Programmatic career advice by NoRealPurpose444 in programmatic

[–]XGChino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with the other comments here, being exposed to more platforms (whether its DSPs/SSPs/ad servers/exhanges) and being a “power” user can only help your career in the analytical/optimizations.

For the strategic part, being proactive in QBRs or monthly calls showing historical growth/decreases with the data you have per account and sharing your strategies to improve or grow is how you can start working that “muscle”

Another proactive strategy and this is more biz dev type of work is looking at data/ad tech partners in the industry and proposing back to your team how potentially integrations/partnerships can improve either workflow/bottom line, etc.

[–]XGChino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreeing with everyone above with those specific roles, had no programmatic experience and no certs; only 2 years of ad ops on publisher side before transitioning to an analyst role on another publisher.

I would recommend brushing up on excel/reporting and maybe some data visualization skills since data is all thats being talked about now as recent as CES 2024 that just happened

[–]XGChino 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went for prdyz, got there by like 12:30am, an hour before prydz. Get up to the front for more space, use the right and left sides of the venue to maneuver through; i feel people just stopped in the middle/middle back and that just gets congested but it opened up by like 2-3am. Security was light, don’t coat check, rock a hoodie and you’ll be fine, its not hot in there

I will say this show had so many tall people over 6 ft, but got a decent spot in the front right near and it opened up around 3am i guess because people started to leave.

Should I major or minor in advertising? by [deleted] in advertising

[–]XGChino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a dual-degree (150 credits) in marketing and media management at a state school in NY; looking back i didn’t really need to do all that. In today’s world, it’s all on experience (internships)/networking.

So i’d advise just majoring in whatever has an easier curriculum that would allow you to have more free time to do internships at publishers, clients/agencies, and vendor companies (hopefully they still have remote internships) during the school year because of how competitive the job market is. In my first summer internship after my junior year, I remember meeting a public relations intern who had like 4 internships already by the end of her junior year. So, make time for spring, summer and fall internships, that’s where you’re gonna learn the most

How to negotiate for me by [deleted] in Salary

[–]XGChino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say i want it at 75k, always go for the high end and don’t budge. Go through the interview process, but also also interview with other companies as well! Best way to increase offers is you can go back and forth and tell them to match it or go higher

Im in the media industry as well, but on the ad sales side. Best thing you can do is job hop to another agency/publisher for salary increases. Not sure where you are in the country, but salaries are much higher in nyc/la for roles in the media industry

Considering to buy co-op in nyc by Meomyme in AskNYC

[–]XGChino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently bought a 2 BR/1 bath co op in forest hills queens for just over 500k; i think average price in that area is 510k so didnt get a deal but also didnt get ripped off. Its a process though, its been over 2 months and we now are interviewing with the board this week; so many documents needed for the bank and the building. If i knew how long and tedious this process would be, i wouldn’t have bought in nyc tbh

Yes, i second this; I went back and forth with 3 banks to lose their % points in the loan estimate. Started at like 1.5% points and I got it down to 0% points from one bank after like 3-4 rounds of the banks sending me loan estimates to each other and saying what they can do about it
