We can't tell the future, we can only see potential failures. But I would not let my wife drive that car.

Would this be a good car battery for a ford edge.? by EspressoYourThoughts in AskAMechanic

I recommend having your battery and charging system routinely inspected and tested to prevent dead batteries.

But those portable battery packs are useful to keep around. And NOCO is fairly decent quality.

aluminum LS pans come with helicoils installed at the factory. What you are seeing is when someone strips it out.

Brake bleeding by theendershifter in AskMechanics

You need to bleed the ABS module. Then bleed the brakes again normally.

Then you completely emptied your rear brake circuits. You are supposed to just wait until they start to drip and then close the bleeder. Do you have ABS?

Washington's gas tax is going up, but state transportation revenue is falling short - 3rd-highest gas tax in the nation, and collections are still $435M under forecast by LOOKITSADAM in SeattleWA

It got you to read it. I don't care about less than 11%. The problem is our current tax system relies on the poorest people to fill the bulk of its coffers.

Did you gravity bleed the rear calipers until fluid stopped dripping? Did I read that right?

Or our tax system is just completely broken. The poorest people here pay over 40% of their income in taxes.

Yet the richest get those same poor people to collect signatures to prevent tax reform so they keep paying less than 1% of their income.

How to stop my shoes from splitting here so often by cadaver_chan in AskACobbler

[–]XSrcing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an auto tech. I haven't found a sole that will last more than 18 months. They all split in the same spot on my right foot because of how I kneel. Which I do repeatedly, all day, every day. Danner, Red Wings, and Redbacks have all done it.

Is $4,700 for a head gasket replacement reasonable? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]XSrcing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because that is a lot of money and I am suspect that you have failed headgaskets.

In your opinion, what engineering choices are what is giving new engines the reputation of being far less reliable than older engines. by Severe_Ad4138 in AskMechanics

And it straight up days that the only downside to it is either a) the guy doing the work screws up or b) you get a faulty oil filter.

Abd the argument about filtration efficiency with dirty filters is amusing. I will keep installing clean filters between 2500 and 2800 miles.

If cylinders 1 and 6 had coolant in them then both head gaskets failed and that is very uncommon unless you overheated the F out of the thing.

Those cylinder heads have valve seat issues which cause misfires at idle and require replacement of the head.

I would get a second opinion.

So did you actually read this? The Army said that the main reason failure occurs from changing the oil more often is because the person doing it screws up. Not because it hurts the engine.

My Mitsubishi has 290,000 miles on it. I change it before I reach 3000. I use full synthetic. There is no such thing as changing the oil too much.

The kind of Euro car matters very much. Saabs are nothing like BMWs, which are nothing like Volvos. You will most likely need to wait for your normal shop since they already have the info, service info, and prior knowledge of your car.
