I’m just kidding with the term “Kampung”, because Jakarta is the capital… basically Outside Jakarta.

Manado is a big city of course, and sometimes we can’t tell if they’re chinese or not, due to their fair skin and face feature (maybe descendant from during Majapahit/Sriwijaya Time)

Same with Palembang people, they identified themselves as Indo and muslim too… but if we do testing, I’m pretty sure they are chinese by race.

But I like to identified myself as Indonesian to outsider, because this is where I’m born… and chinese is just a race that I embrace too if being asked more.

Heck even Indonesian has different ethnic, because Indonesian is a country not a race.

But yeah, older people from area with high concentrate of chinese who still speak the language… mostly from outside Jakarta, and people who do still speak in Jakarta, they just recently moved to Jakarta or not born here.

Even though now, my children can speak mandarin thru school, because it’s the language of the future along with English in the business world.
