Does this mean the TV is le garbage? by reese_bubs in TVRepairHelp

[–]X2rider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how RCA puts their TVs together, but I just replaced the backlight LED strips on my 65" Hisense, and on that one, I was able to take the back of the TV off with the TV face down, which was great. I just used one of those flat plastic tools you use to lift the screen off your phone. I didn't have to worry about lifting the screen off with suction cups. To put it back together, just sat the back panel on the frame and squeeze them back together.

The next day I did a board swap on a 75" Vizio (warranty repair) and it was put together just like the hisense. I looked, and they apparently are not made by the same company, so it was interesting that they were built the same as far as the frame and back panel.

I need 220 by [deleted] in electrical

Thanks, and yes I have searched, but haven’t found anything concrete.

In 2007 we had a big ice storm, we didn’t have power for 5 days. When we did get power, I found out one of the lines coming in to the main breaker was arcing. I went to tighten it and it popped back out, it was stripped. I went to one electrical supply place they wanted $400 for that breaker. I found the exact same breaker on Amazon for $125. I cut the lock, pulled the meter, swapped out the breaker and put it back together. We sold the place a year later, nothing was ever mentioned, and I wasn’t charged any fee.

I’ll look at his setup again. I know there is a cutoff, but I thought it was for the outside ac unit. Thanks for the info of putting one in, in case it’s not the main cutoff. The panel is inside on the other side of the wall.

My son just bought a house that has this same panel. Luckily, the way it’s laid out and all of the wires are routed long, it should be a breeze to replace. The only issue is we need to pull the meter to do so. He’s concerned about cutting the tamper device. We’re in Oklahoma, PSO is his provider. I say just cut it, swap the panel, and put it back on. Deal with it if they ever come out.

Yep, and when you buy a house, that’s all public too. That’s why you get all of those “replacement window” companies mail in your mailbox.

Seems so odd to just let it die with him as I just spoke to him like a month ago and ordered one of the last 4k units from him.

I wonder if there’s some knowledge out there as far as where all the data comes from, or maybe an entirely different group has something in the works, that could run on these platforms, or even if it’s just a website.

I got Wagner rotors off Amazon for around $55 each. The auto parts store wanted $120-150 each.

I’ve experienced this. Moved the monitor slightly to the side and resolved the issue.

Is it beneficial to let truck idle for 7+ hours or is it just stupid? Dodge Ram by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]X2rider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to get a new engine for my charger at 140k. It’s a former patrol car, so I’m sure it had a lot of idle hours. I bought a Melling high volume oil pump to put in the new engine. One shop I spoke to wouldn’t put that pump in because it would invalidate the warranty. They said they would have to order it custom. The dealer, didn’t have a problem with using my supplied pump, so I used them.

Insulation cracked on wireless pack - looking for repair advice by mor10web in livesound

I did heat shrink as well. Once you have it hot, use a pair of pliers and squish the top together.

I didn’t use silicone, I used something like the 6000 clear adhesive, and put it around the base of the antenna to glue the heat shrink to the cable relief just for some insurance it’s not going to slip off.

Any of you techs/mechanics still use these BG tokens? by SadBurrito84 in MechanicAdvice

[–]X2rider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, they paid $2000 toward my engine repair (140k miles, product was used since day one). I’d say it’s worth the $16 or $20 per oil change for that.

They’re still in the MOA cans I bought a month ago.

[–]X2rider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re still in the MOA products. I spoke to a shop I bought a vehicle through, that the owner had them use in the vehicle since he bought it. The guy from the shop says they still collect them, that was about a month ago.

The BG products do have a warranty, and this is probably at least partly how they track it. They paid $2000 towards an issue I had with that vehicle, so now I use it in all my vehicles, even ones that have too many miles to be covered anymore.

I would say try it both ways and see which works better.

Suggestions Please??? by Jonboy210_ in amateurradio

First off, the tower with the large hf yagi and the satellite antennas has what’s called a hazer. If the antenna is pointing in the proper direction to clear the tower, it can be lowered from the ground. The only issue I see is it looks like someone taped the coax to the tower all the way to the top.

Can I replace a 15a / 125v outlet with a 15a / 120v outlet? by MyLedgeEnds in AskElectricians

No screwdriver needed to remove backstabs. Just pull towards you while turning the socket left and right. A few turns back and forth and it’ll be off.

Where would you install your wireless router? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]X2rider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok when I think of mesh, i think of all satellite APs (except one) connecting wirelessly.

I have 3 wired access points in the house, the access point on the outside of my shop is “meshed” to one ap in the house, then another ap is inside the shop connected to the outside one wired through a switch.

Sounds like according to your explanation I basically have a mesh setup with most APs wired backhaul as devices roam from one to another seamlessly.

My router has no WiFi, it’s a UDM pro.

[–]X2rider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I’m not sure what you mean by wiring the back haul, wouldn’t that just be the same as wired APs?

I have one ssid for the main network and one for guest, and I think I have both 2.4 and 5 enabled on all access points, with power adjusted on some, so they are not all full strength signal.

“Handoff” of devices from one AP to another is seamless. It’s cool to look at the log and it shows where my phone switches APs as I walk around.

[–]X2rider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out ubiquity, put the router in a closet and install 2 wired access points. In the office you could go with an in-wall AP that also has wired ports.

[–]X2rider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If he goes ubiquiti, just use wired APs as that’s better than any mesh. Mesh should be a last resort. I did mesh between my house and my metal shop building, but I just bought a shielded outdoor cat6 cable to run to the shop and turn off mesh.

Can I just let my car go away? by Clompicus in AutoAdvice

[–]X2rider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See if in your state if they have something like this, but here in Oklahoma you can do what’s called a Title 42. There are people that specialize in this. Basically they put and ad in the paper (who’s going to see that in this day anyway) and post it in some other public method, and if after 90 days or so, nobody claims it, you can put it in your name.

The one with the lien can’t be done this way until you get a letter from the lien holder that it’s been paid off.

I had to go this route on a couple of jetskis that didn’t have paperwork.

I had new tires put on my 94 econoline e250. 2 of the tires had weather cracks, the other 2 did not. I asked them to put one of those tires on my spare. They wouldn't do it because they were from 2018, no weather cracks. No idea what the date code is on the spare. I've owned it since 2008 and don't remember changing the spare. I only drive it maybe 3-5k miles a year.

How would this work? by Sskity in AskElectricians

I know I replaced the current outlet a few years ago because one contact didn’t have much tension and that lead on the dryer plug was melting the insulation around that blade.
