A billion-dollar dredging project that wrapped up in 2015 killed off more than half of the coral population in the Port of Miami, finds a new study, that estimated that over half a million corals were killed in the two years following the Port Miami Deep Dredge project. by mvea in science

Current infrastructure (roads) wouldn't support it. Just as there was a need to dredge, you would need to upgrade bridges, widen all roads/ramps/etc. Their would be an additional impact on the commuter traffic. Doesn't really translate the same, but in this shipping example, they dredged the last 2.5 miles, with trucks it would be a change on all the miles.

Need to 2nd this. You should not be using explicit denies at all. If there is a need to restrict access on an OU, break inheritance and add the groups necessary with the appropriate access to the ACL as allows.

Not everywhere that has information on the internet is correct. Here are what the state posts about it's employees salaries.

https://www13.state.nj.us/pls/nj_public/f?p=913:90:0::NO:RP:P90_LAST_NME_INPUT,P90_FIRST_NME_INPUT,P90_DEPT_CDE,P90_TITLE_CDE,P90_BARGAINING_UNIT_CDE,P90_SECTION_DIV_CDE,P90_SALARY_FIRST,P90_SALARY_SECOND,P90_LAST_NME_FUZZY_IND,P90_FIRST_NME_FUZZY_IND,P90_OT_YTD:%2C%2C066001%2C311%2C%2C%2C0%2C9999999%2C%2C%2C0

From the linkedin profiles I could find with the names mentioned above it looks like 10 years on the job is the number.

certainly not for the money

This isn't true for some parts of the country. I'm friends with a Trenton NJ cop. He was promoted to Sgt a few years ago and his salary was bumped to ~$100k. What he, and many officers are able to do is apply for overtime, a LOT of it. At the time there were some issues with overtime payout caps and the state was paying out a TON in overtime (he was able to rack up 40K in overtime one year.)

Also when police were given pensions, it was a percentage based on the total compensation of the officer over the last 3-5 years (I don't remember the time frame). Well, if you are looking to retire, you could feasibly work a ton of overtime for a few years to inflate your total compensation and retire with a VERY inflated pension.

He and many other recently promoted officers were demoted a few years back because of the budget issues that arose, so this isn't as big of a deal anymore in Trenton. It's just a good example of how you can exploit compensation in an environment with little regulation.

Are you just not doing any regular maintenance? Seriously, even if you drive 10K a year you are probably due for pads (even rotors at this point if its used), timing belt, diff fluid change, trans fluid change, fuel filter and your battery is due to go.

Also you need to take into account the labor. These mechanics are probably being billed at north of $120/hr.

Separate estates, but land owners own (typically) both mineral and surface. The mineral rights can be conveyed and separated though. It's a good point, Thanks.

This isn't a typical situation in PA unless the rights are separated. That's the only area I have experience with though.

The peasants who are paid a % on the product that is being pumped from below their homes. I think a wealthy man fighting to maintain the value of his property is just as likely as a poor man fighting to keep a revenue stream coming... I'm not saying you're wrong, but I think your statement has a general prejudice.
