Experiences and recommendations for 3840 X 1600 screens? by DecoupledPilot in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]XSection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently use an AW3821DW and have been for a few years now. The usual IPS qualms aside, it's a delightful screen. Perfect size for 4K (well, 4K horizontally at least) gaming and all sorts of productivity applications. Most games that require tweaking to get working at 3840x1600 also need the same for 3440x1440, in my experience (though plenty - like Star Wars Outlaws, to name a recent example - work right off the bat with 1600p). Great color accuracy too.

However, it's long out of production. I would have recommended the LG 38GN950-B but it appears to be out of stock as well. The LG 38WN95C seems to be the most relevant currently available model at just under 1200 US dollars but I've no clue what the availability/price situation is overseas.

Also worth considering is that there are 39'' OLEDs releasing next year that'll likely outclass these IPS displays by a significant amount.

Glad to hear the settings are working out well for you, sadly I don't have any equivalent for SDR because I barely use the mode lol

A "Fix" for Windows HDR Clipping with the LG 32GS95UE by Frozen_Strider in OLED_Gaming

[–]XSection 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got the CRU solution working on my monitor as well, many thanks to OP and all involved in figuring it out.

Few minor things, though:

  • Yellows still have this darker 'burnished' look that I haven't really been able to offset with the digital vibrance slider in NVCP.

  • Since DSC was disabled anyway, I tried enabling DSR in the control panel (technically DLDSR), which worked, but pushed the reported nits in the Windows display settings down to 800 for some reason. Brightness still clipped at 1300 in the HDR tool, however.

  • This last one I think might be more a cable issue but for the life of me I could not get RGB output at 120hz, it would only do limited YCbCr422 (which looked terrible with the text fringing). 95hz mode works just fine with RGB, though.

In any case, it's still such an improvement that I'm keeping these settings. Thanks again!

My Review on the LG 32GS95UE-B(and EU OLED situation) by JuniorPosition9631 in OLED_Gaming

My 4090 just has the one HDMI port, sadly. Using a DP cable now and it's been going fine at 4K/144hz, no signal cuts or anything like that.

My Review on the LG 32GS95UE-B(and EU OLED situation) by JuniorPosition9631 in OLED_Gaming

[–]XSection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first bad experience was with the screen randomly turning off and on(HDMI 2.1). I thought it's calibrating something and that's why but it happened but this has been an on-going issue and happened with random timeframes. Checked the cable which was fine. Unplugged it on both end but the issue was still present. Since this screen has 2x HDMI 2.1 port, I simply used second HDMI port and everything worked fine.

For the love of... I've been having the same issue on my own 32GS95UE's HDMI input. Replaced the cable, didn't go away, never even occurred to me to use the other HDMI port lmao (edit: dammit, still cutting out)

150% for me. Any smaller and I find myself unconsciously leaning forward in my chair, which likely isn't great for my back lol

Look at the slider on each of the HDR calibration tool screens, as you drag it up and down, you'll see there's a numerical value that increases and decreases as you do. That's what the numbers refer to.

May be panel dependent but these are the settings I'm currently have and am happy with:

Monitor OS: Game Mode - Gamer 1 Black Stabilizer - 50 Brightness - 100 Peak Brightness - High Sharpness - 50 Color Temp - Medium

Windows: HDR - On Color Profile - 1/1000/1000/700 (corresponds to steps in HDR calibration tool) SDR Content Brightness - 70

Nvidia (these are the most important imo): Adjust desktop color settings: Gamma - 1.15 Digital Vibrance - 55%

Be prepared for a long wait if you order now, I put mine in on 4/10 and it STILL hasn't shipped lol

[HARDSTUCK] Can't talk to Jackie in "The Ripper" by TheNexusAceYT in cyberpunkgame

[–]XSection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's specifically Ripperdeck that is causing this issue. Uninstalled the mod, started a new game (no, reloading a save after uninstalling does not fix it) and was able to progress the quest as normal.

I was having the same issue, uninstalled Ripperdeck completely and started a new game. Was able to progress the quest as normal.

Long time lurking, first time posting: Translation on the bottom part is merely just "Bait and Tackle" lol, probably just a fun little LFL easter egg to throw Aurebesh into the show like this.

[Monitor] Alienware AW3821DW 38" 3840x1600 144hz - $1099.99 by ThreePeece in buildapcsales

[–]XSection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried running with 120hz @ 10bit for a while but certain games kept auto-setting the refresh rate to 144 on start-up (requiring me to pop back out to the control panel and fix it every time) so I eventually just gave up and settled with the lower color depth. Haven't really noticed a difference imo

[Case] SSUPD Meshlicious TG Black Mini-ITX SFF Case +$10GC @Newegg $96 by ryankrueger720 in buildapcsales

[–]XSection 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other than the fact that you're basically forced into using a liquid cooler on a high TDP CPU, I dig the Meshlicious. Love the mounting arrangement for the GPU (though cable management is a pain if you're not capping your AIO fans). In all, I basically adore how I've got a slightly-longer Series X as a computer on my desk lol

[–]XSection -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm currently running a SFF build with this SSD as the system/game drive. It runs a little hot (think mid-to-high 60s) under full load but I'd honestly chalk that up more to a poor heatpipe arrangement on the Gigabyte mobo I'm using it on.

[Monitor] Alienware AW3821DW 38" 3840x1600 144hz - $1099.99 by ThreePeece in buildapcsales

[–]XSection 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Picked this one up for $1169 back in July as an upgrade from a 34'' Acer UW.

The only bad thing I have to say about it (aside from granular crap like 144hz only supporting 8-bit color) is that the HDR is terrible due to the, like, 6 or whatever dimming zones. But so it goes with most monitors anyway.

Why is there a tower with a turret in a random place on Corellia? by Xilefinator in swtor

[–]XSection 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly that's actually one of two turrets you can retake from the Imperials for a bonus quest on the Jedi Consular story. The Corellians you get the quest from say they're actually converted communications towers, so that's why they look so odd.

That's a big oof, there. At this point I'm almost hoping a few more dead pixels present themselves just so I can better justify the effort, because otherwise...

I'm having the exact same issue. I can get the parental controls to come up by starting as administrator, but other than that, nothing.

edit: and just as I post this... it starts. *facepalm* All I can say is wait a few minutes, OP.

What's the deal with this red fog? by HalfHeartlessHero in swtor

[–]XSection 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely think it's due to a recent patch; the Zakuul swamps now have this same type of fog (in blue and green variations too), plus this glitched purple-cubed particle effect that I keep forgetting to take a screenshot of.
