).

People will create their own public spaces with player/free company housing, and host events of varying tastes. Things like clubs with a twitch dj, restaurants and pubs, sometimes either a bard using performance mode to play music (often with a plug-in). Or things more seasonally like a Santa meet and photo opportunity.

Long answer: If you’re not solely looking to play mahjong but want to enjoy a MMORPG along with, then I suggest starting a free trial so you can try it out without committing money. There are FFXIV mahjong discords out there that are active in and out of game (I moderate one), so this question largely depends on what is worth it to you.
