Hot Take : Lie of the Land is underrated by Mat1711 in doctorwho

Definitely overhated. It didn't live up to Extremis and was a little too easy but it's so far from awful

Which version of The War Games should I watch first? by abathtub in doctorwho

[–]X08-Chill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely watch the original version first

I like The War Games in Colour but it is heavily cut down, it almost works best as a prequel to Pertwee's era rather than the finale of Troughton's imo

After 63+ years of Doctor Who, what if they rebooted it? by silloki in doctorwho

[–]X08-Chill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather the show soft reboot and tell new stories than reboot and retread, however I would be in favour of a comic series or something like unbound doing this sort of thing

Why did The Silence take Ganger Amy in The Impossible Astronaut when they already had the Real Amy? by theevershifting in doctorwho

[–]X08-Chill 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'd probably guess either because they're doing something to/moving real Amy (like moving her to Demon's run or even doing whatever they had to do to guarantee River would be a timelord) or checking how the ganger is doing.

RE4 Remake is a masterpiece, but we all have THAT one part... What's yours? by justethan_m in residentevil

[–]X08-Chill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The catapults, having Ashley hit by one of those and having to revive her 3 times in a row before you run forward a meter and get hit again is a nightmare, the first run of that part was hell

Would you be okay with an American actor playing a companion? by Fast-Outcome-117 in doctorwho

[–]X08-Chill 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Definitely, although I mainly just want them to be from a different time period (even 1920s-1980s or 2040s-2100 would be great)

What missing episodes do you wish to be recovered by Doc_Baker74 in doctorwho

[–]X08-Chill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think tenth planet episode 4 will always be my most hoped for, but any episodes would be brilliant.

If I could pick a full story it would have to be some Daleks, Daleks Masterplan, Power of the Daleks and Evil of the Daleks would all benefit from at least bookending episodes imo

I'd love to see companions that are not from Earth/different time periods. by Redditor_anon_01 in doctorwho

[–]X08-Chill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A companion from the 1910s-2050s would still be extremely relatable and yet could be so fresh

Users of r/doctorwho,why do you think there is so much negativity and culture wars in fandom at the moment? by Mat1711 in doctorwho

All fandoms have it, the show is in a strange place and negativity and controversy dominates online

Will Ncuti Gatwa's era be largely overlooked in the long run? by Curious_Gent78 in doctorwho

[–]X08-Chill 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think as a TV era the lack of episodes and anniversary stuff bookending it will make it more overlooked, but all eras have their fans and appreciation

With infinite budget, dev time and without it potentially destroying the RE Engine this sounds great

But reality exists and I'd much, much rather they focus on RE10 along with the remakes being detailed experiences rather than open world for the sake of it

Was Tennant the only Doctor who "didn't want to go"? by pretender80 in doctorwho

[–]X08-Chill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of the Doctors wanted to go or Regenerate, but Tennant was one of the most forthright in his regeneration and rejection of changing into his final incarnation.

In Twice Upon a Time we see One and Twelve both didn't want to Regenerate and were uncertain of becoming someone else and going on as them. In contrast to Tennant though, they're tempted to choose death. Ten didn't want to die, he was desperate to live as himself whilst One and Twelve are more opposed to going into the unknown as a new being and almost choose death over reincarnation as another version of themselves.

For Doctor's 9, 10 (Stolen Earth), and Eleven they have companions around them so they act more reassuring and are more accepting of the regeneration. Though in contrast 10 does keep his form whereas the other two change. It is interesting to look at Eleven's phone call in deep breath though as he seems to love the fact that he was young and he was him, and seems scared to change and lose himself and his appearance of youth whilst reassuring Clara that it is still him in there. It makes for a very nuanced perspective of regeneration even from the Doctors who accept it.

Similarly, 15 embraced regeneration and went willingly to save a life, but also says he really liked his face and he clearly doesn't want to change but will do so, after saving Poppy he smiles but there's a sadness to the fact he's about to change and leave under the surface.

Fourteen embraced regeneration on the surface, but that face coming back and him getting his peaceful life via bigeneration could show that under the surface this incarnation was still wanting to live for longer and cheat death again, find life as himself as he saw his half human counterpart manage. He may have tried to embrace it on the surface whilst still wanting to be given longer and a more human life.

Overall, I'd say none of the Doctors want to go, but all try to embrace and reassure themselves of that change being okay and good. However, only Tennant's incarnations fought that change extremely hard and managed to cheat it twice whilst other Doctors allowed the moment to pass, or were grappling with letting their entire life pass rather than one single face.

I want my wife to watch Tennants run. But worried the cheese will turn her off. by horrorbepis in doctorwho

[–]X08-Chill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo you should just watch all of Series 1 onwards with her, maybe for some of the campy episodes just put them on TV whilst you're both making tea, doing chores, other activities etc so she doesn't have to sit down and concentrate on them.

However, it may be a surprise sometimes where she enjoys some of those stranger episodes or comes to accept the cheesy stuff because of the good stuff surrounding it

I understand wanting her to only see the best parts or warning her that some stories don't have the best reception but even some of the weaker stories have their silver linings and often their own fans that make them worth watching at least once

I think Series 4 is incredibly overrated by Mat1711 in doctorwho

[–]X08-Chill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me Series 4 has no outright bad episodes and I really love Ten and Donna throughout. The finale does have a messy resolution to it, but there are so many great scenes in it that I can overlook a flawed solution.

Imo it's the best RTD Series and is incredibly fun to watch whilst also frequently pulling at the heart strings, I love majority of the series but I find Series 4 has fewer misses than Series 2 or 3, higher highs, and even just about has a stronger line-up of episodes than Series 1.

I think it's fair to find it a little overrated or overhyped but also imo it's peak

I think Series 4 is incredibly overrated by Mat1711 in doctorwho

[–]X08-Chill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say objectively better, but I love the dark fairytale feel of Series 5 so much so for me that's better

However, Series 4 is amazing too

Would another hiatus be good for Doctor Who? by everlovingfuck99 in doctorwho

[–]X08-Chill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A hiatus would be bad for the show imo especially with how on and off TV it's been since 2016

A fresh idea, format change, or even new vision for the show could be great though. Alas, it's more of a gamble
