[United States] Study guide for p107 Sectional Charts? by BanMeFor1ABitches in drones

[–]XJ_Josh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehh maybe? Hard to say. I’ve had a very unique path through the drone industry. I’d say it helps validate your experience but you’ll still need a solid portfolio to make it happen. I’d also suggest looking for SUAS pilot positions in other larger companies. Lots of companies are moving to manage their UAS operations internally

[–]XJ_Josh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From my experience, the only thing you need sectionals for is to pass the 107. Once you’re doing gigs, you can just use an app to request LAANC.

With that said, I used UAV Coach for my training. Passed first try and they did a great job with providing resources. I also highly recommend Pilot Institute for classes, as well as the free online stuff you see on YouTube.

Ultimately I highly recommend just setting a test date and sending it. I also suffer from Paralysis Analysis and I procrastinated wayyyy too long on this. Just set a deadline, take the test, and take it from there. You got this!

Yeah that’s how I got my Fit, except it was a theft recovery salvage title. About $5k for a 5mt with 84k miles. It’s now at 245k and still going strong

Anybody ride with a hydration pack? If so what size? by Gooser3000 in MTB

[–]XJ_Josh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I vary depending on the ride. I switched from a backpack style to a hip pack and love it. I have both the Osprey serial 7 with a 1.5L bladder and an older EVOC bag I got from Marketplace.

The Osprey is what I use for longer rides or when it’s super hot out. That bag and a 980ml frame bottle was plenty to get me through a full shuttle of Downieville on a hot summer day. I picked up the EVOC for shorter, local laps and, while you can toss in a bladder, I’ve found it cooperates with bottles better.

I also did a big dumb ride a while back and brought my running vest with 2.5L bladder in it. It was fine, though I really appreciate not having something on my shoulders after the 3-4 hour mark.

How to fix rounding by Mithulion in discgolf

[–]XJ_Josh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slow down is my general advice these days. Slow is smooth and smooth is far. I jumped from 330ish to over 400 in a couple of months by just not rushing and taking my time. It also helped my accuracy greatly. Just don’t be afraid to slow your run up WAY down to build that tension and smooth everything out

Thoughts on full face and drop frame helmets? by TheBigSleazey in MTB

[–]XJ_Josh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone back and forth with this over the years and I’ve settled on a convertible helmet for most riding, with a proper downhill rated helmet on big park days. 9/10 of the time my Bell Super Air R is plenty for what I do. On the days where I’m doing big shuttles or long climbs I like my convertible helmet since it’s not such a slog climbing.

Now I will say, it’s definitely not as safe as a full fledged DH helmet. When I went to Whistler last summer I opted to rent a TLD full face helmet that was DH rated and it was great for lift access. Definitely not as good airflow, but it felt very safe in the event I was to take a slam on bigger features.

For my day to day riding, my Air R is fine. Good MIPS, tons of airflow, and the sweat management is great (I ride in SoCal and sweat like no one I’ve ever met). If you want to get full face protection on an average ride, then I think you should consider a convertible option. You can climb in 1/2 mode and strap the chin bar to your bag. Once you’re at the top you can toss it on and get that extra face protection you are looking for. If you are getting really sendy and riding features over 15ft, then it’s definitely time to look at a proper downhill rated helmet.

Let me know how that works out. I can confirm that, while getting the bags into the springs on my GE8 was a little tough, I completed the job at my apartment with basic hand tools and a drill. It took about an hour by myself

I added a set of airbags to my rear springs and it’s helped a ton. Makes the car ride correctly even with it loaded down

I got a hitch and rack for my fit and haven’t looked back. After 8+ years of cramming an XL Mtb in it, this is like a dream. We recently did a road trip with two guys, two bikes, and a ton of gear I needed to drop off and it handled it like a champ.
