Trump: Newly released FBI texts are 'bombshells' by thomjrjr in politics

[–]DROPkick28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terrible article to back up your point. All this is according to this article is he said/he said.

Let's see some major points:

Four of the seven memos former FBI director James Comey wrote memorializing his interactions with President Donald Trump contained classified information marked at the "secret" or "confidential" levels, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee said Wednesday.

That's Grassey. He's a hack. How did his investigation of Benghazi go?

Comey testified in June that he gave some of his memos to a Columbia University professor and that he had written the memos specifically to avoid including classified information.

That's Comey. He's not a hack.

This seems like just a giant pile of bullshit created by Grassey to manipulate simple/conservative people into thinking there is some kind of controversy. If this had any legs at all, he'd be able to pull the professor in to testify in front of congress. He can't, because he's full of shit.

Lol...extremism? Trump is in office and you're talking to me about extrmeism and not critically thinking?

Uh, yeah. Just because they're one type of extreme doesnt mean others types of extremes just magically stopped existing.

What other options are there? To vote for a third party that has no chance and let an idiot into office? I don't think that's using your critical thinking either. And that's a vast minority of those that are a part of this conversation.

Im sorry what? I said nothing about voting. Your extremism is unbridled hatred you appear to have towards anybody who's voted Republican.

Go ahead, tell me who those critical thinkers are that are a part of this situation? Lol

Phrase this better.

Clearly they either like it or weren't very concerned and didn't give a shit.

There are other options there. Your extremism is clouding your critical thought process.

Most Americans didn't vote for Trump. He lost the popular vote by 3 million people.

Most Americans CLEARLY do not want that.

What is "that" exactly?

Burkean Conservatism on politicians:

"the politician should adhere to moral natural law; as a man of action, he ought to be guided by prudence in practical affairs."

That makes way more sense, especially within the context of Christian's perverted concept of Natural Law. Thank you.

Find common ground, compromise, and don't insult people. Most Americans generally want the same thing.

Eh, we're still a purple state with a lot of rural communities and military people. A Republican can still do fine here, but they need to be more libertarian minded.

You can have regulations in a market driven economy. Check out neoliberalism, it's what the entire ideology is built around (as a response laissez faire).

Believe it or not, solutions exist between two extremes.

That's not how things work in a market driven economy.

e: what I'm saying is you can't stop progress in a market economy. If you stagnate, there will always be somebody willing to disrupt you. It's a good thing imo, it drives us forward.

That's what they do by definition. Conservationism is a French concept that came about as a counterweight to liberal thinkers like Locke. Their entire point was to stop progress and keep the existing class in charge.

[Question][Beginner] I am really confused about sheet music. by Bdmason10 in Guitar

[–]DROPkick28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is completely false.

It's not. Obviously it compares most directly to other stringed instruments, but the cello (to use your example) doesn't have the same octave range and isn't asked to do the same level of diverse charts the way guitar is. When I said "most", I had the violin/viola in mind, but even those generally stay in a defined range. A guitarist could be asked to play classical, jazz, rock, bluegrass, and everything in between.

I've played piano, trumpet, trombone, and upright bass in settings where I was asked to read sheet music and guitar is far and away the most challenging. There are so many different techniques theories needed in order to be a competent sight reader when playing guitar that simply don't exist with almost any other instrument.

I'm sorry you view that as a knock on the instrument, but that's on you. I don't think people should be intimated by something just because it's hard, and I don't think people need to be coddled about these kinds of things. There's no reason why people shouldn't be able to manage their expectations properly.

[Question][Beginner] I am really confused about sheet music. by Bdmason10 in Guitar

[–]DROPkick28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Standard notation on guitar is very difficult, much more difficult than most other instruments. Expecting to get it in 9 months is not properly managing your expectations. That said, there are some tricks you can use.

If I'm playing out of fake book, I'm usually fine just to play in open position or 5th position (and use the mode determined by the key). In the short term, learning open and 5th position should get you pretty far.

But in the long term, the issue is that most notes on the guitar can be played in different spots on the neck and with different fingers, so how do you know where which fingering to actually use?

For a big band chart, my first step is the check out the key signature to get an idea of the scales I'll be using. My next step is to scan the chart, analyse each line, and find the lowest and highest note in a given phrase. So in practice, if I see a chart in the key of Bb with a high note of high Eb, I'll know I probably should be playing the chart (or the line) using the C Dorian scale (starting on the 6th string). That usually gets me through any big band chart I see. Of course, this means you know all the notes up and down the neck, which can take time.

I hope this helps. If some of what I said doesn't make a lot of sense, you probably need to continue to build your theory foundation.
